  1. My 13 weeks old GSD had his first puppy pre-school class today ... and he was extremely vocal. There was 6 puppies in his class - 2 ridgebacks, 1 lab, 1 JRT and one small white fluffy thing that was just so tiny. He was a bit over excited by all the puppies and their owners (there was 14 people there) - he thought they should all be giving him attention and was being vocal so he could remind them he was there. Unfortunately he was too over stimulated to actually learn anything but we had been practicing at home so he knows his sit, come, drop, and toileting. He also knows to wait when I put his bowl down for his food command ... as long as I don't wait too long. We are still working on leave ... but that seems to go out the window when he finds a shoe that interests him. Puppy class is more about socialistion and neutralisation. Glad your puppy class went well
  2. Agree with keeping him on a leash under your close supervision. When you are taking him outside to toilet - put a command with it ... something like go "Toilet". Start doing that everytime he toilets. Makes life easier when you need to take him outside in the rain or cold to have a command that he understands. I am sure my neighbours are sick of hearing "Go Toilet", "Good Toilet" or "do you need to do Numbers 2's" at all hours of the night
  3. The little boy had a very good night and is completely back to normal (unfortunately ). He has to finish his anti-biotics this week but other then that I think he is completely better - will still be keeping a stict eye on him just to be safe. I am still wondering if it was just a bug he picked up or if it really was the needle. He had his needle at 9:30am on the Saturday morning, was fed at 6pm and didn't start vomiting until 12:30 that night - there seemed to be an awful long time between needle and reaction. We will need to look at our opinions and make a decision about his third needle within the next 3 weeks ...
  4. The little boy has had a good day but I am not getting excited until he also has a good night tonight. I definately think he is feeling a lot better as he is bouncing around more like normal - not as flat and sleepy. So fingers crossed ... hopefully he also has a good night
  5. I give my boy access to his water 24/7. It took a while to find a dish that he didn't manage to empty ... I am using a large bird dish which screws to the side of the crate & thankfully he can't tip it over.
  6. I must admit when I read the title of this thread I was a little :p of coming in to read ... you really don't want to know what I was thinking it was about :D
  7. I have been adding a watery chicken broth to my boys food as a way of increasing his fluids. He loves it. Because he had a tummy bug and wasn't well - he was getting chicken breast and pumpkin in a watery chicken soup :D
  8. The little boy has been to the vet ... he has got a bit of a temperature and has lost about 0.7kg. The vet has given him an injection to stop the vomitting and some anti-biotics - they think it is a tummy bug rather then related to the needle. If there is no improvement in the next 24 hours then they will need to start running tests and maybe some scans to rule out an obstruction.
  9. Well ... we had another bad night last night. He started vomiting again at about 2am and continued until about 6am. It wasn't continual vomiting but it was about 30 minutes to an hour apart. Thankfully I managed to catch him each time (after the first one) and rushed him outside - so I didn't need to do a complete bedding change. I can't understand why it is at night only. He only did one little vomit yesterday morning and then was fine for the rest of the day. He is off to the vet this afternoon and I have a friend watching him for the day.
  10. My 12 week old GSD is toileted at about 9:30pm and then again before I go to bed at about midnight (I wake him up and carry him outside) ... and he still wakes up anywhere from 4:30am to 5am ... some days I am lucky and he sleeps through until 6am. From day one he was toileted with the command "Go Toilet" - he now goes anytime I ask him to which make things easier.
  11. He got both as an injection. Thankfully he is doing a lot better this afternoon. He had a big sleep during the day and then a little bit of food which he had kept down so far. I will give him another couple of hours and then give him a little more food - so fingers cross he keeps it all down.
  12. It was a C3 and Kennel Cough vaccination. Poor baby is now sleeping in his crate...
  13. Yesterday morning my 12/13 week old GSD pup was vaccinated. He was a little tired after I got him home but he was doing everything normal - I wasn't too concerned because I had been playing with him a bit that morning to wear him out so he would behave at the vets. Last night about 12:30am I heard his vomitting/regurgitating his dinner (which he had about 6pm). I took him outside and cleaned up his crate. He was running around fine outside, went to the toilet etc so after about 30 minutes I put him back to bed. About 20 minutes later he was vomitting again. Again I put him outside for a while I cleaned things up. About an hour or so later he was vomitting again. Later on he vomited again but is was liquid only (obviously nothing left in his stomach). I contacted his vet and he didn't seem concerned - basically saying some dogs have a bit of a reaction and that he will be fine. I tossed up about feeding him this morning but he was absolutely starving - so I gave him a couple of chicken wings. He has vomitted once more after breakfast. Should I be concerned? I have done a search on the internet but all that did was make me more concerned...
  14. Depending on the style/type of playpen maybe stack a second playpen on top to make it double the height .. secure with cable ties (do make sure it is secure and won't topple over).
  15. Try not to worry too much - the pathology (sp?) results can still come back clear even if the vet suspects otherwise. When our 7 yr old GSD boy had prostate issues and was rushed into surgery - the specialists all suspected cancer because it was abnormalities but thankfully everything came back clear. This same dog had a pea size lump on his side as a young boy - I told doctors I didn't want to know if it was bad news. So when I picked him up after surgery and the vet didn't say anything I then went home and cried because I thought it was bad news. It then took me another couple of days to work up the courage to check with the vet ... and he laughed and said "I forget to tell you that everything is fine". I didn't know if I should have kicked the vet or kissed him Give your boy some extra cuddles from us
  16. Thanks everyone I thought she was talking out of her but I thought I would check anyway
  17. My 12 week old GSD pup hiccups a couple times a day - I realise this is nothing to worry about in itself ... but I was "very rudely" informed by a woman outside the vet clinic last night that pups that hiccup are more prone to bloat? Is there really any connection between hiccupping and bloating?
  18. I find if my dogs will always leave dry food if they are offered raw or know they will be getting raw at some point that day. Try mixing his dry food with the chicken mince and maybe something like sardines - make sure you give it a good stir through ... or maybe try adding a little gravy (make sure it is low salt). I am feeding my almost 12 week old GSD on raw and are using the BARF patties which are already made up (because I also don't know a lot about RAW yet - didn't want to take the risk of getting it wrong). I had all intentions of feeding dry food until he was a bit more mature but he made it look like I was trying to poison him - so I ditched the dry all together and went completely RAW. He is thriving.
  19. It really depends on the size of the dog. We have big dogs so I use these leads. Super strong and brilliant quality. We have similar leads in leather but I find the leather can be a little slippery in wet weather and need a fair bit of care - where as these other leads can be chucked in the washing machine and really last.
  20. I think my boys were crazy until they are about 7 or 8 years of age ...
  21. I find freezing a couple of chicken necks together helps with the swallowing whole ... I give my boys a 1kg block of necks and they still make short work of them
  22. My GSD had a pea sized lump on his side ... when he went in for stitches (cut his leg) a couple of days later the vet removed the lump at the same time. I told the vet if it was cancer then I didn't want to know ... and when he didn't say anything I then began to worry. I think I lasted about 3 days before I called the vet to discuss ... and he forgot to mention that is was just a fatty lump and nothing to worry about. Scared the hell out of me...
  23. Any bones that require the dog to chew are fine for their teeth. My boys get chicken necks, chicken frames, chicken wings, turkey wings, turkey necks, and brisket bones.
  24. Does the food look partially digested or just chewed? Maybe an obstruction?
  25. I realise normal Agility is not suitable for young large breed puppies because of their joints ... but is there a safe version of agility for puppies? Is there any clubs in Brisbane suitable? Many thanks
