My girl with this litter wouldn't spend much time away from her puppies....maybe about 10 minutes at the most, she would he always at the door, eagerly waiting to get back to her babies.... Not wanting to be with her babies for 10 hours is very unusual and not normal to me..definately worth a vet check

Have you looked at doing the pillow bag over the chair technique?

My babies go this week, they were due to go last week, but seem to have come down with a small case of gastro, so put of them leaving until all cleared. Am getting sad that they will be leaving me...but I get to run on 3 puppies, 2 males and a female. Here is a photo of both boys Avahlee Crazy Sirios "Rodja" Avahlee Crazy To Be Sirios "Tig"

It was quite hot down at the park too, I just shook my head, I am amazed people could be so ignorant
-
I think it depends on the humidity not the actual temperature, as its the humidity that is the killer If you can keep your dogs cool then thats the main things. I was very disappointed on the weekend, at the show on a Sunday night and the secretary got on the speaker and said whoever owns said vehical, please attend and remove the dog from the car as it is heat stressed. Now it was quite warm regardless that it was early evening...I would expect show people to be dog savy, but maybe I am too naieve People who show dogs, should be a lot more aware of everything dog!!

when the puppies were old enough, I had a penned off area inside the house and had my french doors open onto my back decking that was penned off, with again a smaller area, so mum could jump out into the backyard...could this be an option, the only downside is flies in the house!!!
-
I also had a smaller part of the pen, so that mum could jump in and out, but the puppies could not, allows mum time away from the puppies and also allows her to leave them safely. I also had a time when I came home and had puppies out of the penned area, two inside and mum inside, though not concerned as the puppies were about 5 weeks, so she was quite happy to only have 2 in with her!

Also I would lay tarp under the Lino just for a bit of added carpet protection :)
-
I brought Lino from Bunnings, quite cheap, could you buy some and use a tape to tape it to the floor of one of the carpeted rooms? I also know a friend who did this with great success also :) obviously you make it larger than the area of the actual pen, to make sure there is no leakage over the sides :) you could also peg it up the side of the pen as an option? Then some fans and I also leave music on for mum and pups, even the radio as I find it changes it up with different noises etc Strange about your roomate? How does he react when Zara barks at him?
-
Mum is still feeding them and will continue to do so for a few weeks, if they eat solids then that is great at it gives them that little bit extra. My theory is in the wild, mothers would bring back food to her den and pups would feed of a little of that. You don't overload them with too much variety at this age, but it's great to introduce solids early I think, makes the weaning process in a few weeks much easier transition :) Where are the photos? Or have I missed them

My puppies get raw meat and divetelec powder at about 2.5 weeks, I then add Advance soaked dry at 3 weeks...puppies I believe should also have some access to water at this time? Have you thought about using some fenugreek powder or tablets from the vet to help with the milk supply? Alternatively you could make up some wombaroo puppy milk mix above put in a ball for them to lap up :) Glad he us feeling better, whingers and males go hand in hand don't they ??

I believe Blackcurrent also does the same thing as well as being a great source of Vitamin C. The highest content one I would think would be Ribena?

Maybe the raspberries contain the benzoic acid? Either way a good Rasberry cordial is something I now put in my Litters water bowls and also take away showing :)
-
So sorry for your loss that's so unfair ..... Run free at the bridge little bubba
-
Are the rings set up in front of the Shepherd club??
-
I don't think it's the raspberry, it's the Benzoic acid in the cordials that kills bacteria, it's a preservative that's used In cordials to make them obviously last longer. The research paper was about the acid not about the berry itself :)
-
Would this be an alternative to taking bottles and bottles Of water when you travel for shows, as water that dogs are not used can course upset stomachs? Perhaps taking bottles of raserry cordial to add to water when traveling to prevent dogs getting sick from other waters

Red Cordial kills bacteria in contaminated water http://www.abc.net.au/health/talkinghealth/factbuster/stories/2010/01/21/2797762.htm

Thanks for the info Steve :) I thought it was quite interesting, especially if it helps preventing digestive issues and upset tummies and bugs etc in very young puppies. Oso - The dosage is the same as how you would make it for yourself. I read it was something to do with the acid in rasberry cordial
-
Hi everyone I recently read and article about a pig farmer who weans his piglets with red cordial. Apparently the preservative/benzoic (sp?) acid in cordials helps build the immune system and create an additional barrier for fighting off any nasty bacteria's. It was a very interesting article and the stats provided showed an almost 0% stock loss since the farmer started. Quite a few breeders now add cordial to newborn puppies water throughout their development up until 8 weeks when they leave and have had great success. Has anyone else tried this ? Apparently the dosage is the same as it would be for humans :)

Does anyone know if the dog supplies shop will be open on Sunday?
-
Thanks EF, It looks as though by your numbers I have gotten my SC Boy's numbers but not my LSC girls althought if your Junior Dog is 488, my Aus bred boy has the number 485  hmmmmm Oh well will sort if all out on Sunday I guess :) no big deal
-
The new years eve ones are confusing though.... LSC GSD's are on straight after the SC GSD's ....the numbers would suggest there are like 40 SC GSD's in and I don't think this would be the case
