Oh God, at 85 yrs old, that poor poor woman.

I remember seeing it defined in a formal sense for the ACT once, and it was recalling on a second command, so one chance to fluff it but had to respond by at least the second.

I always promised myself I would get a crate rack/box fabricated for the tow bar. One that would swing out of the way when I wanted to lift the back door of the wagon up, and was big enough to carry the c crates and gazebo without me having to put them on the roof or tow a trailer. I have seen them locally, but haven't seen the swinging version in Aust. Never got around to it.

I agree with those who say to actually pollice the leash laws, and substantially reduce the risk of attack on the street or from a strange dog entering from the street. I don't think increased penalties will reduce serious attacks on children on private property by resident dogs, I often see an element of negligent parenting in those attacks (flame suit on), they need to be part of the whole approach to child safety. Edited because I quoted the wrong quote.

I think the error is worth a complaint to the board that oversees vets. The negligence is a refelection of poor operating systems in that practice, not just the vet who left. Wishing Bruno all the best.

Same for the Russians in my experience, when they say dewclaw they mean rear ones, which are removed if they exist. They don't tend to call the front ones dew claws, they are the first toe/finger. Some remove, some don't. None of my very active Belgians had injuries to their front dew claws ever, not even the 2 search and rescue dogs. They all had them left on and no issues. All my first Borzoi had them removed, but my current two don't and have never had an injury. I did my own research when I bred a litter and decided on balance to leave them on too. It is a less clean line in the show ring, but I didn't find that sufficient reason to remove. I can understand both sides of the argument, I think if you had a dog with a dewclaw which was injured you would become risk adverse about them from the experience.

I had anonymous complaints some years ago. Locked the dogs up in the day, snuck home at lunch time to try to catch them barking, even had a cleaner at the time who said she never heard them. Turned out to be the dog in the house behind, but I couldn't prove it until I was away one weekend and had the dogs boarded, but got yet another note complaining about a specific day when they were miles away. If it is yours there are a number of devices designed to interrupt barking, but if you can figure out which dog and at what it might be able to be reduced through management.

Anyone Ever Just Put One Prefix On Their Application?
Diva replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I only put in one but it was a long time ago. Best just to ask, some unusual ones get rejected and some common sounding ones go through, it is a bit subjective I think. -
I own the semen I imported, it is registered in Aust under my name. The overseas owners of the sires don't need to fill out any paperwork for the litters. So yes, the I am effectively the owner of the stud for the purpose of litter registration.

Genetic Issue In <1yo Dog - Breeder Responsibility?
Diva replied to Mike Echo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Personally, for such a young dog and subject to a second vet opinion of my choice confirming it is a heritable condition that your rearing practices have not contributed to, I would refund your purchase price. But I doubt there is any legal reason for the breeder to do so. -
You need professional help. I can't tell from an internet description if the dog is being aggressive or you are misreading him, but either way you need help reading and shaping this dog. As you are in NSW I would recommend Steve Courtney at K9 Pro, but others may have other recommendations. Google for contact details, or Huski on this forum works for him I think.

What Was Your Latest New Purchase For Your Doggy?
Diva replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Nice! Looks a bit like a Helen Forrester design, I love her collars! -
After reading this & Odin-genie's comments, I wonder if its common for Goldies to have fast growing nails? Honey & I jog on footpaths often & her nails never get worn down. Maybe dee, I know Lili is jogged every night on the footpath and it keeps hers really short. I guss it would depend on the weight of the dog too? Lili is about 23 kg. Depends on foot shape too. I know my dogs with hare-shaped feet (eg longer toes) don't wear them down much and need cutting. But my Belgians with really tight cat feet seldom if ever needed cutting.

Yep, history enriches the experience. And form following function, I like knowing that the reason each point is important in my dogs, the functional reason that when put together manages to create such a balanced form.

I don't choose a pure breed for the sake of having a pure breed, I selected a breed. I want the predictable qualities specific to that breed, including their beauty. I don't have pure bred cats, the generic domestic short hair suits me as well as any breed. But that is not so for dogs, not for me. But some people feel about dogs as I do about cats. If I was to market pure breed dogs, I would market the breeds, and then the concept of quality breeding of those breeds

Get away from me you temptress.

I second uphill work for rear end muscles, just don't overdo I when you first start.

That would be a no but many people will not talk about it and sometimes it's difficult to make informed choices. I do mark in my book the known combinations that have produced one or none. Yep, making an informed choice can be difficult. Really needs the people in the breed to work together and that is far from a given.

Not sure what Hall Vet does in this context but I've always found them to be excellent and we've had some difficult stuff. There are three Canberra Vets I recommend to people: Helen Purdham at Hall Vet Ivan Gavazov at Weston Woden Animal Hospital (particularly for Sighthounds) Sandra Hassett at the Animal Medical Centre in Philip (particularly for performance dogs/structural problems) I also hear good things about Hamish at Queanbeyan but I've never been there. Same choices here. I use 2 of those, and have heard good things about the other two.

I currently leave my dogs with friends if I have to travel, but I used to use a local kennel. Usually they had a big double run. Once I had to travel for family ill health reasons at a busy time and was told they would have to share a normal size run. Not ideal but OK they were fully booked. When I checked them in, they asked if I would mind them putting a third dog in with them. I was horrified, the kennel was barely big enough for two, to put another unknown dog in with 2 closely bonded large breed dogs in a tight space at a stressful time, and then feed them in there, was incredibly fool hardy. Of course I said no, and if it had not been an emergency trip would have walked out. As it was I never went back.
