shes so cute -
I though that was just my Cavalier :p ;) to the OP Lucy is crated at night she was "free range " for the first few moths of her life but I discovered she would leap up and investigate and soundat night and as we have a cat every time the cat moved or someone got up to got to the bathroom she would be up too wanting o go to the toilet I would not say it Crate or nothing but it does make life much easyer I have a mid size crate which is bigger then needed for a CKC and I live in a very small place but it fits just fine and is not a eye sore I have a nice cover over it OT but I really really dont like the idea of any dog made to sleep outside esp not a toy dog if that is the dog choice well fair enough my friend has a kelpie that will not sleep inside but would be allowed to if he wanted but I guess each to there own

there is a gastro bug going around In SE Berbs victoria that lasts about 7-10 days funny thing is it that time of year when people get it but I have heard of at least 5 dogs in diffrent areas all within the SE suberbs that have been Vacc and all have gone to the vet not parvo dog running around as pr normal but watery poo Areas Bayswater, Ringwood, Croydon, Knox , Richmond eddited to add theses dogs have never met as this is from people I work with unless us people are carryers I have no idea if that is even possable

this reminded me of somthing funny when Lucy came home with black spots in her ear I scrubed and scrubed the poor dogs ears I was sure she had ear mites or bites or somthing rang the vet all pissed off that she a caught somthing there the Vet Laughed her head off it was her De-sexing tatoo and Lucy u can see a scar the cat you cant but she was fixed up about 10 years ago

funny note my Mum in prepareing for her new puppy( a golden retrever) got her "puppy book" from the breeder they had a large list of good dry food foods and a extensive raw food plan but out off all the dry food they said that purena pro-plan (LBG) seemed to be the best for their dogs I think every dog is different some do really well on some food others not so much I tryed everything but could not get my dog to touch EPH , Purena pro-plan she seems to do good on

glad things are going well I know when I got my pup home could not belive how much is was like having a human babys it cryed ddi not want to be alone I was sleep deprived the first 2 weeks I was like a zombie I was fantazing about doggie nappys and dummy's for dogs just to shut her up in the night mine also was born on a farm had never heard alot of traffic in her life so it took some getting used to toliet training in the middle of melbourne winter was horrable and took a long time to click the key word I read about here saved my sanity but a year and a half later things a great took a long time but its worth it hang in there ( she will still srceam bloody murder if a reved up hoon goes passed though)

Something to remember Some little dogs do have a tendency to be a bit snappy it really depends on the dog I have a little girl and if I was ever to get another dog I would get a mature dog their personalities are already apparent and you can generally see what your in for if you can get one that is trained its so wonderful Though puppies are cute my goodness the work you have to put in is huge And you can get some nasty surprises mine is wonderful, loving, submisive dog but has some fear problems which showed themselves at about 5 months it was a bit of a shock when suddenly my wonderful puppy showed a nasty streak and needs alot of work to manage

I am scenario: child playing/ rolling around with a puppy has hand waving all over the place inculding the puppy face ( yes I know very bad a big no no child need traning as well ) both are excited puppy growls ( the way a puppy does with a another puppy )tail waging and nips no blood is drawn but there are teeth marks would this be mouthing or biting I understand if a dog or puppy in "lunging" barking, growling, and snaps this woulds be biting but in this situation what would this be I know I am really dumb
-
Lucys came back fine her incison was clean and tidy the Vet was not bad just very expensive and had alot of extras they kind of guilt you into paying for I hate guilt so I normally just pay up for peace of mind
-
As above what the difference between biting and mouthing I have been told Mouthing = Is typical puppy behaviour they have to learn is unacceptable Biting = Is very very bad will probably need professional help How can us newbie’s tell the difference

Lucy Is Starting Obedience Training
Falling_dawn replied to Falling_dawn's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
At 11:00 I did not know about the open day -
when I had my girl fixed I paid extra for blood work , IV fuilds , pain killers for 5 days, and a cone for her head , as a new dog owner I was unware and was on the phone to the Vet nurse all day as the price for her desexing went up by the hour dependeing on who I talked to I know It was my fault I was going to have to pay $ 470 for a 5kg 5 month old puppy But if I had lost her on the table it would have cost me alot more
-
I was guilted into paying for both after the deed was done I found out they have them hooked up to IV ready to go anyway incase there blood presser drops
