  1. Nah they also have an EPO supplement - comes in a 500ml and 1ltre bottle of the liquid. I tried it once but never saw any response, but wondering if maybe I wasn't giving enough
  2. Even when we were on the salmon oil caps, he wouldn't take them and would suck the meat off them and spit them back down. It was a real pain in the arse. Then I started piercing them and ended up with oil being squirted all over the walls which discoloured and wouldn't come off! Don't think my boss ever worked out what it was actually from though Did you ever try the EPO from the Groomers Range?
  3. totally off topic, but awesome that you watch our Slow Dane Challenge Videos (p.s - Vote 1 Orbit)
  4. That is how you end up p!ssing off a lot of breeders. Yes, of course we all want to better the breed, but there is a right and wrong way to go about it. I personally wouldn't do that unless the breeder (lets call them Joe) had given me permission to do so. If I ever wanted another dog off 'Joe' again I doubt they would sell to me because I had done the wrong thing by them. Then beacuse I had done the wrong thing 'Joe' tells another breeder about me, then they tell another breeder, and another. Very soon I would have a very limited choice in what kennels I can buy from. Agreed. If I was a breeder, I'd be pretty annoyed to know one of the dogs I had bred and trusted with someone on the main register, was studding him out to other breeders if I hadn't approved. I'm all for breed improvement naturally, but I don't believe that putting all the quality pups on main to be bred by whoever because you'd very soon see the type that you'd put a lot of work in to create, go down the drain.
  5. That's what I don't like about limited registration which is essentially equivilent to a unpapered dog. When I first began purchasing purebreed dogs in the early 80's you had the choice of papered or unpapered...........there was no big deal other than unpapered was always cheaper. Some people would go unpapered and save some money, some would go papered to have the papers, and not all papered purchases were shown or bred. Sorry but rubbish. Limited register is nothing like having an unpapered dog. An unpapered dog is one you can't prove it's pedigree or the fact it's even a purebred. Limited Register is exactly the same as Main Register, just with showing and breeding restrictions. Simple.
  6. Same as Omega 3s: 1000mg (1g) per 5kilos of body weight. I wish it was easy to obtain in liquid form rather than capsules. Piercing 12-13 capsules every day is a real pain...
  7. Poor Orbit, its going to be like 19 degrees and showery - but guess who's having a bath Thanks for the info, Zayder. Maybe if it gets really hard, I'll see if we can get Murdoch to send it to us. But I will contact customs and see what they say...
  8. Gily sending healing vibes your way. Sounds classical of a foreign body/trauma reaction so fingers crossed its nothing serious.
  9. pfft it just adds flavour!! second the take away container or saucepan if it doesn't freak her out!
  10. Oh, right! Be very careful doing that regularly guys... Customs will catch on eventually (and confiscation of product), sniffer dogs randomly go through the depos and they randomly xray too... first times often a warning, but the fines are huge!! ;) But how do you know if a product/item is not allowed to be imported? It's not prescription medicine from what I can see? The company we got it from said they do ship internationally and couldn't really tell me why they wouldn't ship to us other than customs and prescription medicine, but if it is prescription medicine, I'm more than happy to provide them with the prescription. Oh well, hopefully our local Derms will have it soon!
  11. The breeder can upgrade the papers from Limited to Main
  12. Well, I tried ordering it first from our clinic, but they cancelled the order because they said they wouldn't ship to Aus due to customs etc. So we may have made the same order but given a US address and got them to send it to us instead
  13. So you're saying I got ripped off because I have a limited registered dog, because I had/have no interest in showing and because my breeder doesn't want anyone but her or people she's OK'd, breeding with her lines? Even though I have a wonderful dog, I got ripped off because his papers, which live in a folder rarely to be looked it, are red and not blue?
  14. Yes, I have heard of such a vaccine here...........I will check and find out what specific vaccine our vet uses. It annoys me when asking questions at the vet, like is it best to have the 16 week booster also and they treat you like an idiot :D "This is how we do it" answers doesn't mean that regime is best for the puppy Well that's obviously what they think is best if that's what they do? They're hardly going to tell you they think it's best to finish at 12 weeks, but tell you to finish at 16wks. What they do and what's best can be two different things???. I have already had a Coccidia mis-diagnosis and incorrectly treated because "that's what they do" with puppy diarreha. What they do with puppy diarreha doesn't work with Coccidia and the puppy ends up in emergency care on a drip after passing blood and dehydrating because they don't look outside the square :D Well then you obviously need to find a vet that you trust is doing the what is best.
  15. Of course it can. Use dogs with the same lines. Your boy is on limited register because you were conned out of a main registration that was rightfully yours.............unless you got him at a reduced price like the old days unpapered sale. Because you knew little about the breed and your boy was your introduction doesn't automatically make you an irresponsible owner unworthy of a main registered pup. That's a cheek in it's self.........if a breeder thinks I am not worthy of, or qualify for a main registered pup, they can belt it up their jumper........I will go elsewhere to a breeder who doesn't want their cake and eat it too You're really anti breeders aren't you? Perhaps GayleK's breeders put him on limited reg to be responsible. How do they know that GayleK wasn't going to see dollar signs herself with her main reg puppy and sell him on to someone else to breed with? If a breeder will sell a main reg puppy to anyone and everyone, particularly someone who thinks they DESERVE one, then IMO they don't care much about their lines or their breed.
  16. But if it's just a pet, why do you need a different colour on your papers? Main register isn't just a piece of paper to say that this dog is of higher quality than limited - just like limited doesn't mean its of lesser quality than main. It's still important paperwork stating that the dog is a pedigree dog. One just means you can show and breed registered pups from. I'm not sure why you keep assuming that because the dog is on limited, that its still not a show quality pup? My boss' breeder had picked out their pup as one they wanted to run on for showing. He is of show quality and had my boss and family not come along and made as good an impression on the breeder, the breeder would have kept him also, and shown him etc. But, he's in a pet home now and so therefore on the limited register. Just because it's on the limited register doesn't mean its not show quality!! If someone is new to the breed but develops a genuine interest in showing and the breed, and the breeder can see they're legitimate, I think that as long as they breeder felt the dog was high enough standard to be shown (keeping in mind too that it will be handled by a novice) then they would seriously consider upgrading to give them a chance. Or, they could go and learn from their breeder and other breeders and their second puppy can be of show quality. Breeders can and do upgrade papers, not sure why you would say 'it's all over'??
  17. oh I will put it right back then Thanks for that! Elle Mc
  18. a pup that may not be of show quality is hardly faulty, it could be as something as minor as a mis mark, a bit too much white for example. Something that has no bearing on the pups ability to live a long and normal life with it's new family. Exactly. Orbit's litter was small and varied. He isn't as well built as his brothers, but overall is still of high quality breeding, but just not as good as his brothers. Now, say the litter was even and all ended up as well as the best. If Orbit was as beautifully built as his brother, why would he need to be put on main reg, when he is coming to me - a home with no showing/breeding experience whatsoever? If he was on main, then it still wouldn't be different. I am not interested in breeding and care enough about my breed to think about it. But, say he went to another home, on the main register. This home seemed like a lovely pet home. After a few months they are told that their dog is of breeding quality, because he's on the main reg. (by some random member of the public with no idea). New owner sees dollar signs and decides to register a prefix. They breed Orbit to some Brindle bitch they got from another breeder, on the main reg also, and end up with terribly built puppies with a whole lot of weird and random colours. Woohoo - more money cause they have rare colours. Even better, because Orbit has a well known, respected prefix, the owners advertise their 'quality' puppies because they are of (prefix) lines. So then you have terrible dogs running around, also probably on the main because these newbie breeders think their puppies are awesome because they've never seen a standard in their lives, and it goes on and on and on.
  19. Main register pups are not always of good quality, as a pet owner you would like to think that you are getting a very well bred dog, doesn't happen Of course not, and the reason mains aren't always of good quality if because some breeder with no idea on what they're doing has got themselves a few dogs on the main reg which they've bred because one is male and the other is female. Even if the dogs they've obtained are of reasonable quality, unless they put it with something that will compliment it, you could end up with poorly conformed dogs.
  20. I wouldnt be surprised if his FB page was real

  22. Wow. I am of the total opposite. I'd stay clear of any breeder who puts all their puppies on main register. You only have to look at what's being bred by novice breeders in all breeds to see why it's dangerous to put everything on the main. There is variance in most litters and I think it's important to still scrutinize the litter to only pick 'the best'. I'm not sure how you can say that by putting some pups on limited, means the breeder isn't confident with their breeding. In one well planned litter, you could get a very high quality, well put together dog, but yet it's littermate may have different qualities which doesn't see it as well conformed, and thus should be placed on limited. Doesn't mean that it's not 'quality'. The others may still be of very high quality and better than many being shown, but to put them all on main with no restrictions on breeding will only see them end up in the hands of novices who will ruin the lines. To me, breeders who put restrictions on their dogs are being responsible for their breed. I was offered a puppy in my recent search on limited for $1250. On main, the puppy was $3500 my choice???. I can't see how that scenario was being responsible for the breed and the option was driven by money :D Pay the money and you can do with the dog as you wish, don't pay the money and it's restricted I don't think that's responsible either. The dog is either worthy of main or its not. If there aren't enough show homes for the puppies you have picked as the best, then I'd put them on limited and sell them as pets. Its those types of suggestions that would make me flee from that breeder and find one who isn't in it for the money. Restrictions, IMO, are there usually to protect the lines and the puppy. I don't think it's fair to say that an 'average puppy' shouldn't have restrictions. Breeders have to start somewhere and I think it's nice to see them caring enough about their puppies to have specific wants for them. Some of the restrictions mentioned by the owner are insane, and I think in general, rather than saying 'YOU MUST/NOT', it would be better for breeders to provide information on the reasons for why they do and don't do things and then let the owners make up their minds. But obviously in the case of breeds sensitive to medications, you would need to be sure they owners new NOT to give them such things.

To me, breeders who put restrictions on their dogs are being responsible for their breed. well said Stormie. I don't think every pup in a litter is worthy of putting on the mains, and breeders who are objective and selective for their breed's future and maintaining quality in the lines, would not be so quick to send out their pups with mains reg and no restrictions at all. fifi I agree, not every pup in the litter are always good examples which are called "faulty" and should be on limited register. However, a "faulty" puppy is hardly of good quality is it???. If the puppy is good quality, it should be on main automatically. Why should it be put on main if its good quality? Pet owners/newbies to the breed are just as entitled to a 'good quality' dog. A dog should only be placed on the main register if it's going to a responsible home for showing and maybe breeding down the track. If I was breeding good quality dogs, I'd want to uphold my reputation of my lines. I would only sell main reg puppies to people I knew and trusted and even then they'd probably be on terms, because I wouldn't want my lines out there being used by anyone, to breed with anything. I see it all the time in my breed. Complete novice breeders that have managed to come across a dog on main reg who has some good lines back there, and putting it to everything and anything, making some terribly conformed dogs, but using the names of the previous lines to 'cash in' and try to say their dogs are of good quality because they've got XXXX breeding.
  24. Same as sas... Orbit gets abut 20mg every 2-3 days and gets walked most days. If I know its going to be warm, or we're doing one of our 5+km Dane Walks, then I try to work it so he doesn't get pred that morning. But walking through the bush makes him really itchy so he just gets it when he gets home to keep him comfortable. Thankfully, no side effects here. Mind you he's been on it since he was 4months old so maybe I only know 'Pred Orbit'
