So I fly my dogs quite often during the year to interstate show ls etc, in the past have paid excess baggage cost for one dog and the second at freight cost (quite pricey) or I book the second one through jets pets (not much different to freight cost) Anyway today the Ausair express attendant told me if you are a member of your canine council you can fly up to 3 large dogs at excess baggage cost having flown numerous times before no one has ever advised me on this and I have not read it on their website and have never noticed it on the Dogs Victoria website..... So thought I would pass on for those like me who didn't know!

I think Mortein are the ones in the red can If your going to flea bomb, I would suggest getting the one that does fleas and all other creepy crawlies As long as you put it in and leave your house open for at least 4 hours to circulate air, you wont be able to smell anything

DancingBC - Why would you exclude Working Group? Corgi's, Lapphunds, Aussies, Collies, GSD's etc, all make wonderful first time companions, so long as the owner is willing to put in the time, but that can be said for any breed lets not forget that Shelties require a lot more grooming than some others breeds too DP - Hopefully your brother decides on a breed that suits his lifestyle, its good to start thinking about it now and do some research Poodlefan - I believe that the dog will go to work with the OP, Because she will be working at a doggy day-care centre, which in my opinion would be nothing but a PLUS for socialisation while the owner is at work....

I dont have a credit card, I have a direct debit card, so can be used the same as. You dont have to have a credit card to be able to pay things online. That way the money is there Then there would be no excuses for late entries or entries getting lost in the mail
-
Same here! There are usually no shows that we can enter in Victoria via Ozentries and it really does suck......especially if you don't have a checkbook, money orders are expensive! Agree with you there Tollers, money orders being $5.95, plus postage....pain in the butt It sucks we dont have the luxury of ozentries
-
I would love to be able to enter online least you have a fair wack of NSW shows that do it
-
Unfortunately I am not involved in a club.... I would think it would be easier for everyone involved to get with the technology and have online entries.....the other states are so lucky, it has revlutionised there system
-
I have noticed that most states have shows listed on ozentries and members can enter online. When will Dogs Victoria be joining this bandwagon?

I fly my dogs all over for dog shows regularly throughout the year, I always fly Qantas and use AAE...I have found them to be very friendly and always catch up with the regulars there who now know my dogs and I am always asked to either provide the docket and sign the receivers section on the receipt... In Sydney at AAE I am always asked to show ID or a copy of the itinery from AAE at the other end.. Other ID is that my dog absolutly squeels when she sees me and leaves claw marks up my arm when she comes out of the crate...one AAE guy said to me once "are you sure she is yours"

I believe there is a great different between a dog "protecting" its property and a dog "attacking/biting" Regardless on if this police officer was dog savy or not, whether he was bending down to open the gate or taken by surprise, short of the story is the dog was left unrestrained in the front yard and bit an officer of the law who was doing his job...... I hope this police officer makes a full recovery and is back on the street protecting the streets soon OT I used to deliver dog meat to an older man and his son who had 2 male pit bulls, beautiful animals, well behaved, affectionate and the owners spoilt them rotten...One day the old man fell out of his wheel chair in his front yard, the neighbour went to help and the dogs took it upon themselves to protect there injured owner and would not let the neighbour near him...they did this by barking, growling and standing guard...the neighbour phoned the council and the police, the council attended and secured the dogs safely.... These dogs were protecting there owner, but as a result of their behaviour are now considered dangerous dogs and have to be secured as such and proper signs affixed to the property.. I think this is what is protective behaviour, the dogs didnt attack but instinctivly protected there injured owner The dog with the police officer attacked for no reason, there was no just cause for this
-
I cant believe the posts I read, why do some people ALWAYS blame the person that gets bitten  dogs should never be in the front yard unless under the supervision of the owner, I beleive this too is a council regulation, thus being so that people have clear access to your front door if needed....

There should be no difference, All Breeds Showing or specialty, its the same GSD Breed Standard

Homeless People And Pets - Accommodation
Pockets replied to Sonite's topic in General Dog Discussion
Housing Commission/Public Housing in Victoria is not a quick turn around at the moment, even as a priority case in most inner city areas you would possibly be looking at a 7-10 year wait for a property...so many people requiring housing.. Pets are ok in public housing in Victoria as long as it is within council guidelines Also some people dont want to be housed, as odd as it sounds, some people prefer to live on the streets, its their life and unfortunately for most the only one they have ever know. There are many places of accomodation, most option for singles are rooming houses, with shared facilities, most feel safer sleeping in the park across the street than in the rooming house. -
Have to agree with you there, my bitch shows beautifully when in season too I too have had people comment on how well there male does when there is a bitch in season there...

Black would not only make it hotter, but also harder to see if you are travelling at night...... As stated about, they are white for a reason
-
Winterpaws if you read my further posts, I said there is nothing wrong with dogs inside at night at all, I mean that it is not goingto solve the problem if the dog is a nuisance barker through the days aswell... I explained the flood and droubt effect in the post you hasve higlighted... Flood - You come home at night, bring the dog in, it stays inside with the family all night, gets used to being with you all the time whilst you are home.. Droubt - You put the dog out in the morning and go to work, the dog is left for a period of time without you Most dogs adjust fine to this, more so if they have the company of other dogs at home, some dogs wont cope with this and will feel lonely when you are gone for a long period... and resport to nuisance barking, destructive behaviour and separation anxiety.....
-
Not if the issue is possums! I Didnt see that the OP said there were possums? as she said the dogs was barking during the day? Possums are a different story From first post in thread: The reason to bring a dog inside at night isn't just focussed on curing the issue but on stopping your neighbours from shutting it up. People should be able to sleep. Yes, it says "especially" at night..so you bring the dog inside so it doesnt bark at night, but what happens during the day when your not at home? as you say people should be able to sleep and there are people that work nights... Some people go for a quick fix rather than sourcing why the dog is barking...i.e possums I know cats are big problems in some areas, as owners allow them to wander all night, which can set dogs off.. GSD's are a breed that need stimulation and exercise, perhaps taking the dog for a long run at night, tire the dog out, so its tired and sleeps....benefits all round, dog is happy and tired, owner has a content dog and neighbours have peaceful sleep I of course am not saying dont sleep the dog inside, of course by all means do :D but I would like to know what the issue is and make sure my dog is not a constant barker during the day too
