How Long Does A Dog In Season "bleed" For?
joanne76 replied to joanne76's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thankyou for your responses. I just went to Pet Barn and got her a pair of undies, she doesnt mind them on which is a releif. I have never expected to deal with a dog in season as my pets are all desexed at 6 months. Now I am in rescue I guess i can expect to see a great deal more than this I will take her back to the vet in 2 weeks as instructed and will discuss it all then. Thanks Again -
Hi All, I rescued the poor Chi x with Cherry eyes from Blacktown Pound yesterday. She is such a lovely dog, I took her straight to the vet and due to her eyes being badly infected the vet wants to put off desexing and eye surgery until her infection clears up, about 2 weeks. There was no sign of her season yesterday. Overnight little Cherry came into season.. all in my bed I must add. lol Ive have NO experience with dogs in season, Ive googled but all I can find is that she will be in season for around 3 weeks. Will she bleed for 3 weeks?? Can she be desexed while in season? She will be completely secure during this time so there is no chances of her getting out or a male getting to her but I really dont want her bleeding in bed... Thanks Jo

Vet Recommendations Sydney Inner/greater West
joanne76 replied to d.lam311's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I can vouch for Concord West Veterinery Clinic, They are right next to the railway station. -
Hi and Welcome. I have used a couple different Premium Foods and have found Royal Canin to be the best for my dogs and cats. I find Eukanuba to be very dry and cardboardy and my animals dont find it as palatable. RC is moist and smells good and is happily eaten by all of my animals. I changed my lab over from Science Diet to RC at 12 months old and the change in her condition was amazing.

My Bubby Has Severe Constipation
joanne76 replied to Bubitty's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
oopsey I read that as My HUBBY.... lol. Seriosuly I hope Bubby is ok and feeling better. -
Yep i'm another one who loves crating puppies. They soon learn that its "their" place and will often automatically go there to sleep. If you have it in you room he can continue to sleep in it as an adult rather than being outside alone. All he wants is to be with his family and being alone in a laundry is not what he wants or needs.

Is It Okay To Feed Raw Pig Trotters?
joanne76 replied to Aubrey's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
just a word of warning though, make sure that your dog doesnt bury it to eat later. unknown to me my dog did this and came down with severe food poisoning, he was sick as a dog and it was awful. Needless to say i havent fed trotters of any pork bones since. -
It reminds me of devon. That sounds yuck i know but there is a milky tang to it. Its so cute and especially nice when a pup yawns in your face.

Its true though there is nothing more sweet than puppies breath. People think im a freak when i say its my fave smell.
-
I always thought it was the residual smell of mothers milk as I dont feed my pups milk. I was horrified to read it here on DOL that its caused by worms. I feel much better knowing it isnt worms at all. thanks

I have never used crates in the past with my puppies but since become a foster carer of kittens i now own a couple of crates. I am now caring for 2 nine week old pups and thought i would try them in the crate. Its amazing how quickly they recognise this as "their" space they run in when frightened by something or when they are tired and they eat in there too. From now on I will crate all Puppies wether they be my own or fosters.

Good idea to add Roxies link. It puts a face to the reality of the poor dog who could very well end up euthanised due to inconsiderate/uneducated owners.

Ive always loved the smell of puppy breath and was told the smell was caused by intestinal worms. All the puppys that i have owned have had varying degrees of puppy breath but I have never noticed worms in their poo and all were wormed regularly. At the moment I am the lucky foster carer of 2 nine week old Shar Pei x pups. They both had a really bad worm infestation which they are still recovering from yet they have no puppy breath... Is that becasue the smell isnt casued by worms at all??? Sorry if thats a dumb question

My local puppy preschool is held in a vet clinic. Puppies can start after their 2nd vaccination. it is a 4 week course so you all start on the same week and finish on the same week. I think its good to be in a class of puppies at the same age and maturity level. I think the maximum age to start is 12 weeks.

awwwww I say bring the little guy inside. I couldnt stand my dogs being out whilst im at home.

How Do You Make The Decision... :(
joanne76 replied to Melo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Before it happened to me I didnt beleive it people said " you will know when its time" but its very true. One day she will look at you with a face that tells you she is ready and you will know. Im in the same position with one of my dogs and its awful. Take on day at a time. Best wishes to you both, i hope she feels better soon -
My Labrador has never been bathed in her life! Her coat is glossy and soft and she smells fine. She is an indoor/outdoor dog. The reason I dont bath her is because prior to her I had another black lab who used to follow me into the shower on occasion so I would wash her, she would have regular dog baths and her coat was so dry and disgusting. The more i washed her the drier she became and the more I would need to wash her to get the dry skin off her. At the time i didnt realise it was from over washing. My vet explained to me the damage i was doing so i stopped washing then and there. When i got this lab I decided i would see what happened to her without a bath. People are always commenting on what an amazing shiney coat she has but i put that down to her diet also.

Why cant he sleep inside with you? not in your bed but on his own bed in you room???

Best Training Treat To Use At Obedience
joanne76 replied to live_a_dream's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have the same problem with one of my girls. She is to busy watching everyone around her that she shows no interest in me or the food treats i offer. My trainer recommended that i stop feeding her from a bowl, all her meals need to come out of the treat bag and to feed her during training sessions only. That way she will recognise the treat bag as her food sourse and be interested to eat what i offer. To be honest I havent tried it yet. My other dog looooooves cabanosi sliced up. Good luck I hope you find a solution -
I have a foster kitten who had the runs on and off all the time, she had been wormed and seemed clear. My vet reccomend i feed her nothing but Chicken and acidophilus(sp) yoghurt for 7 days. It worked a treat and so long as I dont let her eat anything too rich her poohs stay solid. I think she has a sensitive tummy. Regarding the vet the same thing happened to me..... I took my brand new Lab puppy to the vet for a once over. Her breeder had fed her and all his animals on a raw diet and I thought I would do the same when i brought her home. I was going to a lot of effort to ensure i was giving her a balanced diet particularly as she was a tiny puppy. The vet tore shreds off me and virtually said that i am an irresponsible owner who shouldnt own pets. She told me to feed a good quality dry food only. I left the surgery with my puppy in my arms and I felt so guilty that i was doing wrong by her that I cried and went straight to the pet shop and brought a bag of food...... I no longer go to that vet but she did make me lose confidence in what I was doing.

A Must Read For Every Dog Owner
joanne76 replied to nicestman77's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thankyou so much for your warning. I have owned one of these in the past and will double check my back yard to make sure i no longer have one. I will also forward your warning to all my dog owning friends. Chais face has made me so sad, I wish I could give him a cuddle..
