Yes. You need a permit to keep a dog entire. I have never had a problem getting a permit though. Of course if you never register the dog they never know. I am sure most around here just aren't registered.

I have certainly heard of dogs choking to death on chicken necks. But then some choke on kibble too.
-
Most prey model raw feeders say edible bone should make up about 10% of the diet. Sounds like you may be feeding more than that. But if she is not showing signs of constipation, and her stools are not chalky and very hard, I don't know that I would worry on that score. Make sure she get some red meat, not just chicken.

I buy from Jordos too ssm. They deliver to the door here, and give good service. Although as I have fewer dogs to cater for I find the market butchers good too.

I think what gets forgotten is the damage to the business, reputation and emotional wellbeing of the fanchisee owner and the staff of that store. I suspected a hoax or beat up from the first word I read on this, and it is disgraceful if it is - as much as I feel for the child, and I do, the parents should be held to account for every dollar of lost business and good will. Imagine being the poor staff member accused of that.

You need serious professional help. You need a recommendation for NZ for a behaviouralist skilled in dealing with aggression.

Dog Trainer Or Behaviourist Recommendations In Or Near Canberra

He is my dog walker :) -
You need to be careful with camel, if they have been feeding on native pea species the meat can be toxic to dogs, there was an incident a few years ago where a number of dogs died.

Pork tails are a favourite here, but fatty. Doesn't bother mine they seem to need fat and they much prefer tails to trotters. Whole rabbit but they go down quickly. Whole hares when I can get then. Whole chickens, but i halve them. Big chunks of meat, beef heart and beef rump especially. Even without bones a big chunk takes a while. I tried heads but mine aren't keen on them. Lamb flap is always welcomed. When on the bone roasts are on a good special I buy a heap.

There may be an emergency lane? It would be on the right side surely and none of the photos I have seen show that side as the car was stopped in the fast/left lane.
-
Deliberately stopping in the fast lane of a high speed highway when there isn't room to get the car off the road, and not even putting your hazard lights on, is incredibly negligent. I feel a little sorry for her but much sorrier for the relatives of the poor victims.

It was in the local media, that's where the story came from.

Vets All Natural Vs Barf Vs Raw?
Diva replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I dont like to provide advice, too many self appointed gurus as it is. But I doubt she needs more variety in edible bone, esp if she has had problems with others. You can always provide more variety through your bone free meat. -
They are one and the same. In the ACT the local policing is done by the AFP, under contract to the ACT Govt. We do not have a separate force.

Vets All Natural Vs Barf Vs Raw?
Diva replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
One thing I don't like about the barf style mixes is the texture, I prefer to feed chunks of meat and meat on the bone than minced up mush. My dogs actually refuse to eat any premade mix I have offered them, at best they will eat it once then refuse next time. Occasionally if I feel inclined i will buy good quality mince and add a small amount of veges myself, but mostly the only veges they get are what they graze on themselves or occasional leftovers. I make sure they get a very wide variety of meat and offal, not just chicken, chicken , chicken, and not just boney carcasses but real meat. If I found a premade mix they would eat I might feed it once a week. What I do is very easy and straightforward, but not cheap. Fortunately cost is not much of an issue for me, but if it was I would have to put a lot more effort into finding cheap sources to feed what I currently feed and it may not be possible. Also, I am not a pure raw feeder as they have access to kibble if they want it, it probably comprises about 10% of their diet. Just doing what I have found works for us really. -
I was always an adult dog person, the puppy stage was just what you went through to raise the dog you wanted. Then I bred a litter and it completely changed my view, I 'squeeee' away with everyone else  although Borzoi puppies are clearly the cutest (I may be biased) Good luck with it!

The article says plainclothes, and the AFP have made a statement saying they take it seriously-no one is denying they were police.
-
Excellent :)

It happened recently in Borzoi. The breeder's family tried to get help from one source and was rebuffed, so surrendered them to the RSPCA. Then the broader breed community found out, raised funds, got them into foster care and placed them. But one was pts while at the RSPCA for not coping well with the loss and change. Had the other breeders been able to get them earlier that outcome may have been averted, impossible to say.

Mooch City Is Miserable: Myrtie Very Sick
Diva replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hemangiosarcoma can sometimes cause nonspecific symptoms including lack of appetite, lethargy and difficulty breathing due to fluid around the heart. I am not a vet, but you asked for suggestions. Best of luck little one. -
I agree with you entirely. The officer who has the staring role is particularly sadistic. I doubt the AFP are going to care much about the cruelty though, based on the fact that they tried to rate this as the most trivial level of complaint initially. Only pressure from the owner's lawyer has caused them to take it seriously, and I guess all the public attention will ensure that happens. What they might care more about intrinsically is that it very much looks like they are trying to get this dog to attack and video it on one of their phones, presumably so they have another charge against the owner. A manufactured charge caused by tormenting the dog. And now those who see this in the community they directly police, Canberra, have lost a little more faith in the integrity of the AFP. And will be a little less inclined to believe what the police say when there are no other witnesses. I know I will.
-
Those 2 who watched and didn't stop him need some consequences too. It makes me wonder what else they get up to when they think noone is watching. The AFP should be very embarrassed at how unprofessional its officers have been shown to be in this instance, and how lacking in good judgement.

Morons. And cruel morons at that.

Keeping My Future Pugs Young And Healthy
Diva replied to Queen Maeby's topic in General Dog Discussion
For me the 4 biggest issues are genetics, regular exercise into old age, not letting them get fat, and getting any health issues checked out properly as soon as they arise. Theoretically diet should be on that list but I have seen plenty of dogs grow old on diets I would consider pretty poor. I haven't seen many fat underexercised dogs age well though.
