I guess it's hard for the bitches who spike and rise quite quickly once they have ovulated :) I have heard people go exactly 2 months from the day of mating, others 63 days from first mating I take all my dogs to Dr Watts at Wyndham Vet Clinic and found him brilliant and always spot on :)

Forgot to say after ovulating on Monday 3rd, we mated her on Thursday 6th September :)
-
I agree 63 days is counted from the day of ovulation, not the day of mating...they ovulate and then you usually mate 48 hours later.... My bitch ovulated on Monday 3rd September...63 days from ovulation was Monday 5th November....and bang on 8am on the 5th went into labour :) Temp drop was Sunday morning at 36.7, approx 24 hours later she waters broke :) I have often wondered why people count 63 days from first mating....when it 63 days from ovulation???

I agree with the Insurance Company, it was your choice to breed her, so as an owner/breeder you have to accept responsibility for any costs related to this. Why should any insurance company compensate something that was technically an "Elective" treatment...sure it would be nice to be reimbursed when these costs come to light :) Yes I understand that the treatment of the current issue is not "elective" and most definately requires treatment, but breeding her is :) All in all, I hope your girl is better soon :)

Leopuppy - My girl did not vomit, but went off her food big time..she went off her food around the 4.5-5 weeks mark...then started eating for a few days, then again went off her food again and was extremely fussy for the rest of the pregnancy she is usually fed Advance Active aswell with meat..and she is a food fanatic...my credit card got a work out with the amount of roast chicken I was buying, just so that I could get her to eat something! I also changed her diet to "Puppy" advance aswell...and also tried the Royal Canin "Mother and Babies" formula :)

I have a little pup that seems to be "snuffly" GL....she is the smallest in the litter too..
-
Thanks guys, have been putting her food in the box, which is encouraging her to eat something...and do it as often when they are all asleep away from her :)
-
Ava is too doting on her puppies and isn't looking after herself, very rarely leaves to eat dinner....but been told it's not uncommon for the first few days :)
-
Oh look at them!!! and the smile on her face says it all...the girls become very proud of their little ones don't they :) Oh Piper. Guess what, just realized my new puppies name is your name "Piper" meant to be I think, how uncanny :)

I use newspaper and vet bed in the Whelping box, for a bit of padding I also have washable mats underneith the vet bed. I use Lino and marine carpet, fake grass and vet bed in the pen area where the pups can go for a play when up and about. Personally I wouldn't use marine carpet in a Whelping box, it's very scratchy, much to harsh for little puppy bellies rubbing constantly across it...ouch..

Little ones doing well, will post photos tommorow :)

Thanks everyone, Ava did amazingly and I am over the moon with what she has given :) she and I did our best and that all we can do. They will he treasured and missed :) Mum and babies doing very well Thanks so much for everyone's support and advice, it always helps knowing people are a keyboard away :) Will post photos in the next couple of days :)
