  1. I have many of these and love them :D The covers are easy to wash. And i made a few covers myself too to swap around. And i use the beds myself when i sit on the floor to brush the dogs They are in most states now and so far have lasted a good few years no loss of comfiness of thickness. Touch wood! They are Sydney based. Thats what i thought and why i didnt suggest them! That's cool - heading up towards Taree anyway! Are they worth it?
  2. The other thing I recall is they reckoned dog hair wouldn't stick to them....which means it will be on my floors instead but you can't have everything :D
  3. Thanks! I wish I could think of this other company. Tried googling but just got lots of chain pet stores.
  4. Nice Jules - pretty model! Which markets please?
  5. Ha ha ha! There will be a thread of course! Heading up to NSW for 3 days of retrieving trialling then agility on the way home. No Nationals or anything - just need a break and thought this might be fun :) Will have my hands full with 3!
  6. I had a Lappy in one of my classes. OMG the barking It's so bizarre when you have quiet Spaniels!!! I really had to think outside the square with him
  7. Can anyone remember the name of the company that makes these please? I recall them looking gorgeous and having washable covers (!!!) but thinking postage was a bit prohibitive. However I'm planning a road trip so thought it might be a nice opportunity to get one for Zig! Thanks in advance!
  8. I rarely recommend my breeds....they are perfect for me though! Dalmatians - the movie, the hair, the special diet/stone forming risk, the energy, the "meh, what's in it for me?" attitude until you find out what makes them tick. Working ESS - bitches in particular...Energiser bunny, incredibly focussed on birds, rabbits, ducks etc,, need a job to keep them with you, not an easy dog to walk - they can't help but hunt and quarter the whole way and certainly not a dog that I let run freely in cover....if they get on a scent they go deaf very quickly. Yes, she recalls very well but I have to call her back literally every 30 seconds before she disappears from view. It's exhausting!
  9. You did have a puppy to play with though! What would you get RS Started shaping the retrieve with Ginny tonight. Tried a few weeks ago and she was all confused - offering different behaviours and we weren't having fun so I put it to one side for a bit. Was a good idea as tonight she did so much better. She's killing walking singles - buckets of drive and confidence so have started waiting until she offers steadiness before releasing her. It's a really different journey from Em - my experience aside - their strengths and weaknesses are quite different. Really keeps me on my toes.
  10. Shake the biscuit jar when he's asleep :D You can BAER test I guess but the former would be my first option with an older dog.
  11. Meh! Piece of cake :D Get one without talking to me about breeders, though, and then we could get into an argument lol. I know of a lovely litter on the ground at the moment...
  12. Well let me tell you I don't do any of the running lol! Nice walks on the beach and in the forest with LOTS of recall practice to keep him on his Spotted toes. It's hard to look back and remember how many struggles I had with Zig because he's such a breeze now...right now he's grumbling in his bed because the girls are playing too rough. Nowhere near him mind you
  13. This is the reason I can't see myself ever owning a Dally even though they are my all-time favourite breed and I've longed and longed for one ever since I was a little girl. Working breeds are one thing but the exercise requirements of a Dal sound like a whole different level altogether! Maybe one day when I win the lotto and own acres and acres and acres of land. *dreams* Yes and no :) They are no different to any other dog in some respects. I expect juice and I and other lovers of the breed will tell you THE WORST things about them because they were so exploited and romanticised by those bloody movies and we see so many dogs called "Pongo" that end up in rescue. They shed like all get out, they love to RUN and they don't hang on your every word like my Springers seem to naturally do. But my Zig doesn't nick off hunting like the Springers do either  I live on 3/4 acre but I guarantee I will trip over my Spotty Dog at least once a day...and if I can't find him I just look for the nearest central heating vent! I am his world and he is so devoted it's difficult to feel worthy. He's been my best teacher. And any dog that pulls off an Ag Ch can't be all bad :D Oh and Em felt so easy after Zig....and then along came Ginny I blame the breeder!
  14. Why not reward the pup for being on his own bed? It's much easier to teach a dog to DO something than tell them NOT to do something.
  15. Beautiful blink blink! Good luck WM and great work everyone :)
  16. As a Dally owner I'm with juice - they do need lots of mental stimulation and physical exercise. My entire male is now 8.5 and he's always been a target for other male dogs so I only ever run him with females apart from a few rare occasions where I know and trust the other male not to start something. He's a HUGE leg lifter but never inappropriately at home even with bitches in season in the house. He's never toileted in the ring either but I concentrate on staying connected with him, putting toileting on cue and using it as part of my reward system. As a youngster - walking on sidewalks required concentration as he would happily pee on ANYTHING. Definitely do your research about diet too. This is my Ziggy this weekend just gone... https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1486321388329566&id=100008551569765
  17. I have two adults and one pup in active training - everyone is trained 1:1 for the most part whilst the other 2 are crated. Sometimes I'll concentrate on having a simple session with one of them whilst the others are being rewarded for lying quietly in their beds. My dogs are split up and rotated quite a bit - outside, inside, crate, pen, separately, together - food is always delivered separately. No bones together unless they are really stripped bare marrow bones with not much value. Pup gets veggie pig ears for chewing and the adults are simply not allowed to pinch them from her no matter how much she parades them. I put her outside with frozen chicken frames or Maryland (skin/fat removed) and that keeps her going for ages. Cardboard boxes are great for shredding!
  18. Fantastic RS! Congratulations It really is one of the most difficult sports but so rewarding! I haven't updated here for ages as I've been so busy with pups and everything else. Em has finished 6 (I think?) AA trials now (2 coming straight back from pups) - it's really hard to place/win in Vic so I'm very happy with where we are at. Still feels like a very steep learning curve. Currently working on verbal only backs, lining and selection. Em had an awesome day out as a proper Gundog and I am having a ball with young Ginny's training. Lots of walking singles on paint rollers (teething!), agility foundation, recalls etc. She's bold as brass in cover and is happily wading in water above her shoulders but not quite swimming yet. She's picked up a pigeon and duck with so much enthusiasm that I've banned those until she's retrieving to hand properly. Very cool around guns too. The other great news is that two of Ginny's brothers have gone to homes keen to do retrieving - one somewhat experienced and one a raw beginner but an excellent trainer. I have been training with the latter over the last month and pup has plenty of talent. Just nailing walking singles. Super determined young thing - he was my pick for a hunting home.
  19. Good girl Poppy! Amber you're doing great!
  20. Amber has a liver shunt - Jules has done an amazing job of managing it. I can only surmise that the jaundice is a consequence.
  21. Oh Jules Sending healing thoughts to Amber xxx
  22. I have a skinny pup here of my own breeding. Incredibly active and just too busy to eat! She's also been teething like crazy so probably a bit uncomfortable. She's really enjoying frozen chicken Maryland (skin/fat removed) so I don't think her teeth are helping. Make sure pup is left alone in a quiet place with the food for 10 min - crate or pen works for me. Half way through Ginny usually decides she needs a pee/poo/drink of course. At night I give her a bit of a slushie - so she eats it before it's soft but it's easier on her teeth - I mix in a bit of good yoghurt, sardines, mince etc with water. Yesterday I got 3.5 cups into her which was perfect. I used some in training too which she was much more enthusiastic about.
  23. Ha ha ha! Zig's whining right now because Ginny has a veggie pig ear and I've forbidden him from pinching it from her
