  1. Everone in SA who has an interest in the outcome should take the time to make a submission or lobby their peak bodies to do so. Dogs SA certainly should. It is too clumsy to cut and paste on this phone, but the terms of reference, members and submission deadlines will be on the SA parliament website. Members of the committee will all be members of the house that established the committee, with representation drawn from across the parties. Once the report is made, you can still lobby govt to accept them or not, not all commiittee recommendations end up implemented.
  2. the middle one on the bottom row has to be an OES!
  3. Generally my answer would be a clear no, but it is a bit situation specifc. I have in the past had a couple of very calm and self-confident dogs with really good social skills who were very good with fearful dogs. If they seemed comfortable with doing it I would consider letting them meet a fearful dog under controlled conditons if asked, but probably not for a complete stranger. And not with my current lot, their social skills are OK but they get too excited. Whether the other dog is adopted or not is completely irrelevant, that wouldn't make any difference. I would have to believe it to be safe, useful and that my dog was feeling secure. I would question the wisdom of the other owner even asking you, she doesn't know your dog well enough or sound like she has much idea of how to help her own dog - she needs some good help.
  4. I taught a greeting behaviour incompatible with jumping to my excitable girl. She knows now has to greet me in a sit position, shaking with excitement and joy that I am home, but determinedly holding the sit.
  5. Mine get fed later too. If I give them bones in the morning as well, I give them partially frozen
  6. Is it illegal in all states of Australia? I am vaguely remembering a case that made the news a few years back, not dogs I don't think, and there was publicity that the guy couldn't actually be charged with the sexual molestation, as it wasn't illegal in that state. Normally I'd google for it but I am not game to enter those words...
  7. They probably aren't. I'm just used to being told I spend too much on my dogs (which is true, lol). I can't answer about soft crates, I use the wire ones, or just have the dog out with me if I am only showing one. I have wondered if the soft ones would allow enough air ciruclation in summer, although some say they are insulated so maybe they are better.
  8. Slightly sorry. What exactly is a polar cool mat & where is the best place to get a good quality cool mat? I use these ones, they are not cheap but I have really found them to be very good. I have ones about half the size of their mats/show pens and they move on or off as they want to, so they don't get too cold. I am sure there are other, probably cheaper, options. cool mats efs
  9. I seldom show but anything over 30 will make me think twice, depending on what time of the day my breed is likely to be on, how long the show is likely to last in total, whether there is good shade at the grounds and near the ring, and how far we have to travel to get there. Equipment - silver mesh sides for the gazebo and crates, crate fans for each dog, 'polar' cool mats for each dog, lots of cool water and a spray bottle. I have one of the silver mesh cool coats but have never used it, and one of the ones you wet which I just don't like much. I carry some electrolyte mix but have never felt the need to use it. Also lots of sunscreen, fluids and a hat for me. My Borzoi actually cope pretty well in the heat. Better than I do.

  11. I have been to your house Keshwar I reckon there is more than a BIT of this one. Although they do sometimes roll over:
  12. Depends where you live, I'm in Canberra and don't use flea products, never ever see a flea. I give the credit to very cold winters and heavy clay soils. I keep my dogs very well groomed, so I would certainly notice if they had any. I do use tick products if I take them to the coast.
  13. I'm not in rescue, but I can still relate to this one. And I have been known to absent-mindedly tell people they need to see a Vet - when I really mean a Doctor. Ooops.
  14. Deleting my post as it was responding to a comment by Arcane which has now been edited out.
  15. The 'stray dog' story is false according to ABC news. One of the vehicles had greyhounds, I think in a trailer. One dog was killed and another got loose. Someone at the scene saw the loose dog and jumped to a few conclusions. Such a tragic accident, my heart goes out to the families.
  16. Mine do something similar to very young pups and sometimes very small adult dogs, I have taken it to be a way of looking non-threatening. Although they don't ever belly crawl, they mostly lie down or bow and lay their heads along the ground sideways at puppy level (they are rather tall, LOL). Maybe with the old dog he was just showing he knew his place and wasn't a threat to worry about. Nice manners.
  17. do Malinois come in black? That is what it looks like to me
  18. I take pure bred dogs and sighthound dignity very seriously and would never take a photo like that. Mmm. Right.... probably wasn't your hat either!
  19. I am an expert at not treating my dogs like little people in fur suits, and would never dress them up just so friends could take silly photos....
  20. My apologies Lilli for the typo which I have corrected in the original post should have read ' every MONTH' if you looked at the collective data from Australain export sectors you would see just how many pedigree dogs and cats are purchased and sent to these countries, these are the registered ones there are also many who just get sold from BYB to overseas 'investors' as I said some are going to reputable breeders and kennels etc. Others however are just a commodity and are purchased, received and bred till death just for fur/meat/illegal fighting and in the greyhound instance already broken down dogs are filled with steroids and raced or go to fattening farms and sold on to recover initial outlay. Photo's of cute children with lovable dogs mean nothing unless you were there to see the pic taken anything can be photoshopped. I am not pointing the finger at any one culture or country just asian countries in general is where the high incidence of this is happening. Thank you Stan's mum for seeing my point and supporting what I was endeavouring to convey that every dog irrespective of its breed deserves a chance to have a life Registered pedigree dogs? I'd like to see a link to data that is recent as I think your information might be a bit out of date, I'm pretty sure the rise in value of the Australian dollar killed that export industry in its tracks. A few are still exported, but it tends to be to serious breed enthusiasts now and I see no issue with that. A couple of years ago it was much more common for the overseas pet market - I'm glad it's stopped. Yep
  21. Unless you step up to the plate and help him out there Aidan (blerk)
  22. Mine have no fixed heirachy either, for example one is more assertive when it comes to food and greeting friends, but the other has first dibs on the best sleeping spots and places in the car, and also greeting strangers. Neither ever challenges my authority, not that they are perfectly obedient by any stretch, but they know who sets the ground rules and has ultimate control of all the good stuff. Maybe your girl just like her bones pre-munched.
