  1. Normal adult kibble will be fine for her. Either mix some of the chicken one in or switch her entirely. A 9 month old doesn't need puppy food.
  2. I don't think horses fly on normal passenger flights, my recollection is seeing them on the news come off modified freight planes with grooms travelling with them , and yes a vet on board. Bit different to a dog in the cargo hold of a passenger flight.
  3. I can't see what the point of a vet on board would be, they can't get to the animals while in the air.
  4. A few questions - Which probiotics have you tried? And why are you feeding a dog pasta and couscous, is it important to you that he eat such things? Also has he ever been to a vet for this, to make sure there is no underlying problem like giardia?
  5. Maybe she is sore, you say she hasn't had a bad experience but she could have hurt herself going for it and given little sign at the time. Is she 6 months? I assume she is well over teething.
  6. The description of the episode under the video does not match the video itself. They have labelled it wrong. No idea what the dog is, closest purebreds I can think of are the Manchester Terrier or German Pinscher, but I don't think it is either.
  7. I think they make most of their return off photo sales, i would check with someone like ffire photography, she is one of the best. I doubt she does your area but she would know how it works.
  8. some vets recommend the op almost automatically, that is why you need an experienced second opinion. If your breeder was ethical and registered then they hip scored both parents and met the breed survey requirements, and while it doesn't absolutely guarantee no problems it is important to reduce the chances. So talk to them. If they were the type of breeders who don't hip score you are probably on your own, but you can ask on here for a vet recommendation.
  9. Don't do the operation without a second opinion. Very often an experienced second opinion differs quite substantially from the first general practice vet when it comes to whether these juvenile hip operations are needed or not. You need to talk to your breeder, they will have advice on reliable vets.
  10. Some breeders are using vasectomies and ovary sparing spays in this situation. So they can't be bred but have their sex hormones until full maturity. For male pups it makes sense to me, but not sure about the females as most would have a full spay later and that means two surgeries. Not against it, I just don't know. I don't think any breeder should feel judged for their decision though, the risk a puppy might up being irresponsibly bred would weigh pretty heavily in a popular breed.
  11. The offence exists only in your imagination. I related a lived experience, as did many very experienced people on here, and you dismiss it because you cannot move beyond your preconceptions. Good luck with that.
  12. Bulldust. We most certainly can live a flea free life here, it isn't even hard.
  13. Shaving your children sounds a bit harsh. Btw my dogs don't have fleas either, despite not being treated with anything, and it has nothing to do with 'human nature'. Just very cold winters, heavy clay soils and a bit of good management.
  14. Sounds to me like a breeder ad, just using 're-home' as a marketing term. Like rescues use 'adopt'. I might be wrong of course.
  15. When my large dog had a carpal arthrodesis operation I set up the spare bedroom for her. Took the bed out and put dog beds in, interactive toys, etc. Still hard on her but even the vet thought she was too big to be crated for that long.
  16. It is a Sloughi, not Azawakh. Several of the major Sloughi clubs have spoken publicly against the condition of this dog. It won best of breed at the largest Russian sighthound show, but it may have had no competition at breed level as the breed is new there and rare almost everywhere. The view from most discussing this online - and it has had huge publicity amongst sighthound groups- is that it should not look like that, it should not be allowed to be be shown like that, and it should not be awarded anything looking like that. Several of the dogs at the show, Saluki and Taigan, look emaciated in the photos. There is some common ownership and that has been raised as the issue. Young sighthounds can be naturally very hard to get weight on. It is how they are, but usually they are muscled and thin, not emaciated. Some extreme cases were present at that show according to photographs and first hand accounts.
  17. What you get from your local butcher will be bleached tripe, not green. Not smelly but not as attractive to dogs either. You need a dog supply place or abattoir for green.
  18. 4cyte has been good for my oldie
  19. When I used to walk in the dark I would stick to footpaths along major roads. Better lighting and fewer straying dogs. I avoided well vegetated places for my own safety. The dark dogs wore reflective collars. The white one doesn't need it, she is visible enough. I used a head lamp and wore light coloured clothes. Maybe leave a meaty bone with your dog when you leave, by the time it is finished he may not feel the need to howl.
  20. I have fed whole ducks cut up, and necks. I think they are a fattier meat if the skin is on, but it has been rare enough not to be an issue. i would be happy to have access to duck again. I currently use Turkey necks.
  21. I have fed them without problems.
  22. Yes. You may find some who still try and convince you to do yearly full vacs but if so just ask another vet, the majority seem on board with it around here
  23. The AVA has info on its website which you might like to read. Basically they recommend the core vaccines, ie the C3, be given every 3 years after the puppy shots, or potentially even less often, and the non core annually if required. Noting however that local environmental and dog specific variables may call for something different. I give C3 every three years and canine cough annually. If I didn't show my dogs and sometimes board them I would not give the canine cough - but kennels expect it. You may find that many on here titre test instead of routinely revaccinating.
  24. $5.50 a kilo for frames is pretty extreme! You can get whole chickens for less than that. I only buy frames occasionally but they work out about 50c each from the local chicken place, twice that from the supermarket.
