Vote To Amend The Bill

Maybe because there isn't anything to debate? Everyone realises it is just dumb. There is a lot of activity on my FB page. I think people view it as so flawed that it couldn't possibly pass. But they have the numbers in the Lower House and could get them in the Upper House. People need to realise that it's only the phoning and emailing to MPs by regular members that has stopped this so far. -

I suspect half the problem is that everyone thinks Dogs Vic will fix. But it has been made abundantly that they are not interested in Dogs Victoria's point of view. Without a groundswell of support they will get the numbers in the Upper House because the Libs will be too scared that they'll be accused of encouraging puppy farms. -

I know Airedaler. Trust me I've tried. But everyone thinks it's just about puppy farms. And it's not. The government and all the animal rights orgs see Dogs Vic members as being part of the problem. http://purebreddogs.org.au -
It can change as they mature - my youngster couldn't eat cheese without getting the runs so I would give her a couple of small pieces amongst her normal treats and now she is fine. I don't feed sausage - full of preservatives and fat. Pig ears - feed the veg ones. My Dally can't eat the original ones so everyone has the veg ones. Give whole raw chicken frames for munching on. Cooked chicken and boiled egg make great treats Much prefer 4 Legs over Chunkers Appetite will change as they mature but don't pander to them and make sure they're slim and trim. My youngster was distracted away from food at 5 weeks!!! Finally she loves it at 18 months. Still skinny, crazy running girl though.

Absolutely! RPSCA are fixated on traceability but, as is constantly pointed out to them, who is going to prosecute the people on Facebook or the FTGH ads where you pay cash or the people who advertise at the corner store??? -

Please vote here to amend the bill: http://purebreddogs.org.au No-one wants puppy farms but breeders doing the right thing should not be dragged down with them. -
Vote To Amend The Bill

Jules nailed it. Main issue with it is requirement for a DAB permit from the council to breed a litter at all. Cost from $300-$3000 dollars per year. Plus some require ABN and $10 million public liability. And zoning restrictions meaning councils actually are saying they will refuse to issue them. More than 5 dogs and you have to build commercial kennels $40K +++. Affects the cat breeders and the bird people too. Just poorly thought through and simplistic. -
This petition draws attention to the Domestic Animals Amendment (Puppy Farm and Pet Shops) Bill 2016. By signing this petition we ask and request the Legislative Assembly of Victoria review to amend the Bill so that an evidence-based approach to issues around animal welfare and the pet industry can be achieved. http://purebreddogs.org.au Please vote and share today.

Transferring The Value Of Rewards
The Spotted Devil replied to mowgliandme's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have tried being super exciting, running around, waving my arms around and making noise (and giving treats, praise and pats) but it is apparently not as interesting as sniffing the grass after the first go or two and neither are treats... So here is a large part of your problem as I see it. You are trying to LURE the dog. And the dog learns to compare what you've got and what he's got. You need to teach the dog to recall in a much lower distraction envirinment. Set the dog up for success. Give him an opportunity to make good choices. Then give him a clear choice. Build in distractions. You can't go from puppy school to university in one step! -
Proposed Changes To Breeding Regulations.
The Spotted Devil replied to PaddyForever's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've done more research into this. Some of the staff are misinformed and give out incorrect info. You are only subject to excess animal permit. Even regular folk can have up to 2 fertile breeding bitches and not have a DAB. Of course that will change if we don't fight this current stuff up. -
I have several of the ProPlan large tins that hold a large bag. Not even the cat can get the lid off.

It's BS. DABs range from $200, $300, $550, &3,500!!! Not to mention councils wanting ABN and public liability insurance. And what happens if your bitch is due to whelp on the cusp of the DAB renewal? What happens if all the puppies die? I refuse to absorb any more expenses. Costs me a fortune as it is. -

Victorian Gov To Introduce New Breeding Laws
The Spotted Devil replied to bluedeer's topic in In The News
The problem is, in part, that the legislators think that getting a DAB is a simple process. But they forget that councils interpret the DAB through their own local laws, hence the variation in annual fees - from $300 to $3000 - a requirement for an ABN, some that want $10 million public liability and others that have strict planning and zoning restrictions. Multiple councils are saying they will NOT be giving out DABs. They have no idea what is going on with the amendment. They too have been completely blindsided by this new requirement. -
