  1. Yep, or high set ears or tight skin - these may seem cosmetic and just part of type but they actually strongly correlate to speed on the flat for my sighthound breed, and that's as important for them as a sound looking ring trot. I agree with the posters who said that soundness is part of type. A really unsound dog would be pushing it to rate with me no matter how good its finer breed points. Same for clearly poor temperament. A really unsound dog is by definition for me lacking type - unless it is clearly injury affected etc. Still shouldn't win in the ring of course.
  2. It should be a govt body that handles cruelty investigations and prosecutions and it should be taxpayer funded, I can't off-hand think of any other legislation where we let a charity handle prosecutions? As a compliance and enforcement framework, I think it's dodgy as all hell.
  3. Annual reports list the major revenue and expenditure items. I know the ACT one is on-line for anyone to see.
  4. Thanks Trish. He got the FIRST EVER 25 point breed challenge for Havanese in Australia, so I am especially proud Oh well done! how exciting!!!
  5. It really bothers me when people think animals deal the same way with permanent severe disability or pain the same way people do, or even that all non-human species have the same thresholds and view of the world. They don't. The quality of life of the particular animal is all that matters. How a human in the same situation might cope is completely irrelevant. Saying you'd euth an animal in a given situation is not the same as saying you'd do the same to a person - it's just simply not. Poor roo. Poor bizarre woman.
  6. What he said - the result is unikely to be helpful, but cheek swabs are very easy and no vet req'd when it's just a test for fun (when it's an ANKC mandatory health test pre-breeding vets are req'd for probity reasons I think)
  7. It might be - my GP told me I didn't look my age last visit My pet peeve at the moment is 'malt'. As in, this dog doesn't malt. I trip up often, and then read back what I have written and have a compulsion to go back and edit.... But I'm glad I don't live in a colder sack! That would be an awful place to be in a Canberra winter.
  8. No, no stealing allowed ever. They need to know they can eat in peace and that they need to allow others to as well. My youngest eats treats veerrry slowly and doesn't entirely trust the other 2 when she has a high value chewy treat, so if they get them when inside she will come over and eat it next to me. She knows I won't let anyone take it off her and to their credit they don't ever try, she's just finickity about it. If she doesn't really want it but doesn't want them to have it either, she will give it back to me, sometimes half eaten (yuk!).
  9. Some different rules here for the 10 year old dog compared to the 2 much younger ones. They don't seem to have a problem comprehending that.
  10. Another vote for Steve Courtney from K9 Pro. He's very good.
  11. :D Love your new signature banner Keshwar, handsome dogs
  12. Wait, wait, wait - so you're saying Cesar doesn't have magical powers? What's next - clickers don't have magical powers? Is nothing sacred any more?!? :D
  13. Oh I made that error - have now got her so she makes a barking mouth shape but only a little tiny sound. Small house so I can hear it from anywhere anyway. I've been trying to teach the response that yes I heard you and I will let you out, but just wait a minute I'm busy - didn't know it had a name, LOL, will have to go look it up now. She hasn't got that bit yet, she'll come find me in the house if I haven't come and let her out within a minute or so of the bark. :D As for the growling, I agree with others that capturing the play growl is a good way to go, it can still sound the part.
  14. Nah, that's an easy one. Some of the cases you handle would break my heart.
  15. I can do the cat food purchase and delivery in the ACT this weekend. Can you please PM me with the type of cat food preferred and contact details for the delivery - probably best I get what the cat already likes.
  16. I paid pretty much the same in 1982 for my first puppy as I did for my last two in 2006 and 2007. All the same breed, main registered, and easily titled in the show ring. I find that pretty amazing, and certainly not too expensive.
  17. Under some judges there probably isn't - fortunately (or not) I'm not experienced enough yet to know who they all are. Someone new to me with an honest rep when I ask around is enough for me to enter if the show is within a few hours drive - if they are said to be good on my breed I'll travel further. If more than just a few people tell me a judge is facey or ignorant on my group or breed - well I'll still give them a go if the show is local and just see what they do. But I won't travel for them as the gossip is too often accurate.
  18. A friend's dog used to do it to get the dog couch - run to door, bark wildly, duck back and grab the couch as the other dogs previously occupying the couch ran out to see what was happenning. Smart dogs.
  19. Nah. In that world we'd all be believing TV shows and falling for PR, instead of questioning for ourselves like intelligent beings.
  20. Yes, certainly the lucky one, LOL. Doesn't matter if I am walking an entire or desexed bitch either, the risk is the same.
