  3. Longcoat is my male GSD Axel, he is 2 years old I will post a piccy of him later for you, he lives with my Ex BF
  4. Shell - Im joking never mind, I is just being silly!! How bout you share more pics of your beautiful girl
  5. No not all the time, just so puppy learns that being by themselves is ok even if they can see and hear you puppies learn quick and generally if you make everything a good experience then they cope great guns make the backyard a fun exciting area, go out and play with her in the yard and give her things to chew out therewhile you are home, that way they dont hate going outside as they will know how to amuse themselves without you Once your pup is home you will learn lots from each other, its a great experience and the bond you will share will be everlasting!!!! I cant wait till you bring her home, cant wait for loads and loads of piccies!!! I am not bias on GSD's at all
  6. Hubby and I are a bit confused about this part - He thinks flood and drought means when you ARE home with her don't smother her with too much company (flood) and then suddenly when your gone she has none (drought)? But that cant be right cos your supposed to give them attention and company when at home What I mean is, that break it up when you are at home with her while she is young, have her outside without you at times even when you are at home so she gets used to you being there but she doesnt HAVE to be with you and its ok for her to be outside even though you are home Sorry for the confusion For example and this is some cases, people who work full time will have the dog outside all day (drout) and then when at home the dog is inside all night (flood), most dogs cope with this fine, some dont and CAN suffer seperation anxiety I just like to teach the puppy that being outside while I am home is fine and that it is a good thing
  7. The Best advice I can give you when bringing her home, is to get a crate and set it up in you room for her to sleep in at night so she is near you and is not alone, bringing a puppy home away from its litter mates and mum for the first time can be very daunting for a young pup and then to be put in an isolated room by itself at night can also be upsetting for a little pup, not to mention with the crying you will get no sleep
  8. I agree I would leave nothing for her to chew on like pigs ears or raw hide as they can easily get stuck or lodged etc and the result could be horrible its more caution than anything You will learn more once she comes home and she will adapt very easily to your way of life dogs are great at fitting in as long as you include her as part of your family and include her in family stuff My advice is while you are at home dont leave her for long periods of time on her own. A lot of owners do what we call "FLOOD AND DROUT" which means they leave the dog outside for long periods of time and then the dogs is out for long periods of time, in some dogs this can cause Sepration anxiety if left alone for long periods without contact you can teach you pup from the day it comes home that being without you is fine, this can be done by using the following method: Have puppy in with you for 10 minutes Put the puppy outside for 5 minutes Bring them back in for 2 minutes Put them out for half an house Bring them in for 15 minutes What you are doing is desensativing the dog from being with you for a set amount of time and the dog learns that wether in or out, with or without you the pup/dog will eventually not worry always vary the time though, never make it the same length of time in and out etc if the pup cries at the door when you put it out or put it in a certain room of the house then yes you ignore it and dont go to the puppy until it is settled or quiet, otherwise the puppy will learn that if they cry they get attention.. Make sure that puppy has somewhere cosy they can go to, I reccomend a crate with a nice bed and blankets in there where the puppy will feel safe and secure, crate training a puppy is fantastic and most dogs will grow up to love their crates, I have 4 German Shepherds and they all love their crates and will happily run and go into them and curl up and sleep and not make a noise I have made it their own space and they feel secure in their
  9. I have to say I feed a combination of Advance and Royal Canin as personally I find they are very good brands nuritionally and my dogs do very well on it, lovely weight, good health and beautiful glossy coats Some places will deliver aswell if you cant get it in your direct area
  10. I always make a habit when mixing mince with dry that I soak the dry food in warm water and mix it up, so it makes like a gravy as well, the dogs love it I also do it as a prevetative for bloat aswell
  11. IMO - If you ae unable to get advance, I would go Royal Canin over Eukanuba but an idea would be to get some now while you still have advance so you can slowly swap the puppy over to the new stuff What type of puppy do you have?
  12. If it were my dog, I would restrict their access to the house and would NOT allow the dog on the couch If a dog cries to be let out of the crate and you are certain its not because the pup needs to toilet then no I would not go to them until they have settled down and are quiet, otherwise your pup is learning that if it makes enough noise, mum comes and gets me and I get what I want Your pup needs to learn it is a pup and it is at the bottom of the pack, you can do this by not allowing the dog access to the inside of the house whenever it likes, make the pup think that being inside is like a treat/reward, you can do this by limiting each time the pup is inside and when the pup is outside for example: Pup outside for 5 minutes Bring pup inside for 10 minutes put pup out for 2 minutes Bring pup in for 5 minutes Put pup out for 15 minutes Bring in for 2 minutes and when outside if the dog cries, scratches at the door, same rule applies as the crate, we do not go to the dog until the dog settles or until the dog is quiet , when you let the pup in, make the pup wait until you say "ok" dont let the pup barge through the door as soon as you open it you can also use the TOT training method that is pinned in the training forum, which is a great tool to use with dogs/puppies, go have a read If the puppy is getting to over the top, fiesty or in the face of the older dog, then you correct the dog and say "no, leave" that is the warning, much like you would to a child If the pup continues, I would say "No, leave" and put the dog in a time out in a toilet room or somewhere boring same rule applies, leave the pup in there for 5 minutes, however only let the pup out once the pup is quiet and once you let the dog out of time out, do not look or speak to the pup, open the door and walk away, ignoring the dog
  13. 3KM's for an 8 week old puppy Please do not take a puppy on such long walks, as stated forced walking at that age is not what a puppy needs as stated she may enjoy her walks, but puppies will instinctivly try and keep up with you, whereas free exercise a puppy can go and go and then will stop and sleep, on a walk a puppy does not have this oppotunity For a GSD puppy, I would refrain from any sort of walking on lead to parks etc, free play is the best way to go for a growing puppy I would wait until at least she is 8 days clear of her second vaccination before venturing out to public places too places like beaches and parks where dogs frequent I would avoid at this stage But thats my opinion My GSD pup is 4months old now, I take him down to the park, but he is off lead so he can go at his own pace and he will stop when he is tired

  23. A natuaral way to control fleas is by using Apple Cider Viniger which you can get from your supermarket, my dogs get a teaspoon each in their food every night...I have heard great thing about it and so far no fleas on my dog and I have stopped using flea products... My dogs had fleas a while back and I used advantage, it didnt get rid of the fleas, to get rid of the fleas, the dogs will need a flea rinse to kill the ones the dog has and then start using a preventative method.. Try the Apple Cider Viniger and see if that works...you can also put it in the dogs drinking water too
