  1. Thanks KOE... He's going to be a very big boy. His Dad's breeder saw him for the first time on saturday since 8 weeks old and said the same thing - His sister is so dainty compared to him! More pics - 16 weeks old 20kg
  2. Thanks for that... I thought it should be ok seeing as how it's only a couple of kilos but didn't want to risk making him sick
  3. We have to get Bakari heartworm/worming/flea treatments and we've decided on Sentinal Spectrum (& Advantix for fleas & ticks) They are in packets of 6 (monthly tabs) and there is one up to 22kg (yellow box) and then 22-45kg (white) Bakari is currently 15 weeks old and is about 18kg. Our breeder has said that he will put on about 1kg/week until 6 months. If this is right then he'll only get one maybe 2 doses out of the first pack but would the second one be too much while he's still a few kilos under the weight guideline or isn't it that much difference? Thanks!
  4. I think the difference was that pet products don't charge shipping. Only works out 0.50c cheaper for me to get it from priceless pets because I had to get Advantix which was about $6 cheaper...
  5. Our breeder suggested we get Bakari scored at 12 months, but I haven't heard of doing another to compare... I thought once it was done and scored then you knew whether it could become a further issue/whether they would be good enough to breed from? I think there is 2 different ways of scoring Wyburn & I can't think of the other one.... Total novice here so no idea of the difference/who's better etc!
  6. Spanner, I wouldn't see it to be a problem - would be good for the dog to have a place of his own to go to get away from the kids if he needed a break... If you make it their bed then they learn to love it
  7. Hey Emzy, They are great... I just have to work out what to put in mine that the dog can't get out in a matter of minutes but it isn't too hard - he gets bored quickly but loves it for a while Cheapest place is Big W or Kmart - I think they are under $20 (that was for a large puppy one) Haven't tried out the different shapes though...
  8. Pics from yesterday after his bath then the breeder stacking him at the show last night... 1st show was a disaster - he played up really bad - including a rough and tumble play fight with his sister while walking out of the ring for baby puppy challenge!
  9. This is Bakari's crate - I took it down ready for our first show tonight and he's been wandering around all day looking for it - lying down elsewhere with a big sigh... Definately not cruel!
  10. Thanks guys... He's my little man, love him to pieces... First show this weekend and OH is going to start taking him to obedience - he was too young to sign up this intake so hopefully the next one! He'll end up nearly 50kg so I need to make sure I can control him without a battle of muscles!
  11. Last week 12 weeks old 15kg Next weekend I should get some photos of us at our first show!
  12. The whole 12 weeks His name means "one who will succeed" in swahili which I liked because he's going to be my first show dog! Weeks 1-3 - he's the dark blue colour coded pup
  13. We had Bakari at preschool from 8 weeks. Probably a good idea to start putting cody on a lead so it's not too much of a shock as you'll need it on for classes... Worming - the breeder gave us a drontal chewable tablet for the 8 week, we then had to do it at 10 & 12 weeks... Then I think it's monthly from now on... We didn't take Bakari for his first walk until after his 2nd shot... we had it done early at 10 weeks as we are going to be showing him at 13 weeks (next weekend) and he needed it done and given the rest period before then... Hope that helps! He's gorgeous by the way!
  14. This is an absolutely mind blowing! So please correct any of this if it's wrong - just from what I've found from the online pet sites.... Advocate (monthly spot on) - Heart, Intestinal, Fleas Revolution (monlth spot on) - Heart, Fleas, Mites Heartguard (monthly tablet) - Heart, hook & round worms only Sentinel (monthly tablet) - Heart, Intestinal, Flea larvae Interceptor (monthly tablet)- Heart, Intestinal Advantix (monthly spot on) - Fleas & Ticks Advantage (monthly spot) - Fleas Frontline Plus (montly spot)- Fleas & Ticks Drontal (monthly tablet) - Intestinal worms only So to be covered by everything except mites I could use Sentinal + Advantix or to cover everything Revolution, Advantix & Drontal? Also as my pup is still growing (currently 12 weeks old & 15kg) and my Breeder said to expect about 1kg/week until 6 months he may grow out of the size guidelines of some of the tablets due to the number/pack. Could I give him 1 1/2 of those or would it just be better to grab the next size up before then?
  15. We got out 8 week old ridgeback and crated him - but he would cry when he needed to go... (and I made the whole crate bed... no paper option) at 8 weeks he would go about 10pm, midnight then 3am then again at about 6 when we got up... we've now put the open crate in the laundry so he can go out when needed as once I was back at work I couldn't handle the up every 3 hours every night... we'll wait till he's a bit older and can hold it again before moving the crate back into the lounge.... when we are up we leave the door open as if he can't get out straight away when he needs to go he'll go on the tiles.. can't quite hold on long enough to sit at the door yet!
  16. I think it was $52 for the consult (because it's an after hours appointment slightly higher rate) + he's due for another worming tablet + any ointment that he'll get... figure it might end up close to $100 Thanks daccies - better to be safe than sorry!
  17. Thanks PW. We've got him booked in at 5.30pm today but if it was something simple thought it might save us the $100!
  18. Yesterday Bakari started getting a sleep like substance in the corner of his eyes but it's a greenish colour... Kind of looks like conjunctivitis... Russ said that when he got up this morning his eyes looked a bit puffy. Everything else is fine, he's acting normal, even to the point that he was trying to eat the tissue I was wiping his eyes with. Just wondering if this is worth a trip to the vet or if there is something else I can do?
  19. May he swim and run to his hearts content on the other side... Condolences to you and the owners...
