  1. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I quite like Polly and Ollie as show potential puppies, they are both lovely!!! ;) They are all just gorgeous, goodluck in whoever you choose to keep, I am sure they could all be stars !!! :p
  2. I would also suggest perhaps bing Ruff back in on lead about 10 or so minutes after dinner, teach him that he only gets to come inside if he relaxes, I would NEVER tolerate a dog rushing back inside at all, even if it were not to have a go at the other dog, but in pure excitement, sounds like Ruff needs to learn some serious boundaries, which means you have to start learning some good techniques
  3. We used to give 3mls twice a day when I worked at the kennels :D Hope she gets rid of her nasty cough soon :D
  4. OMG! I followed your story for weeks, hoping every day when I went in that there would be some good news I am so very very sorry for your loss, but am to glad you now have closure!! May they both rest in peace and cause a stir over the bridge
  5. Becks, I know that, I was saying that rather than expecting your young pup to bring the ball back and play fetch straight away, it is important to teach your dog first how to play, so it can amuse itself while you are away The first thing most people do is throw a ball and they expect that the dog will go pick it up and bring it back unless you as you say have a very ball orientated dog, a lot of young puppies will look at the ball and wonder what you want to do with it ;) I have 2 ball obsessed dogs, from day dot they loved to chase, but I have a dog who I had to teach to play and now she loves a good game of fetch and for me to chase her cause thats the fun part

    Crate

What great advice Shell, you are learning very quickly Your girl sounds like a dream puppy!!! she is just gorgeous in your siggie!!!!
  7. I see it as a dog who you just teach to play fetch unless the dog naturally does it, doesnt teach the dog to amuse him/herself while your not there  Example when the dog is alone who is going to throw the ball, does it always have to wait till yu come home to have some fun?? I love looking out the window and seeing my dogs amusing themselves and thowing toys around, they have a ball
  8. Shell When teaching a dog to play, you are teaching them to entertain themselves while you are not there, not neccessarily to bring the ball back to you to play fetch, thats a human response to playing not a dogs Owner - Throws the ball Dog - How exciting and chases the ball, but then the ball stops and to that dog, the ball is just a boring object that is no longer moving, whats fun about that ? If you want to teach her to play, throw the ball and YOU chase it and kick it and keep chasing it, next time you throw it, she runs to it, run up and either kick the ball and continue to chase it or pick it up, throw it again and chase it... Shyla will soon learn that what is getting you to run and play is the ball, so eventually she will pick it up, when she does dont ty and get her to bring it back to you, when she picks it up, chase her, she will love the game....bring the ball back to you comes later and you weill find after a while she will instinctivly do that cause she enjoys the game and wants to keep playing and learns that the only way to do that is to bing the toy back to you
  9. OMG!!!!!! Lacey  She is a mini Kinta!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love her!!! All lovely pups LP!!
  10. So sorry for your loss Apliss May your beautiful girl RIP and run free over the bridge with all her friends
  11. They are pretty quick to adapt to change So she will be fine in no time as long as outside she has access to a nice safe place (kennel or crate) thats warm and has some toys in there she will be fine and as long as you make outside fun for her, she will amuse herself in no time
  12. Shell, dont worry, I too have always kept my GSD pups in for the first couple of days until they settle in and allow them access outside while I am at home Your dog will not have any adverse affect or grow any different doing what you are doing You are doing the right thing by leaving her by herself for a few while you are at home, this way she gets used to you being there but it doesnt neccessarily mean that she has to be with you/see you I would get her used to toilet training before I installed a doggy door Just so she doesnt learn any bad habits and would perhaps let her be locked outside once she has settled and have her used to being out there soley before allowing her free access to both areas Just my opinion
  13. You might have a future obedience champion on your hands By the way when do we get to meet this beautiful bundle of fluff I am in Vic
  14. Theres a zero tolerance policy in the GSD thead, admin will ban anyone for stuff they feel is unwarranted on the forums Someone will know the details of Kepala for you I am sure, A few people off here go
  15. Um they used to, but the member that did it got banned from DOL, so not sure anymore You could pm BilboBaggins, she is in the white shep thread and would have an idea of when the next one is on
  16. This sounds a strange statement Hopefully she will be home soon.. and you will have something fixed to the gate to stop any more escapes Maybe in the vets pwn experience they do and it may be just to put the owners mind at rest aswell at the same time I hope your little girl gets better soon, its never nice when they are ill and we dont know why
  17. Glad I could help suggest Kepala is just lovely, its really all about the dogs having a great time and it is just gogeous out there and they have everything to cater for the dogs needs I am sure Roxy will just love it out there If she is a very sociable girl with other dogs, DOL does a dog meet out there once a month so if you like you could join in Be interested to know what your friend experience was at the other boarding kennel, pm me if you like
  18. Yes his training schools were very pricey, I didnt even take my dogs to him, they just went to the local obedience school, which is good enough for me Definatly disappointing in the employee salries, I was working a full 38 hour week for $300 but i loved the job and lived out on the property
  19. We had Vern for our puppy preschool at our local vets, but only for one of our dogs. Was interesting...... Was that at the Yarravill vet clinic ??? Yes prob there, you didnt have me as the teacher I used to get great feedback
  20. No need to PM, I think the most important thing is that you go down to any boarding kennel and look for youself at the facilities and meet the people and then make a decision based on your observations and feelings on the place I am not sure who works there anymore Vern Ryans boarding kennels you can rock up anytime between the hours of 10am and 3pm and ask for an inspection and they will happily show you around the place Always important to check the facilities and people before leaving you teasured family friend anywhere IMO any kennel that wont allow you to see the facility, yards etc is not a place I would leave my dog :p I would highly suggest though Kepala Pet Resort, absolutly great facility and very very lovely people :p
  21. Is he peeing on the same spot everytime??? if the sent is still there he may just be going back to that same spot, If so I would restrict access to that area all together when he is inside and also give that area a very good clean that will remove the smell from the carpet (*hint* just because you cant smell the pee in the carpet doesnt mean he cant)
  22. Glad she is on the improve in the behaviour department well done!!! as you said she is a puppy and she will indeed learn her place and soon learn that she is not a little princess that gets everything her way If she is behaving well with what you are doing, and you are happy to have her roam a few rooms of the house I see no harm in it and wouldnt be giving her time out for periods as yet, I would only isolate her/put her in the bathroom when she has not stopped a certain behaviou after you have given her the warning . Isolating her away from you and the other dog may confuse her at this stage, but if you are meaning to seperate both dogs then thats a good idea, but dont always seperate her from you, change it up with the other dog too , keep doing what your doing and you will be back on the ight track and both you and the dog will be happy
  23. I would rest her until her leg is better, keep her quiet and keep her off the tiles, silly, clumbsy, growing puppies and tiles dont mix, they are too slippery and you have already experienced how accidents can happen I would limit her access on the tiles area unless onlead or unless you do have some matting down so she doesnt slip She may have some swelling and hence it will be a little tender for her, Monash Vet Clinic is excellent with GSD's maybe make an appointment down there for a check up to make sure all is ok, then you can stop worrying Maybe ask the breeder for some advice too, they may be able to take a look at her and can watch her move to see how she is going But dont panic, puppies are silly and accidents happen
  24. I agree with the vitamin e capsule, all you do is pearce it and rub it on the nose every day :p
  25. Shell - It is amazing hey They grow up so quick and before you notice they are big dogs, and you dont know where the puppy went :vomit:
