  1. Ah, so you did just presume and assume? I agree that is always quite easy. Especially if you want to leap to judgement. I have no problem with the concept they went through more than one yard or over more than one fence. Given where one ended up dead.
  2. Thanks, noticed they had lots back in stock last time I went in but I have a large bag of EP to get through before I buy more. At the rate mine get kibble that will be a while. Re irradiation, if you search Tenille you'll find specific threads on the issue. Not all imported dog foods need to be, depends on the manufacturing method. Cat foods no longer are after the serious health impacts on cats. Don't think any impacts were noted on dogs.
  3. We got through a couple of small bags before the shop I was using stopped carrying it. It was palatable to my fussy dogs and they did fine on it. I mostly feed raw, so it's hard to tell the effect of change in kibble unless it's very marked.
  4. I think I know the one you mean, it's not the Aust made one. Edited: Found the one I was thinking of. It's Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance. if that's the one you are referring to dobes, this is the Ultra formula: Chicken, Brown Rice, Lamb Meal, Oatmeal, Barley, Salmon Meal, Potatoes, Carrots, Chicken Fat (preserved with natural mixed tocopherols), Tomato Pomace, Natural Flavor, Canola Oil, Brewers Yeast, Duck, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Salmon Oil, Whole Ground Flaxseed, Choline Chloride, Taurine, Natural Mixed Tocopherols, Spinach, Parsley Flakes, Cranberries, L-Lysine, L-Carnitine, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Dried Kelp, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B-1), Manganese Proteinate, Manganous Oxide, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B-6), Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Riboflavin (Vitamin B-2), Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Folic Acid.
  5. The way I read it, the owners of the huskies dog geek describes were found through the tag on the dead dog. How was dog geek to know who the owners were when the dogs fled her yard? So how could she let the owners know what was happening?? I guess you could report it and hope the council tracked down all the husky owners in the shire - but it's a bit rough saying the fault lies with one of the victims. They jumped onto her neighbour's shed. Nothing says they were her neighbour's dogs, is that what you are assuming?
  6. Yes they are very ''deserty". I have only seen pics of the Akhalteke but I can see what you are getting at. Azawakh can sometimes I think be very full on sighthound in temperament and they are both a guard and a hunter so not a dog for most pet people. But for sighthound enthusiasts, superb.
  7. Same here. My guys will eat the RC, but went yuk no way to the Canidae Lamb formula and aren't fussed on Advance. They will also eat Eagle Pack.
  8. Aren't they gorgeous? There is at least one in Australia now.
  9. My understanding is that rabbits do not act as an intermediary host for Echinococcus. Does anyone know differently?
  10. Inhibition about going on lead anyway. The joyous public pooer is, however, a concept I had not encountered before this thread!
  11. I'm not so sure about that. One of mine will hold out as long as physically possible if going means going on lead and in public. It's a pain on those long show weekends. For both of us.
  12. I went to a large dog show in Europe a few years ago. Absolutely mind boggling the number of breeds we don't have here. Some of them were represented in significant numbers too, clearly not rare at all in their own countries.
  13. Yes - we have a winner! I knew it was too easy.
  14. :D Well that's one way to keep him amused I guess. I'd check he doesn't need to go out to the tolilet (on lead) before ignoring the whining. As I mentioned before - chews, trick training, food puzzles and interactive toys. Give him all his food in something that he has work at. And maybe a DAP infuser. They are usually used for anxiety but if he was mine I'd see if it helped, if he has to be in the crate for some days that is.
  15. I'm back, LOL. How about CimarrĂ³n Uruguayo
  16. Poor pup. Crate rest can be a challenge. Chews, interactive toys and food puzzles, and maybe some simple trick training to keep his mind amused, are all I can suggest. Maybe a DAP infuser to help keep him calm? I'm no help with the trauma recovery but hopefully some of the behaviourists on the site will come in and suggest an approach. I hope he bounces back.
  17. It's the law here that you have carry something to pick up after your dog. Maybe the instructor was an escapee from Canberrra.
  18. I'm after a clue - is the mastiff an Asian breed? If it is I have it's name waaaaay back in the mental filing cabinet
  19. Some of us do both - try and educate in public and rant occasionally on here. They aren't mutually exclusive. The rants to an understanding audience just vent some frustration in a harmless way. Plenty of people do know better by the way. Knowledge isn't all it takes to change behaviour. If only it were that easy!
  20. If you have just started tug and you are convinced it's bad aim I'd go for gloves until he gets more experienced with it, and get somone to check your technique in case something you are doing inadvertently is causing him to target the hand end. If it's deliberate maybe it's not the game you need to be playing with him at this point. Or maybe a flirt pole would be better.
  21. I think all the Canberra Clubs do a lot of manners work in beginners. Varies a bit between clubs but you get exercises like go to your mat, how to meet and greet other dogs on lead, loose lead walking, trick training, meal time manners etc. I find that can get boring - but horses for courses I guess. . Even with a good syllabus a class can only be interesting if the participants are willing to engage so it's a bit of a two way street. It's hard if half the class are thinking of it as some kind of chore. I think 60 minutes is too long, but I've been told people won't turn up for less. As for heeling in circles or straight lines for half the time - I thought that went out with the ark.
