Personally if it was me and this was causing an issue, I would feed one out of view of the other in the morning and then the other out of view at night, that way they are not into this gulping thing when the both get fed at the same Time.

Agree with the above. Or it could be that the dry food needs to be removed from the diet altogether. If the dog's system struggles to properly digest, this in turn goes towards causing other problems which by end result can be a build up of toxins which the liver and/or kidney are unable to deal with as they normally would. And with this ^^. Diet goes to the support of the whole body and every little bit within it. Everything is intrinsically co-dependant. Just wish I could get some advice from people who have perhaps tried the Skin allergy 6-8 week diet ..... Everything sounds good in writing when your hoping you have found the answer .... It's also a matter of convincing my brother, I understand You go by what your vet tells you, but their are so many options out there and as far as I can see nothing has helped so far
-
Sorry I haven't had net access until now. Yes he is consulting with a specialist vet, but so far I personally have seen no changes, and the dog still continued to suffer from irritations to his skin and also ear infections etc. He is only on dry food, went from Royal Canin GSD to I think now ProPLan, I am not a huge fan of ProPLan as I found in my dogs is caused dandruff, dry and flakey skin. My reasoning for thinking its not so much a food allergy, but that the dog may not be getting adequate nutrition needed from the dry food alone. So the research showing that inadequate nutrition can cause the immune system to over react etc, sounds plausible and an avenue I would certainly persue if it were my dog. The vet he sees is a specialist vet in dermatology, so all the appropriate tests have been run etc, but as someone else mentioned, it seems that in most cases only the symptoms are treated and not the actual cause. Just because it's not a food allergy does not mean the issue is not diet related.
-
The vet has not just focused on diet, but it was something they ruled out as in "he is not allergic to any particular food"
-
As far as I can see on the vets all natural site, he believes that an over processed and inadequate diet causes the immune system to over react to external stimuli such as contact allegens etc.....his research sounds quite good
-
Yes the vets (specialist vets) have investigated the cause to no avail, have done a diet analysis and my brother has done the "diet exclusion" test. My brother can only be directed by what the vet says, no expense has been spared as the specialist vet is over an hour away on the other side of town. He is on treatment at the moment, but I just thought I would seek other options. I agree 100% the cause needs to be addressed not just the symptoms and this is why I like the sound of Vets All Natural as he goes by the same principle

My Brother has a LSC GSD who has suffered from skin allergies for many years, constant red itchy belly, red itchy paws....everything has been tried, antibiotics, topical treatments, cortison etc and nothing has so far worked. I have been looking up alternatives and saw the "Vets All Natural 6-8 week skin allergy program, has anyone had success with this? To me it seems quite simple and valid points that I agree with, too much processed foods etc Any advice would be great :)

Fake grass gets extremely hot as would any other material on the ground, only way is to prevent the sun heating up the ground, by providing adequate cover to the affected areas, of course it depends on the temperature.
-
Have you felt the temperature of the floor? when it is hot, the part the sun hits with get very hot and burn the dogs pads, my dog runs are also concreted, however they are full roofed with UV Resistent see through laserlite, so it allows the light through, but doesnt get hot so as to heat the ground., I also have the side of the pens fully walled with a UV Resistent tarp, which allows airflow and protection from the elements.

Entire Male (puppy) And Desexed Male (dog)
Pockets replied to AlanMatic's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have 2 entire males I run together with no issues (both GSD's) 1 is almost 2 years old, the other just over 12 months. I can leave all my dogs run in the backyard together, however would never leave the boys in the yard together if I was not at home. The older male respects that I will not tolerate any such behaviour in the yard. The younger one respects the older male and respect the boundaries, the older of the two will assert his dominance every now and again. In saying that I also have 3 entire bitches, so when in season I make sure the boys are seperated aswell, so there is no issues between them. -
Lovely to see such a lovely example of a GSD take out Group 5, well done to Bluemax Salt and his connections :)

I heard an interesting comment from a Cesar Milan that Seperation Anxiety is a cause the human not being pack leader. In a case where there is seperation anxiety, the dog appears to be the pack leader in the house, its humans/pack leave the house, this causes the dog to become anxious and stressed because "HIS" pack has left him, a pack doesnt leave without the pack leader. To me this makes quite a bit of sense and is an interesting concept

This dog is stunnin. I grew up with sheps and miss them greatly. I love how this dog is firm and sturdy in the front and followed by a nice grade slope and not overly Bowed but nice slight rounding. I know these aren't tech terms but as a person who isn't into gsd shows due to 'banana' backs. This looks like a perfect example of a good Gsd no show line working line statements just a perfect GSD!I truly wish they all looked like this. I would love to see her running and playin in the yard. Thank you for your lovely comments and this is exactly what we aim for in the breed, a balanced animal free of any exaggeration in any area. She is a dream on the move, effortless and powerful..

It's interesting what you all actually class as "old type" , heavy set, short legged, deep, sway back....this was not Max Von Stephanitz type. Here is a photo from 1912 at what is probably known as the first breed survey, with Captain Von Stephanitz, as you can see, the original type was a very athletic dog, who would have no trouble working sheep all day long

I only have this photo on my iPad, unfortunately not of her whole body....she was in whelp, about 6 weeks and I was taking tummy shots
-
And another of my girl winning Best of Breed at the Sydney Royal Dog Show
-
Here is an example of a balanced and and good example of a "showline" dog....I use example of my own dogs, as I do not like to post others without owners permission
-
There are poor examples in every breed As Akayhla says there are breeders throughout the world that breed for traits that are the for most part undesirable
-
Guess that's the problem when you compare different breeds and why they have different breed standards :) people that are actually interested in the breed would take time to research and educate themselves or take the time to be educated by others :) No one would agree that a dog with lose hocks is acceptable, exceptions made for young growing pups who have not reached the firmness of the joints. I show and breed Shepherds and I too cringe when I see "adults" with loose hocks or over angulated hindquarters
-
Sorry. Interesting, have you even been to the Australian GSD National? Or a shepherd specialty show ?
-
German Shepherds shouldn't be lose in the hocks when matured, they should be firm and move straight behind, whilst growing pus can be all legs and will firm as they grow. We see many in the ring with less than ideal hindquarters. Please don't tarnish the whole breed because of some animals you have seen.

Ava had her puppy via c section last Friday, sadly our little male puppy passed away on Tuesday at just 5 days old

I just ordered from the above company and have done so in the past, great price, great colours and patterns and fantastic service :)

I am the same and have just used broom sticks etc.. One thing I didnt like on that website is the pen with "grated floor", not very comfortable for puppies really
