Can You Reccomend A Groomer Please
joanne76 replied to joanne76's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for your comments. I agree its probably not the best idea to clip a BC. I also dont think its a good idea for her to stay with the dog as she is a very panicy nervous lady who is always throwing her hands around and acting loopy at work over nothing.. Her concern is that if the dog hates clippers as it barks every time she clips her husbands hair so she thinks it will panic and also they groomer may not be kind to the dog.. -
I Have a work mate who has a Border Collie she would like to get clipped to keep her cool during the hotter months of summer. The dog has never been clipped before and the owner is naturally a nervous person. Can anyone reccomend a groomer in the Blacktown area it doesnt matter if its mobile or a shop. She would like someone who will accept her staying with the dog during the clip.. Thanks In Advance Jo

Clicker Or No Clicker? What Do You Prefer?
joanne76 replied to puppiluv's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yep I vote the clicker as well. Its easier to get that instant reward. i can click quicker than i can praise -
I can highly recommend using the Royal Canin Labrador Retreiver Puppy. Within 2 weeks of my girl going on it her coat became super glossy and she is thriving. I fed her Eukanuba for the first 12 months and have never heard that it can cause problems in Labs. mmm thats a bit scary. Regarding the added calcium, my vet told me its a definate no no. It could cause the bones to grow too quickly and will cause major problems later in life. I think now that we have such fantastic food available we dont need to add any supplements of than fresh food.

OOOHHH I love baby labs sooo much. I can highly recommend feeding your lab "Royal Canin, Labrador Retriever Puppy". I didnt start my girl on this till she was 12 months, prior to that she was on Eukanuba puppy. Within 2 weeks her coat had turned so shiney and glossy and she got a lovely shape to her waist. She is now on the adult blend and her coat is still super glossy. I have a friend who started her new lab pup on this and he is thriving also. ETA: I also feed my girl chicken necks daily and about once a week she will have a tin of sardines and a raw egg , she eats the shell as well which ive been told is full of calcium so if your dog is silly enough to eat it dont stop her.

Hills Science, Eukanuba Or Royal Canin?
joanne76 replied to austen's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Speaking only from my personal experience I would always choose Royal Canin. My lab has eaten all 3 brands but when i changed her over to RC Labrador Retriever I saw massive changes in her condition, she slimmed down and her coat became so shiny and silky. I also prefer RC cat food over the other brands too. -
Frank Im a bit insulted! I didnt give you my opinion I gave you some info on a local behaviourist.yet all you can do is come back here with insults and threats. I think your rude! You start this thread asking whats wrong with you dog but when you dont get the responses to support that your dog is at fault you start making excuses and getting defensive. You have been given many options from people who know what they are talking about ,when you out right say no to just about everything advised you have to expect that people are going to start thinking that your not the real deal, you dont really care about doing whats best for your dog. I feel really sad for Bailey. Living in the same area im sure we could meet on the street some day, so please dont be too hard on me frank!

Sunny70 I think the classes are run on Saturdays and to be honest im not sure of what happens during the class. I think they are adult obedience classes designed for dogs who have already learnt the basic and run for a period of weeks. i have my name down for the next class but i dont know when it starts. At the moment I go to an unofficial training class on Thursdays where we are learning tricks and our dogs have playtime. Its heaps of fun.

The first dog I owned in my adult life never received any training ever.. I honestly had no idea about training. I was lucky with her that she was a very calm quiet dog and would automaticaly stop and come when called. Since she passed away I have a new Lab, I decided before I got lola that i was going to take her to puppy pre school. We had such a great time and i found it so rewarding and educational that we continued on to complete the Delta Canine good Citizen course. We now have weekly training sessions which Lola loves and its a chance for her to see her doggy friends. Frank, training doesnt have to be a big deal, it can be fun for you and your dog and the difference it can make in the relationship between you and your dog is unbeleivable. There is nothing more rewarding than having a well socialised dog who you can take anywhere. I beleive you should be able to trust your dog and he should be able to trust you. I live about 15 mins away from you Frank. My trainer is in St Clair, She is a behaivourist. I would recommend you giving her a call, she does house visits and trains you to train your dog. She also explains to you WHY your dog does the things she does. Her name is Linda from Suburban Paws ph 9834 2525 Give her a call, she also hold group classes for puppies, adolescents and adults. Youve really got nothing to lose but everything to gain. Goodluck Jo

Dog Training/sports In Penrith Nsw Area
joanne76 replied to clueless's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I know that at the Penrith Paceway there is weekly obedience classes, Wednesday night I think. -
I cant even skip lunch myself so i wouldnt be able to live with myself if i didnt feed them. We do occasionally have a bone day and then i only give them a small amount of dry in the evening.

IMO its still too cold outside for a 9 week old pup. I live in "sunny" sydney and the nights are still very cool.

Ive never used Advanced so I cant comment on it. I used Eukanuba for my Lab Lola until I found RC Labrador Retriever Puppy. Once i switched I saw massive changes in her coat. Within a fortnight her coat was shiney as silk and she got a beautiful shape to her waist. I fully recommend it. Also once fraser is and adult you can change him over to the adulth lab blend. Ive asked what are the benefits of feeding it to a lab and was told that it has ingrediants to protect the joints and an ingrediant to promote a healthy coat, since labs have the thickest coat and blacks are prone to geting a reddish tinge. I have found massive changes in Lola's coat. I was going to feed Lola a barf diet and as the breeder did I continued it when i brought her home. WHen i took her to the vet for her vaccinations the vet tore strips off me and said i was irresponsible and didnt deserve to have a dog if i wasnt going to feed her right. I was so confused and upset I put her straight onto Eukanuba. Ive since spoken to another vet who also didnt reccomend the Barf diet. Ive got the Barf books and read them and found it all interesting and was %100 for it until the vet knocked the wind out of my sails. Sorry i just realised ive rattled on without answering your question at all. oops

Need Advice To Get My Girl To Walk On Leash
joanne76 replied to joanne76's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks Tony and Erny, Our obedience class is with a behaviourist (sp) she can be difficult to get hold of so i thought i would ask you guys. I will start tonight with the stop/sit go back the other way. I suppose the main thing is to be consistant and i also dont always take treats on a walk so i will go back to that too. thanks again guys.jo -
Your advice would be greatly apperciated. Lola is my 18 month old black lab. She has regular obediance training but nothing too serious, Its more just for fun. When she is on lead by herself she is usually pretty good and she listens most of the time to my corrections. I have another dog and I cant walk both together so I go on 2 walks, if by chance my hubby is home early we walk together with both dogs. Lola is a nightmare pulling me to get to Zack, If she walks up front with Zack she then tries to pull to get to smells before he does or she tries pulling to get back to me. We've tried walking Zack in front and keeping Lola at heal but she is still pulling and making herself pant very heavily. This didnt work at all. My hubby took zack one way and i went the other way with Lola to calm her down. She behaves the same at training if we walk around the block with our training freinds. she completely doesnt listen to me at all. I thought I could try to tackle the problem by walking along side zack, as soon as lola pulls i will turn her around and walk the other way until she calms down and then go back and rejoin zack who has stopped and keep doing this until she calms down. I have no other clue on how to stop this behaviour. I would love your advice because i want Lola and i to enjoy our walks together. thanks Jo

About 6 weeks ago I started feeding Lola ROyal Canin Labrador Retriever. WIthin about 2 weeks the change in her coat was amazing. SHe looks as shiny as silk and her body condition has also improved, she's dropped a bit of weight. I would highly recomend it. SInce it is expensive I feed Lola 2 cups of Biscuits with some raw chicken necks or wings. She looks great for it. Jo
