Yes. The chiro I use most is also a very good vet, and would pick up if it was an issue needing xrays.

I have used cartrophen for a couple of elderly dogs, and it was helpful. There were also given fish oil and a joint supplement, Cosequin. They were older though, I have no experience of its effectiveness in a younger dog. Perhaps the stem cell therapy might be worth investigating.

Thanks I was avoiding wrapping as I am a klutz with bandages but it sounds like I'd better.

Thanks, no shows for her for a while so staining is no problem.

Looking For Dog Food Without...
Diva replied to Polgara's Shadow's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have found a kibble that has none of the foods you are avoiding, but the online supplier only seems to deliver to Melb. Natural Balance Super Premium 'Delicate'. Australian made, includes roo, duck and sorghum. No idea what it is like, The other one I thought of is the Ziwipeak Venison, but it is so very expensive I can't see it being viable for a big dog. -

It doesn't have to be on the bone, many people seem to feed an inordinate amount of bone, more than is needed. Beef heart provides a big chunk of meat they need to work at, tongue too. I pick up whole beef rumps when I see them cheap. Rabbit if you know any shooters or ferreters would provide plenty of edible bone. I get duck frames, and turkey some times. -

Is chicken fat a problem? Because that is a minor ingredient in many otherwise chicken free foods. Canidae Pure Sky has turkey and duck as its main ingredients, but it does have chicken fat. Just checked and chicken fat is the 6th listed ingredient, so it wouldn't be much if he doesn't have a problem with chicken and you are just avoiding it for variety's sake. -
The red head. It looks really sore and there is blood all over the house, but isn't bothering her much.

Thanks, I will try the betadine as I can spray it on.

Hamish is great. I only rec Sandra because she spans both chiro and medical which can be useful when you are not sure which it is. The way he is favouring the knee would worry me, cruciate maybe.

I see you are in Quangers, if he were mine I woukd take him to Sandra Hassett at the vet clinic in Phillip, she is both a vet and a chiropractor and is very good for this kind of issue.

Thanks, I have used cold water initially as it is still a bit bloody, but once that stops I will go with warm and salty. I have both, but wasn't sure if it mattered if she licked them. I guess Betadine dries quite quickly though. You'd really think I would know this stuff but they never seem to cut themselves. Yep Shiny, lots of blood, which I am now trying to get out of the carpet and off the lounge

Just after a bit of advice. One of my dogs has cut a small slice off the side of her outer front toe while running about this morning. I only noticed because of bloody pawprints and blood on her bed. She is not limping and has let me clean it up, it is kind of sideways along the toe and doesn't look deep. Normally I run off to the vet at the first sign of a problem but this doesn't look serious. It has bled a reasonable amount but I am wondering if that is just because of where it is. What can I do to help it heal? Just keep it clean and keep her off dirt, or is there something I can put on it? She will lick at whatever I use.

It has been posted on fb that Boss is home, located through a 'found dog' ad.

Direct relatives cannot be bred under ANKC rules - no mother/son, father/daughter, brother/sister. Half sibs are still OK, so are grandparent/grandchild (grandpuppy?lol) matings. If deleterious genes for an orthopedic condition are present in the parent, very close matings will likely concentrate them. If they are not present, then it won't

I can't help you with Gold Coast information, but the reason you couldn't comment is that the Breeders Forum is a restricted access forum. There is a pinned thread at the top of that forum which sets out the criteria for access, if you meet them just pm Troy and ask for access.

also very similar to the Japanese sheep story...there is a theme emerging here, lol.

This what Borzoi are known to do, run madly then work their way back to their place last seen, even if it takes days. I found two lost Borzoi years ago following that principle, they had been out lost for 2 weeks. I keep hoping that is what this dog will do, but she could be down a hole, injured, or picked up by someone passing through I guess. At least the weather has been relatively mild and there is a lot of water in the area. I really hope she is found, so heartbreaking for all concerned.

It depends a bit on what type of people they are too, apartments work best if they are the type who can stick to a routine come hail or shine. If they are more inclined to have a sleep-in than get up and go for a walk, they probably need to think harder about it. I have European friends who succesfully keep large, fairly energetic, dogs in apartments but they are very organised about it. Edited because I confused my thens and thans, which just won't do :)

How Much Training Is Too Much Training?
Diva replied to Staffyluv's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
If he is still excited and engaged, it is not too much. -
The only Terre Haute I know of is in Indiana, USA. It seems a terrible waste.

Another one found safe, just one still lost

More sightings, there is at least one girl close to the accident site but too scared to come in or be caught. The owners have moved back off the hwy a bit more but are not going home yet.

In fact, studies have shown that the effect of desexing on aggressive females can be to increase aggression due to the loss of the influence of the female hormones.

No, it isn't. You may well be correct about Dachies, but you are not correct about 'all breeds that are aloof with strangers'. I have a breed known for its aloofness, as adults, with strangers. The breed standard calls for aloofness.. But I find it hard to think of a breed less likely to bite an intruder just for being there, and it is a rarity for them to be difficult with a vet. Attack their owners and it is a different story, but come visit my house and they probably won't even get off their beds unless they know and like you. Sorry to go off topic, but inaccurate generalisations are hard to let slide by.
