I've never seen them at a butchers, usually only at petfood shops. They can have a fair amount of meat on them, depending on the size. Lamb necks should do the job, most good butchers sell them.

I don't know that roo tails will last long with Dante and they can be expensive. I bought some Kangaroo Jerky (the meat which is cut in strips and dried) yesterday - it was quite expensive and even with my little dogs, it didn't last long. Yes. Ask the butcher to show them to you and they look like the classic cartoon bone :p with a big knob on either end and the straight bit in the middle. I'll see if I can find a picture. Roo tails are a great teeth cleaner and are not expensive at all. Knuckle bones/marrow bones can do more harm than good, many dogs break their teeth on them.

Have a look at the Raw Meaty Bones website. It's got lots of good info.I'd also really recommend you get Dr Lonsdale's book "Raw Meaty Bones Promote Health"

Innova EVO do not have a puppy formula that I'm aware of. Evo is quite 'rich' and I have heard that it can give some dogs loose/more frequent stools, just start by giving her small amounts at first and gradually add to this, that said it may not suit every dog.My boy had a day or two of softer stools before he adjusted. You will notice with EVO that her poos will be smaller than on most grain based kibble,as long as she doesn't have diarrhea I wouldn't worry too much yet. Keep an eye on her over the next few days and good luck!

Dry Dog Food- The Good, The Bad & The Ugly..

Buy a small bag of EVO to try it out first,I'd be very surprised if your dog wouldn't eat it.The place I got mine from keep a small amount in a jar so you can look at it before you purchase, maybe they'd let you take some home to try?Every dog thats I've given it to seems to really like it,my boy absolutely loves it,other than Orijen it's the only dry he really likes.Whether or not it agrees with your dog is another matter,I've heard that's it's a bit 'rich' for some dogs and can give them the runs. -
An easy and cheap way to get fish is to go to a bait shop and get frozen pilchards/sardines,I usually get 2kg bags for 8-$10.I've never met a dog or cat yet that didn't love them.

Dry Dog Food- The Good, The Bad & The Ugly..

Innova Evo is available Australia wide from Pets Paradise and is a very high quality, grain free kibble. But you have to support PP to get it Hence why we've never tried it. I know it's not a great situation, but IMHO it's the best kibble available in Aus at the moment. I think Artemis Maximal Dog is just as good and you can get it from some great pet stores. He didn't really care for Artemis,as I mainly use it for training treats it needs to be something he actually likes. He loved Orijen Adult but Canine Country don't stock it anymore. -
Kibble Thread - What Do You Feed, What Result/s?
jamie replied to poochmad's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Innova Evo-I use this for training treats and to supplement his raw diet.My dog goes absolutely nuts for this stuff.Firm poos and shiny coat. -
My dog has choked on a turkey drumstick before, normally he just throws it up and eats it again, but this time it got caught in his throut. He had what looked like a seizure, his whole body went stiff and he started foaming at the mouth.I had to pry his jaws apart and stick my hand down his throut.I pulled an absolutely HUGE chunk of turkey meat out.We were both shaking for about 10 minutes after the incident and it cost me my right thumb nail.

Mine works out to be about a dollar per day to feed my 16kg Stafford. But I could probably make that closer to 50c per day if I wasn't so picky about what I feed.

No i haven't been weighing it, the dog roll i usually measure, the rest is by estimation.. So something like the composite from Canine Country would be fine ? The "Canine Country Composite" is really good stuff, they have a large variety of 'flavors' in their barf mixes and if you buy 10 x Ikg rolls it's only $3.25/kg,which is pretty good value. They also sell a huge selection of meat chunks, mince and meaty bones.I drive an hour each way to get it for my dog and thats's saying something because I live about 3 minutes from Bigdog Petfoods. Oh by the way I was at Canine Country yesterday and they've actually changed their name to "Lotsa Pet Food"

Agree 100%.And I also feel that if your dog will eat fresh fatty fish like salmon, sardines or mackerel etc. that this would be better still. But fish oils/caps are a close second.

This is Innova Evo Large Bites next to 10c My dog really, really loves this stuff and,as far as ingredients go,it seems like a good quality food. Jamie

Yes,stuffing chicken frames is great isn't it.I fill frames with a mix of diced heart, liver and kidney before freezing,it's the only way my boy wil eat kidney. Also because frames are quite boney,it can also help to firm-up any runny poops that may be caused by the offal.Glad it's working for you!

I posted this in the other thread: I live on the Northside of Brisbane, the best places that I've found for dog food so far are: Aussie Pet Foods in Caboolture:The best place I've found for the Kangaroo tails and Kangaroo meat chunks, that make up a large part of Bosco's diet. Jack Purcell Meats at Geebung:A HUGE pet food section for a butchers shop, they carry most of the stuff that raw feeders like to give their dogs (lamb hearts, livers and kidneys, beef hearts and livers, pigs hearts, trotters and sometimes half heads, chicken necks, giblets, chicken frames and minced frames, lamb shanks, lamb flaps and lamb brisket). You can also get stuff like chicken maryland, wings, drumsticks and bone-in-thighs,turkey drumsticks etc. from the regular section for really good prices. They also sell stuff like rabbit, venison and goat for the people who can afford to feed it. Bigdog Pet Foods at Lawnton:Good range of RMB's,Barf patties/minces and natural treats, although to be honest I'm personally not as happy with the newer barf patties. Canine Country at Woodridge:I recently got some of their Barf mixes and am really impressed by them,I only live about 3 minutes drive from Bigdog Petfoods but I still think I'd rather make the 45 minute drive to Canine Country to get their Barf mixes in the future. Morgans Seafood at Scarborough:Huge range of fresh fish.I get Bosco's sardines, salmon heads and salmon frames from here.

Ilium neocort works really well on Bosco, but I've found that stuff like sudocrem or curash seem to work just as good.My vet told me that Betadine will also work on hot spots. The most important thing that I've found is getting to them early on,they can turn real bad-real fast.

I prefer to feed a small amount of liver every second day or so,rather than feeding him his weekly quota in one hit, large amounts at once (300-400g) have always ended with really runny poos the next day. My 21 month old,16kg Stafford is usually fed about 100-150g of liver 2-3 days per week. I must say I'm shocked to hear some dogs don't like liver,my dog goes nuts for it!

I don't feed veges at all,but I do feed small amounts of fruit/berries.I only do this because my dog absolutely loves them.
