  1. Hi Clydes I have posted in the Dally thread already. There are several types of urinary stones - some common to all dogs and one type that is specific to Dals (and I think a few other breeds). Your vet needs to know what type of stones they are before treating. Have a really good read of the American Dally Club website that I posted - there is some leading research over there at the moment. As for drinking, some Dally owners add a dash of milk to encourage their Dals to drink - worth a shot!
  2. Border Lover - that's awesome! Congratulations everyone on a great weekend of trialling....hope everyone had fun .....must say it was lovely to snuggle up inside instead of the early starts that have been typical of late Thank you Natsu chan - I'm giving Zig a 'mini-spell' as he just bounces back beautifully after a rest and I think he's earned it! A 'rest' for Ziggy entails daily beach gallops, wrestling with the foster failure kitten and pinching his toys, interrupted by a few minutes of fun training games here and there It also gives me a chance to take stock and re-evaluate my training techniques without feeling under pressure. Hastings (my agility club) have a trial at the end of the month so I plan to enter that.
  3. I can't win.....my Dally comes home from an hour's run at the beach and THEN has an attack of the lounge room zoomies In a very small house, I just concentrate on getting the cats out of the way in time for the madness!!!
  4. When I was in East Timor (Army deployment), we had a demo by one of the handler-dog teams and a decoy as it was too wet and muddy to do anything else. Brilliant, brilliant stuff - I got it on video and included it in a DVD I gave to all the unit members who went. I edited the demo into a 3 minute story board and backed it with Frank Sinatra singing "I've got you under my skin"
  5. That is very cool Bags not being the decoy! I'd need a change of pants after that
  6. What is this???? Quali - central or something What a fabulous weekend of results! Congratulations Dee-al (and title ), Reddii, Levi and mntgood
  7. That's wonderful Ptolomy Congratulations P.S. Can you please tell Donna to get off her and email me!!! :D I'd love to stay in touch with how she's going with Lochie!
  8. Congratulations superminty I think YOU should get ET after your name after all that I was going to volunteer to help today but unfortunately had an unavoidable prior commitment. Really glad to hear it all went smoothly
  9. Not forgetting that many, many human drugs are covered by the PBS!
  10. The company that makes Urine-Off makes the black lights. You could ask around, do an internet search or contact the distributor. Hope that helps
  11. Half my house is on it My Bowen therapist started my very sick foster kittens on it....and then when one of the fosters looked like staying I started both my cats on it (2 drops in their food at night)......oh, plus I'm on it too (2 drops under the tongue morning and night) I always take it the night before and morning of an obedience trial. She also uses the Ausflower essences as part of her treatment - I have a concoction in the cupboard when I was recovering from a migraine. I'm a terrible sceptic but think this stuff is pretty good.
  12. Retrieving is an awesome sport Have a look at the DOGS Victoria website for info and links to clubs.
  13. At the end of the day, training our dogs should be FUN! That's not to say it's easy but it should be enjoyable. Has anyone else tried handling him? Someone with a really good track record in motivating dogs. Maybe just to see if you are affecting him with your body language (particularly if you're feeling a bit down). I would take the pressure off both of you and go back to some really basic conditioning exercises - e.g. "Diesel!" *treat* (oh, and if he's not food motivated, try some blood pudding...sliced thinly and dried in the microwave - Sue Hogben swears by it!)
  14. Kavik, are you saying that the lack of motivation (for want of a better word) could be medically related?
  15. One thing that I've found has worked with Zig (who, as laffi well knows, would MUCH prefer to be off sniffing and marking his territory than training!) has been to make him work for EVERY scrap of food he gets. I've started to back off on this (as he eats a LOT and it takes forever to get through 4 cups of dry food ) but his motivation is much better - last night he even stopped eating from his Buster Cube but was bouncing out of his skin when I started throwing dry food for him and asked him to do a few exercises. It's not been an easy road with Ziggy so I can really feel your pain! What's your current approach with him?
  16. Congratulations on your decision LP - hope the little tyke does you proud :p
  17. Just brilliant photos and story helen :p Congratulations on Chazer's first pass ;) but that last shot of Bella flying over the paint is just priceless
  18. Wow! That's an awesome result for such a young dog! Congratulations
  19. Thanks - anyone I should ring in particular? Zig's only really starting out still so don't mind doing prep stuff at all.
  20. What time JulesP? That would be good for at least the next few weeks as my tutoring students are on holidays
