I had never heard of crates until I joined DOL 3 or so years ago and now I think they are great. However I had showed and my dogs where used to the show trolley so I used to bring that in if I needed to contain them. So crate by default. I also used a puppy pen for pups and kittens so again crate by default.

If your whelping box has no base and the floor is to be concrete I would definitely be doing as Pers states, concrete can hold cold and be moist. Whereabouts in the house do you plan on having the box?? Most breeders have it in the lounge room or a spare room so that the pups get lots of noise experiences.

I think that is a very good price when they will have to go searching.

I think it's shame that "golden" retrievers are being bred so white I feel it makes them completely different looking,long haired labs maybe.

Are you going to get thundershirt? It's sounds like it could work for her anxiety at home.

I am replying on my IPhone which is tricky so I can not reply to all that I would like so will do from memory. Blackdogs are you for real, you claim to work in the industry but have no knowledge that scanners do not read all chips, like all things commercial each company made it's own style of chip and scanner to match. Oops big problem so they manufactured all chip reader, but of course early readers would have been expensive so vets would not replace in hurry. My vets scanner could not read a 1996 chip but when I took her to be rechipped it was found. The databases there are 5. The worst being New South Wales, only available being contacted directly and that is difficult. From memory you cannot find dog using the search tool either. All pounds in Vets in NSW use it so all NSW dogs once they leave must be transferred to National DB. If this tread is still alive tomorrow I will tell my story about LDH and dealing with ArsePCA.

Thanks everyone. I think Zarahs stress over the storms in the last 4 weeks caused the absorption of the pups. I am going to start using the Thunder Shirt.

Zarah has been xrayed and no babies. She had since passed a big poo that was obvious on the xray.

Good points Dzney. If you only had one entire dog and one neuter and the National was not offering neuter class and there was one local I would go local. GRD why don't you put up a motion to make class 18 compulsory.
