Florinef - What's The Most Economical Way To Buy It?
tpl replied to woody2shoes's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just to let you know that I am a taxpayer myself and am against "rorting" the system. All the Pharmacists I spoke to yesterday advised me that this is all legal and that the cost of the Florinef is not the PBS price. Unless my dog is on my Medicare card (which unfortunately she is not) then I can not get the PBS price. The PBS price for 200 tablets is $33.30. I have to pay the non PBS price of $46.50. http://www.pbs.gov.au/medicine/item/1433K. Please advise if I am mistaken as I in no way want other taxpayers to pay for my dog. I am just looking at cheaper ways to treat my dog. When I came home the other week and told my husband that our dogs medication had more than doubled in price my husband started talking about other options for our dog ie PTS. Given that this is not the only medication our dog is on and that she also has to have regular vet visits for blood tests etc, it all adds up over the year and if I can save money on her Florinef tablets then it all helps. -
Florinef - What's The Most Economical Way To Buy It?

We don't get charged a dispensing fee by our wonderful vet and we buy about 8 bottles at a time. Just rang my local pharmacy who said they can give it to me for $45 for 200 tablets! Rang the vet and they said they will write a script for me. ETA - wonder if the same applies for Thyroid medication? Our dog is on that too. -

Wow! I didn't realise you could get the dogs Florinef from your pharmacist. I will be definately trying this now. Thanks My dog goes through 100 x 0.1mg tablets in 2 weeks and they have just recently put the price up for the Florinef more than double! It used to cost me $20 from our vet, now it costs $44! -
I just started my dog on it and she loves it. So far so good. I bought it online from here. Only the lamb is available but there are other varieties in NZ. I hope the other varieties come here as my dog would love the venison. It does stink though!

Since the Orijen issue, I have changed to the Selects Turkey & Barley. Kibble is not a major part of the dogs diet but so far she enjoys it. It is hard to source so I just buy it online. Good luck with the change.

I contacted the importer of Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance and this is not irradiated either. Good idea for a thread

Whole Dog Journal don't accept any advertising so it enables them to be unbiased and independent. This is why they have to charge their subscribers. -

I think the list posted here may be a bit outdated or a combination of a few years worth. Whole Dog Journal do a review every year and the latest one was done in Feb 2008. Nutro Ultra is on this years list - we don't get that here. The March issue just out also lists the best grain free diets - Orijen and Artemis are on this list. To understand the criteria you would have to subscribe as I am worried about copyright... It's a great publication though for anyone who is interested. They also do a review of the best canned foods which will be later in the year. -
Hi Nytewynd, I am so sorry to hear that your dog is not well. Are they doing an ATCH test to determine addison's? My dog was diagnosed last year and she has her good days and bad days. Needs daily medication. A good place to start researching is the addisondogs.com website. It is manageable - just need to monitor them a bit more closely and try to avoid too much stress. Let us know what the vet says and I hope your dog starts improving. Thinking of you as it is a very stressful time.

What about ZiwiPeak? Not exactly a traditional "kibble", more of a semi-dried product but it is grain free.

ryally - it seems to be working for me now. try it again as they may have had system problems.

Hi Jules We got one of those pig in mud doors that are a separate piece that just sit in the door frame. Great for renters as it doesn't involve any installation and you just take it with you when you move. Best investment ever! We used to get up to take our pup outside to go to the toilet when she told us she needed to go but now I get a full nights sleep and she goes out the doggy door without waking us. Now my problem is getting her to go all the way outside and go to the toilet on the grass. She has decided with all this rain and cold that she will just go outside under the pergola and go on the tiles - which stinks! Good luck!

I remember seeing these too and thought my dog would love them. Unfortunately, I only found them in the USA too. I'm sure a few online stores there would ship to you but the postage would probably be a killer. Good luck and let us know if you find them here!

I know an online store in Sydney that stock it www.naturalpetstore.com.au but I haven't seen it in my local pet food store. I guess you could ask your local pet food store to see if they can get it in?
