  1. I can't help you but I hope poor Douglas doesn't hear you call him a "Stumpy-butt Dog".... He might get a complex about his height
  2. I have seen them sewn on fabric and made into a wall hanging. You could make one with a sheet of material, a piece of timber threaded through top and bottom (or something like a curtain rod) and then sew or pin the ribbon on the fabric.
  3. Personally I would be cutting out the tinned food and replacing it with something like chicken necks, chicken frames, brisket bones etc.... IMO tin food is like feeding kids McDonalds - not a lot of nutritional value. Edited: to add .. like mickatie said [posting at same time ]
  4. I just made up a mix for my boys on the weekend and boy does it smell.... There's was a mix of beef and chicken mince (not all the fatty skin just the frames), heart and liver, mackeral, and vege's. I think what smells the most was the puree liver (it came in slices and I couldn't be bothered chopping it up). They guys were at the back door desperately trying to come in but I was inside ready to chuck up The heart pieces on the other hand came up like a nice mince :D I freeze our in cheap chinese take-away containers - the rectangle ones stack better in the freezer.
  5. Instead of the stick - you could try a floating toy. Kong has one wich is basically a blue/white kong shaped toy with a yellow rope attached. When I started taking my GSD pup to the river I usually swim him on a long line (which I try to keep up out of the water so they don't get tangled). This way if he starts to get into trouble I can still pull him out. I would just keep an eye on the dogs and rest them when they are showing signs of getting tired. Swimming is very good for their muscles but at the same time there is a risk of bull sharks in creeks/rivers. It is your dog and I am sure you really love them so you just need to make the best decision you can make. Hope you all have lots of fun.
  6. I used to use Fido's Bath Wipes between washes but they do get rather expensive (I now just keep a packet in my travel bag for "just in case"). What I now do is give the dogs a good brush and then wipe them over with a damp chamois before spraying them with Fido's Fresh Coast Spray (it is a cologne coat conditioner & deodorant spray). They smell so pretty .... until they roll in the back yard and come back filthy again
  7. No - actually I haven't had any problems with them. The leather leads used to slip more then any other lead I have used. I brought a beautiful tracking lead from Canine Outfitters - it is a pleasure to use. Even though my boys can pull like freight trains - I never had any trouble holding the line. I thought I would need gloves but I haven't even had so much as a slight friction burn.
  8. I love the Real Dog Equipment's Obedience Lead. With solid brass clips and a flat tube the lead is super strong. We use them for our security dogs - we used a leather version for many years but have now swapped to this one (much less maintenance). I also use the Prestige Pet range of padded leads (the link is just the normal ones not the padded ones).
  9. I get a bucket and half fill it with water and then freeze it solid. I put some nice treat in (so it sits in the middle) and then fill the rest of the bucket up with water and return it to the freezer. My GSD will spend the whole day licking and chewing on that ice to get the treat - keeps him occupied for ages. Our rottie on the other hand will just wait for it to melt and then grab the treat (if the GSD hasn't got it first)....
  10. It's a dog. Would I eat cat poo? F*** no, but both my dogs would jump at the chance. What is it with dogs and cat poo? My mothers dog loves it fresh from the kitty litter .... crunchy
  11. Might be worth checking with your vet - I know they gave our cat an injection to increase her appetite. It worked well.
  12. I would also be worried about the disease side of things and where the mouse had been prior to getting into the dogs food. Being a puppy I would probably just chuck it out.... We buy the large bags of dog food and store ours in a metal bin - it stops the pesky little mice from getting in.
  13. My 4yr old "pup" has chewed through: - the power supply for the aircondition unit, - power cables for the fish pond pump, - the whole back yard of microsprays, - decapitated a palm tree (about 15cm thick base) - $100's of dollar of plants (particularly loves azalea's) - Every plastic pot (with and without plants) - My car - Dog beds - Corner of a brick which is part of the back step (the one closest to his bed of course) ... just to name a few things. He loves chilli, tabasco sauce, the "Stop bite" nail polish and every spray sold in petshops to stop chewing .... so ... good luck :D I think threatening to have him desexed without anaesthetic and using a blunt spoon has started to work ..... :D
  14. My boys have a kong but they aren't fussed with them. They only chase them the "regular" kong when I bounce it on the ground and it goes off in another direction ... they get bored easierly and prefer squeaky toys. Maybe kong should make squeaky kongs.
  15. My older brother and his wife have the same problem with their little girl (Chi x Pom). They freeze two or three together and then give them to her frozen - that way she had to chew them because the bundle it too big to swallow. You could try some of the larger chicken necks or even a turkey neck. Alternatively you can try chicken wings or chicken frames.
  16. Start by flea bombing the house/garage and spraying the entire yard with Malawash. Also wash all the dogs bedding and dog in malawash (cheap and effective). If the house is off the ground also spray under the house. Then for the next few weeks spray regularly. When we had fleas bad (due to the cat being them in) - I would keep a spray bottle handy and spray the dogs areas daily. You will need to spray frequently to stop the flea cycle.
  17. I tried teaching my GSD to put his toys away. He thought it was a great game. He would pick up his toy and take it to his toybox and that is were the trouble started. One toy would go in and two would come out....
  18. No Way (he's gorgeous but..) KOVU, KOVU, KOVU Vote for KOVU Sorry but you are both wrong .... Jefe should be the winner (even if only 4 other people agree with me ) VOTE FOR JEFE
  19. NNNNOOOOOOOO Someone please vote for Jefe.... Look at this face ..... The poor boy is slowly lagging behind in the votes.... Please VOTE FOR JEFE And no he isn't my dog ... I don't even know who's dog he is.
  20. No but I am willing to be bribed..... :p I just love rotties.... even though I do have a GSD, rotties are definately my favourite. ;) And Jefe is sooo cute ;) VOTE for JEFE
  21. Jefe has it all .... just look into his eyes and his gorgeous face ... VOTE FOR JEFE!!! :p
  22. I got some chamois's from Eukanuba. I thought they were for drying off the dog but I wet them and used them to wipe the faces of our dogs while I was bathing them (they don't like having the hydrobath around their face) - they came up soooo clean. I used to use the doggy wipes but the chamios makes them much cleaner.....
  23. But look at Jefe's eyes and his gorgeous face ... :p VOTE FOR JEFE!!!
  24. No no no no no ... it has to be a rottie. Vote for Jefe.... just look at those eyes
  25. Our 3 year old entire GSD male still squats like a girl ... unless there is another dog around and then he lifts his leg (he probably doesn't want to look like a girl) He didn't start lifting his leg until he was about 2.
