I'm sorry you found Percy's final moments so upsetting. I can't speak for all Vets, but all the ones I know really do try to make things as easy and stress free as possible for both the owners and their pets. I would like to maybe offer you a different point of view, from someone who works in the industry. I'm sorry that you feel that the treating Vet did nothing but put Percy on a drip. I'm sure it wasn't that the Vet didn't care.Did they offer to send Percy to one of the larger after hours hospitals for 24 hour monitoring? Were any other treatment options, such as taking bloods, discussed or offered to you? With regards to the back of the clinic, unfortunately hospitals are places that need to be kept very clean. So that means lots of stainless steel as smooth surfaces to reduce the risk of diseases spreading etc. In most cases, I can tell you that animals in hospital are not stressed, and that usually the owners are much more worried than they need to be. Hospital patients adapt to their environment very quickly, so whilst as an owner you might be worried, in most cases, our patients are very content and comfortable. Personally I think it's important that our animals can cope with being away from home, in case situations like this arise. Giving our animals the final injection is really upsetting. I can tell you quite honestly that I struggle not to tear up with every euthanasia we do, so I certainly do care very much. Whilst it may not help, I can tell you that your Percy would have felt no pain and putting the injection through the already placed drip line would have ensured this. Perhaps the reason the Vet showed no emotion when giving the injection was because they were actually upset and trying to remain composed. I'm really sorry you're so troubled by the end, but please don't think all Vets are uncaring because of this. For most, it's the hardest job in the world and I can tell you that they do fine it quite distressing.

Far out! Animal Supplies is where we get all our stock from, so I'll give them a call tomorrow. Thank you!! We have a stack full of vouchers we need to be credited for - would this mean there's a chance we won't see the money for these? -
Contact For Eagle Pack Australia
stormie replied to stormie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Very brilliant, thank you Teebs!!! -
I was just wondering whether anyone had a contact for Eagle Pack Australia or a NSW Rep? I've tried contacting Head Office (1300 8 EAGLE) but that phone number gives us an engaged tone and they haven't answered emails. I've tried contacting who I thought was our NSW Rep but the mobile number on his business card has been disconnected and we've had no response to emails to him either. Not sure how else to get in contact with them? Thanks!

Urgent Transport Needed From Armidale To Sydney
stormie replied to dogslife's topic in General Dog Discussion
Had to google that word...is this why she was so thin? Good job Dogtainers. Yeah. Unless she's fed in a completely elevated position, food just doesn't make it down and ends up being regurgitated. -

Puppy is safe and sound and sleeping off a big day. Her condition wasn't as bad as we were expecting - still really lean, but not emaciated. Unfortunately it's not great news for her and it looks like she has megaesophagus. -
Holy moly those fees are INSANE! We desexed, removed lumps, vaccinated, heartworm tested, heartworm treated, wormed and antibiotic'd a 4yo Great Dane for under $200 (rescue rates). How they can charge those prices is beyond me!!!

Yep, what Pets1 said. Novartis has always told us that the chews shouldn't be chopped as they cannot guarantee an even distribution of the active ingredient. Of course this could be a ploy to ensure people buy more of their product, but it's not something I would personally take the chance with.

I totally understand what you are saying and I was discussing this with a friend just the other night. I think what Greytmate said was spot on - that a lot of people seem to perceive the difference between dog breeds as simply appearance. I see it commonly at work - first time dog owner who have chosen something like a Vizsla or a Huski but unfortunately have no idea about their temperament or exercise requirements and think the dog will just 'learn' how to be calm and trained as it grows up. In this situation, the owner of the Mal has to be commended for going to training in the first place. And she did say she did her research so at least she probably knew what she was getting herself into :)

Experiences With Evo And Canidae Pure Elements
stormie replied to Elise+Hudson's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've just started Orbit on the Canidae Pure Land. He's been on a raw diet for almost 4 years now and any dry food he's got to during that time has given him a very angry tummy. He's allergic to fish and chicken and this is the first dry food I've ever found that doesn't have either of those, as well as being grain free. Our raw foods are becoming limited with his allergies/sensitivities and I thought this might be a good addition to help with his nutritional requirements etc. So far so good! No upset stomach at all and whilst his poo's are bigger than when he was on raw only, they're still firm. I'm really happy and will continue to use it as a supplementary food to his raw. -
Can you post some pics? If it were me, I'd change the pup over to a better quality food like Eagle Pack Large/Giant Puppy and cut out any extras. But I would also go to a vet (one that's experienced with giants) to rule out any problems with growth plates too.

Same experience for me! I ordered at 8pm one night and the food was delivered at 1pm the next day. Super impressed!

ANKC standard does allow haw. This is the relevant sentence from the standard. I would imagine the standards would be the same. The other point I have noticed is that people on this forum are saying haws = entropian. Entropion is the inversion, or the rolling inward, of all or part of the margin of an eyelid, which causes the hair-bearing part of the eyelid to come into contact with and irritate the conjunctival and corneal surfaces. Entropion can be congenital or acquired. The clinical signs of entropion in dogs vary, depending upon the cause of the condition, and can range from mild to very severe. The haws are the part around the actual eyeball. Eyelids. IN most dog breeds they are dark coloured, and white haws are a fault in some breeds, but not a terribly big one. With the Clumber, it is acceptable to have some haw showing. And yes, white haws can do red in heat or dust, which is why they are a small fault in some breeds. I do not know whether the dog has entropian or not, althought if it does, it is difficult to spot in photos or the video. Not much use speculating. I believe in they're talking about ectropian in the Clumber, rather than entropian. Ectropian is the reverse, where the lower lid sags down excessively. Also, the haws are referring to the third eyelid, which is different to the conjunctiva. And conjunctivitis means the conjunctiva are inflamed, not just red :)

The other thing to think about is that dogs with HD can be more prone to hurting themselves like this. So you might not have had any major problems up till now, but that doesn't mean it's not hip related. I'd have the xrays - at least then you'll know the state of her hips and can work on a treatment plan.

Yep this is me too. Heartworm is something I don't want to risk, so that gets given regularly all year round. I feed a completely raw diet so I also worm monthly as I don't want to take the chance with hydatids. All doses are correct as per weight. I only treat for fleas if I come across them and I haven't vaccinated since he was 16wks old. Is this an issue if human grade meat is fed? It's not something I would want to take a chance on. See the thing is, humans don't get infected from eating affected offal, so for eg if you had a piece of liver that had a cyst in it and you ate it, you wouldn't get infected. Humans act like the sheep or other animal host. But if your dog eats it, they can be infected and then humans in turn can be affected if they swallow the eggs which are passed in the dogs faeces. So I'm not sure what happens with the testing of human grade offal. I'm not sure how thoroughly they need to check each tiny amount seeing we wouldn't get affected? I know when I buy liver, it's still whole, but perhaps they have other screening methods?? No idea!!

I *think* they might work for Bayer Lol...yep agree I wonder if this would be classed as free advertising for Bayer?

Do you have to keep repeating this post? And what about hydatid tapeworms? They are completely different to the flea tapeworm.

Can Permoxin Be Used On Dogs If You Have Cats?
stormie replied to Lily123's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This. If the cat and dog interact closely together, don't use Advantix or other Permoxin based product.
