Lots of running, chasing, spinning, leaping, toy play and bitey face. Not keen on body slams.

Not if they are American Bulldogs, it is not an ANKC breed. If it were an ANKC recognised breed there could be tests required, or at least recommended, or a breed club to ask. But as it isn't we may be at a bit of a loss to advise you stvn as this is mainly a forum for ANKC registered breeds. I know when I bred I tested eyes, thyroid and did a dna test for degenerative mylopathy. But I have no idea what of those or what else might apply to your dogs. Hip dyspasia is probably a likely one. You may be up for some online research, and you could ask the breeder of your own dog too. A quick search shows dna tests available for degnerative mylopathy and neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, I haven't heard of the last one but it sounds like a particular issue for American Bulldogs, might be a good place to start.

I agree. Last week someone told me (jokingly) that my Dally was too skinny. I really jumped on the defensive before realising it was actually a joke And people have commented that I'm too skinny in the past so I am definitely over sensitive. Any comments on a dog's weight (in class) that could be taken as criticisms are always done one-on-one but I will praise their efforts in front of the class. In addition I try to say something positive, positive, negative comments on weight, positive. I think it is different too because you have a relationship with them as the instructor of the class. Very different to some random stranger.

I share your concern at fat dogs, but a stranger making a comment on my dogs would get a cold reception. Unsolicited advice is just being a busy body in my book. Leave it alone unless asked or you think it qualifies as genuine cruelty, in which case be prepared for the reaction.

Is elsewhere a reliable source , or are people possibly chasing shadows? What is written in the reg you quoted seems quite clear in terms of obligations. I can't contextualise an 'emergency' guarantee. Unless the requirement is that breeders always take back a dog they have bred whatever the circumstances and at whatever age. Which many/most will if they can of course but I have not seen it codified in a regulation anywhere and I doubt it would be legally valid to regulate for. Maybe who ever used the term emergency just used the term poorly.

Cost For Small Breed Pups And Question About Temperament?
Diva replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
The other important point here is that not all x crossed y have the same coat type by any stretch of the imagination, you can get very different coats even in one litter when you cross breed. You get a range of outcomes that can be quite different in terms of care. Temperament and size too for that matter. A first cross can be highly variable. -
Cost For Small Breed Pups And Question About Temperament?
Diva replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
It is coat texture too, as well as length. I have a large long haired breed and apart from more housework when they do the seasonal coat drop their long silky coats are so easy to maintain. If I am not showing them a quick brush once a week is all it takes and I never see a matt, and they are kept in full coat, no scissoring or clipping.. I have friends who have cross bred small dogs, no idea what mix, and if they didn't have regular grooming appointments they would not be able to stay on top of the matting, it happens so quickly. Cute dogs but so much work. Things new owners really need to know but often don't get told. -
totally breed loyal here, having found what suits me well I have no desire to change. I will have Borzoi until I decide not to have a dog. And I may also revisit Belgian Shepherds when I retire, I have had them before and still love them but they don't suit my current lifestyle like the 'zoi do.

Does he ever wear a harness?

Do You Like It When Strangers Interact With Your Dogs?
Diva replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't mind, and I am pretty good at excusing myself after a few minutes so as not to get stuck. I don't like people who want to grab at them but that is rare. -
Understood, not having a go. The sculptures are great

The sculptures are cute, thanks for posting. But it was ruined for me by the write up under 'mutt', such absurd pseudoscience hurts my eyes, lol.

You have got it pretty well covered. If people look too busy to talk they are - especially anyone actively grooming or waiting at ringside with dogs to go in the ring. After judging they often need a few minutes to calm down, so best given space then too. Breeds are judged in alphabetical order so pretty easy to look at what is being judged and figure out if it is likely to be a reasonable time to approach a given breed, although some people show multiple breeds so doesn't always work. And the show scene has lots of cliques, so best not to say how great someone else's dogs are until you know they get along, You sound sensible and polite so I am sure you will be well received, it was a good idea to tee up a few people in advance as you have. I like NSW Hound Club, they run a good show.

Very well put

Keeps Sitting Down Weak Back Legs
Diva replied to mini girl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It could just be a muscle injury, a friend's dog recently pulled a groin muscle and the main symptom was just stopping suddenly and not wanting to move. It is coming good with physio (not chiro). But poodles also seem to be a bit prone to disc problems, something spinal is quite possible. -
I have nutrigel and fish oil so can start there. Where her leg was shaved for the IV the coat has recovered well, but bits on her side seem almost as bald as when it was done. I guess I can only try a few things and see, she isn't shown anymore I just don't want her nekkid for too long
-
I wonder if it helps the speed of coat growth. I have one here shaved shoulder to stern on one side for an op, it is taking so long to cover over I might try some of this. If it stays this slow she'll be at risk of sunburn.

Whether I report depends on how dangerous I think the situation has the potential to be and how the other owners respond. The owners of the dog that broke through their front flywire door to charge across the road and attack mine, who were unable to get it back and who required the help of a passing tradie to get its mouth off my dog, and who then ran back inside and refused to talk to me, got reported. Had they had more control over the dog or had they acknowledged to me that their dog management was dangerously inept for the dog they had I probably wouldn't have. I don't leap to report for a true accident but that requires the other owners committing to preventing a repetition.

Communication Breakdown In Rspca Kills Family's Dogs
Diva replied to silentchild's topic in In The News
I seriously doubt a vet would tell the new owners to take the dog to the RSPCA to have a m/chip read. All vets have m/chip scanners. I also doubt the RSPCA confiscated the dog. It would not take weeks to sort out the ownership issue. A state dec by the new owners stating they had legitimately bought/rescued/were given the dog would be enough. There would be no need to leave the dog at the RSPCA 'for a few weeks'? Under the circumstances I seriously doubt the m/chip number had a 'stolen dog' alert attached to it so the RSPCA would have no legitimate grounds on which to confiscate the dog. None of this story rings true. No, not to me either. -
If you enjoy showing, you can still show in neuter classes after he is desexed if he is on the main register.
-
It's not a Mastiff ("English Mastiff" is as much a misnomer as "English Staffy" btw). It looks most likely to indeed be a Bullmastiff, or could even be a Boerboel. I think the photo was changed Alyosha. Blackjaq replaced whatever was there originally and put up an AKC Bullmastiff photo in its place.
-
The OP has specifically said she will do other sports with the dog if she can't show it, so where did you get the idea of getting rid of it? But she bought it to participate in the sport of showing, and she should get the registration that was promised. In the household the difference between main reg or not may be nothing, but my dogs spend a lot of time out in the world doing stuff, where depending on what we do it makes a lot of difference

I hope a whole lot of legal liability comes crashing down on the vet clinic for the harm done to the most recently attacked animals, although I doubt it will.
-
Exactly. If you have just told of your experience, I don't see why you expect any backlash. Feeling for the other owner is not incompatible with just telling the simple truth of your experience with this dog.
