I agree with Rev Jo. When it comes to behaviour, breed matters. It isn't all that matters. But it matters.

I think you are being confused by the colour and general body shape kels. Black mask fawn is a common colour and pattern that crops up in a lot of breeds, it means nothing. The general body shape similarities are just because both Greyhounds and and Sloughis are sighthounds bred to chase down prey with speed - you can see lots of similarities across breeds designed for a somewhat common function even when they share no genetic heritage. Form follows function. But there are also a lot differences between Sloughis and Greys that an experienced eye will pick up, and people have already mentioned a couple. There is absolutely no way Slinky is a Sloughi.

Maybe ask your friendly neighbours about it, and let them know it wasn't yours. I had my vet clinic ring one day and say they had one of my dogs there, brought in as a stray. That had me very briefly in a panic until I checked all of mine were home. The vet nurse wasn't having it though, she still insisted it was mine. They knew the microchip numbers so she could have just checked that but hadn't bothered, she was so sure there couldn't be two of that colour and breed in Canberra, LOL.

No, not Sloughi -
Review Of Australian Quarrantine Importation
Diva replied to zeebie's topic in General Dog Discussion
From memory this year's budget papers mentioned that they are going to move to one station, in Melbourne, the others will be closed. -
I had a dog who survived this, although it was touch and go for the first few days after diagnosis. He was treated mainly with steroids with side effects on weight, energy level and appetite. He needed the steroids for several months. Best wishes for a good recovery.

sorry, long sinced binned as there were no takers.

Dremmel using sanding belts preferred here too. Make sure you've got enough power in the unit if you have big dogs with tough nails. But watch the nails don't overheat while grinding. One of mine has nails so hard it is near impossible for me to do them with a clipper, no matter how good the brand of clippers or how sharp they are I haven't got sufficient hand strength. The dogs don't mind the dremel either, seems more comfortable for them.

I wouldn't go to satin balls, the very high fat content would worry me for a dog that has been malnourished. It worries me full stop really, but especially then. Maybe try a probiotic supplement and give him another week, then if still not gaining at all get another vet check.

Sighthound People Is This A Sloughi?
Diva replied to mixeduppup's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
It looks quite likely to be exactly what it is described as to me. Cross 2 sighthound body-shaped breeds together and it's not suprising you get something that looks a bit like a third sighthound breed. Both Afghans and Pharoahs have been turning up in rescue situations with disturbing frequency in recent years. Not a total shock that someone with the kind of ethics that sees them end up needing rescue put them together, either as an accident or deliberately. As a sighthound nerd I find it sad. -
Kangaroo is the only meat I have ever had a dog be intolerant of. It gets 0/10 for my mob. Rabbit is good but I also find it too low in fat for everyday use, it is an occasional but regular treat these days or they drop weight. Pork, lamb and chicken they do very well on at the moment.

An Opinion Article On Dogs From Adelaide Advertiser
Diva replied to sausy.dog's topic in In The News
I agree ssm. The comment that the 'incident of the sausage' left things 'strained' for the rest of the day showed a certain lack of perspective on life I thought, LOL. -
Urgent Need For Foster Carers

I look at those photos and want to cry -
Poor dogs. I guess some farms will cross anything with anything these days, I wish this craze would stop. I have lots of old sheets etc, pm me a drop off address in Canberra and I can save you the pick up.

I looked at the photo of the 'Irish Wolfhound'. And it isn't. But sure looks worth saving, along with the rest of the poor souls.

Most mobile phones can take a photo these days, if they were a dogs NSW member that might make id quite easy - and taking photos of the beating could be good evidence too. Not saying I would - without seeing the actual incident it's impossible for me to say - but technology does have it's uses in shining a light on such situations.

In many unregulated professions people will seek to differentiate themselves and their product to attract business. Some is difference in method, some is just clever (or sometimes stoopid)marketing imo.

At least you'd know the dog had made it to 11 still fit enough to sire a litter, better than using a young dog that developed health issues later in life.

Allergy Elimination Diet -is Barf Roo Acceptable?
Diva replied to booge's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I agree with all the comments about not using compound foods or it's not an elimination diet. On top of that, BARF Roo flavour (the Dr B product) has a lot of beef in it - heart, liver, tripe etc - as well as eggs. So it's not even a single protein. Entirely unsuitable for an elimination diet even before you consider the different vegies etc. -
Make sure the breeder knows your situation and that you don't want the pushiest, most in-your-face pup. One that shows a good response to the other pups' and adults' signals and is 'middle of the road' in terms of assertiveness might be a good start. I have known a couple of Airedales living in family situations and they have been great pets.

I learnt Russian for a little while. It wasn't enough to be any use when I was over there in terms of understanding the spoken word - I could say thank you and hello and that was about it. But it did help with deciphering signs written in the Russian alphabet. I'd like to go back to it one day.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Although letting my dogs 'demand' my attention is not something I do. My dogs love eye contact with me, and clearly find a shared gaze reinforcing. They don't like strangers staring at them with a 'hard' look which is also pretty normal I think, staring at a stranger is unfriendly in both dog and human language and can be risky with a dog with a low threshold. I think that the caution about eye contact is really about dogs you don't know - dogs respond differently to trusted family.

What Is The Age Difference Between Your Dogs?
Diva replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just one year's difference between my two and it's worked well. They play together a lot even at 4 and 5 years of age as they are now and they have never laid a tooth on each other, but they are also closely bonded individually to me. I'll probably add a youngster soon-ish, I would rather add two as I like them having a playmate of similar age but number restrictions here won't allow that. -
From the ABC News website today "One of three people charged over the 2009 shooting death of Canberra truck driver Bob Knight has been found guilty of manslaughter. The 66-year-old driver was killed when a stray bullet fired during a gunfight between two rival groups in a car park hit him in the head as he waited at traffic lights at Milperra, in Sydney's west. A Sydney jury has acquitted all three of murder. But one of them, 28-year-old Mahmoud Mariam, has been found guilty of manslaughter after allegedly firing the stray bullet. One of the other accused - a teenager, who cannot be named - has been found guilty of affray and destroying property by means of fire."

Not the same owners now.
