  3. There's these really great rope balls available now, very tough, my GSDs haven't gone through them yet. They make tug ropes too. They are in most pet supply stores now
  4. Yes its a hobby we are involved in but why should VCA get the money? what would they use it for? Would much rather my money be donated to a worthy cause if thats the case, would feel much better if entry fees left over after paying the judges went to research into breast cancer or something to do with dog rescue, rather than it be a profit on part of the VCA. Does anyone have any ideas on what they do with the money they keep if they dont need to pay for ground hire etc?
  5. I would be pretty annoyed to, given you enter a month or so prior to the show, entering 3 or more dogs in a few shows and then if they get cancelled why should Dogs Victoria get the money? seems a bit unfair, as if you imagine an average entry of 800 dogs X $10 per entry is $8,000 thats without the cost of people buying the catalouges aswell.. This also doesnt take into account the cost for a specialty show with international judges either, average cost of a specialty show entry is around $38 Edited to add, at the end of the day I make my own decsision on my dogs well being before a show
  6. We will be at the GSD Specialties both Saturday and Sunday
  7. Brooke - Maybe contact the GSD club who could possibly put you onto some knowlegable people and give you some advice
  8. Hard situation, I don't think this situation can be helped by penning the dog as it may make the matter worse and the dog sounds like it would be less than happy :-) The hardest decisions in life often are the ones that leave us the most broken hearted, but you have to make the decision that best benefits the dog :-) this dog needs to be rehomed in a knowlegable home with a confident handler and one experienced with the breed, sadly I can not see a home like that coming up anytime soon but hope it does for the dogs sake :D I admit my first thought was you can't rehome the dog it's not fair, but you have to take your emotions out of the equation and look at what's best for the dog as I said no point keeping a dog in an unhappy situation because you feel responsible, if you love your dog you naturally want the best for them :-)
  9. Gee not big numbers in Group 5, is this usually a smallish show?
  10. Fines are a small price to pay me thinks, imagine if your dogs were taken and kept by someone or injured or killed in a road accident I would find out if there is a payment plan or something
  11. Were they registered in the same shire? Or had you moved into a different shire? Unfortunately you can nit transfer registration, you must re- register your pets if you move to a new area that is controlled by a different council. So if they were if this is the case then unfortunately they would be considered unregistered.
  12. Your responsible for your dogs, if you don't like the group don't go there, don't put your dogs in that situation. You have two 5 month old pups offlead and say it's quite a challenge to get them back on lead? Do you have effective control of them? If not I would suggest getting long leads and not allowing them off until you are 100% sure you have control only because any dog being friendly or not so friendly can easily get themselves into trouble :-)
  13. I would like to know how many people would appreciate a hand in their plate whilst eating their meal??? I would more than likely tell someone to stop it, in a dogs way they do this by growling, if they continued they might push me to reacting further by hitting them, I.e dogs who feel they have no way out will feel the need to bite to protect their food. I had a food aggressive dog, a beautiful dog in every other aspect, affectionate, obedient but he didn't like people touching him while he ate, you could take the bowl away no problems, walk up and take the bone and he would simply sit and wait for it to be given back to him. I believe in any behavioural situation you are not happy with that involves aggression you should seek an appointment with a trained behaviourist who can monitor the situation and develop a plan with the owner and one who can show how to react and working to change the situation. I do not fancy people trying a bit of this and a bit of that from advice on a forum as it has the potential to confuse the dog, reinforce the behaviour and make matters worse.

  18. I saw that little cairn in the baby in show line up, it was just gorgeous
  19. Have a look in the Vic Dog Mag, there was an add for some dog runs in there, and they were a good price for the quality. I did but they cant deliver for 2 weeks
  20. Hi Guys I need to organise and purchase dog runs for this weekend, I know short notice. There was a guy at the Ballarat show last year who has single dog runs and double dog runs, does anybody have contact details for this person?
  21. Actually poodlefan, I was commenting on earlier posts, if it serves me correct you brought up specialities being circus', quite insulting to a Lot of people, as I said when people put so much effort into time training, fitness etc they and I certainly don't appreciate it being called a circus which was my point. Subtle double handling can be done in the all breeds ring, I don't see the issue your not cheating IMO, your just making the dog look it's best, I certainly wouldn't reccomend all breeds shows be run like a specialty
