  1. I have been bad I was using the hedge trimmer to trim the hedge near the fence when the pup jumped up and hit the hedge trimmer before I could stop him or the trimmer. As he didn't yelp I assumed he missed the blade but I have just found blood smears on the concrete. On closer inspection I have found he has a cut on the underside of his toe but I can't get the bleeding to stop. It is not too bad ... but he is leaving blood smears behind when he walks. I have rinsed the foot off and confined him to the puppy pen. I was going to bathe his foot with some warm salt water but should I do anything more? How long will it take for the cut to heal?
  2. Here is one of the old boofer for you ... he is getting a litte grey round the edges but still loving work I think he is a little jealous of the younger one - maybe he thinks he is being replaced :D
  3. If you don't feed him he starts chewing on anything he can find ... hands, feet, legs, my mother ;) Poor baby looks at his food bowl and give you the "is that all" look ... good think he loves his veges otherwise he would be completely starving.
  4. The greyhounds didn't care too much for him ....
  5. My little baby boy has gone from this ....
  6. Thanks - I will try that one tonight when I get home
  7. I took some photo's yesterday ... I was in the process of downloading them when it just stopped. I am now unable to access the card on my camera or via the memory card reader on the USB thingy. My camera tells me to clean the memory card and try again or to reformat it. The USB memory card reader doesn't show anything. Is there any software or anything that can recover the photo's or are they lost? There was a couple of very good shots of my boy and I really wanted them ...
  8. I took my GSD pup to puppy pre-school and I had a choice if I did or didn't want him to play with other pups. There had 2 pups of similar size, temperament have a short on leash introduction and play. I did a quick intro and walk away with my pup as I chose not to allow him to play because he was too interested in the other pups. One thing I did not participate in was the swapping dogs - as my boy is going to be trained as a security dog I wanted him socialised (on my terms) and I didn't want a first time dog owner handling him.
  9. I felt like an idiot this morning when I took my pup to a busy shopping centre carpark and did some obedience with him and were weaving in and out of cars. People were looking at me strangely as a carpark is not a place you normally take a pup to do training. Later on we walked down a street on bin day and the pup got a a little spooked by the lid of the rubbish bin which was blowing in the wind ... here I was playing with the lid of the smelly bin, making an idiot of myself trying to make it something fun.
  10. Critter Cottage has cooling bandana's ... I just brought some for 2 greyhounds
  11. Just keep an eye on her and if she goes off her food or is unwell then take her to the vet. My boys have eaten odd things and normally pass it within a day or two.
  12. My old GSD has trouble pooing if he gets too much bone - it makes his poos hard and very dry so they take a lot more work getting them out. If she is not used to have bones regularly then I wouldn't give her too many - 1 every couple of days rather then every day. I would hold off giving her any more bone until she has toileted.
  13. I fed our boys on the Nutro for a while and they had never been so shiny and healthy ... then we got a "bad" batch. Their urine became very smelly ... so we stopped feeding it immediately and never went back.
  14. Our dogs are normally outside dogs. The older boy sleeps outside on the veranda or in the garage on one of his bed 3 beds. The younger one normally sleeps in his crate in the lounge room. During some warmer weather he started sleeping outside (his choice) but when we started getting toads again he is back inside at night in his crate.
  15. Can't really help because I am a newb as well ... apparently the dog just know what to do :p I have been told there are people to help you on the day. Come and introduce yourself ... I will have a red sable GSD pup and will be with another lady who has 2 greyhounds (a dainty little beige one and a big brindle one).
  16. I use pieces of dehydrated lamb or fish. Occassionally I use pieces of chicken cut into small pieces and then put in a low oven for an hour or so until they are dried out.
  17. Check out this website. The entry form for the Warwick one is at page 15 of The Pursuit Magazine. There is a club at Warwick and at Kuraby ... my boy was too young for the one at Kuraby but he is now 6 months so he is old enough for the puppy run. It is about a 2 hour drive for me but we are making a day of it
  18. Is anyone going to the lure coursing in Warwick on the 25th? I am taking my GSD pup for his very first puppy run ... and I have images in my head of him running all over the place and not coming back to me as he is having far too much fun
  19. I took my GSD pup to Centenary Dog Obedience - it wasn't bad. It didn't suit my dog (because he is going to be a security dog and is high prey drive - doesn't sit still for a second) but I didn't mind what I saw of them.
  20. When my boy had his tick we had to keep him quiet for at least 2 weeks. He is only just now completely back to normal but he still gets tired quickly. When he is tired his breathing gets a little laboured. It is going to be a case of slowly building him up again. So do take things easy and try not to let her get overly tired ... Very glad to hear she is doing so much better
  21. A precious gift A priceless treasure Our Perfect Angel We made a wish … and she came true Hold hands firmly … hearts gently Wisdom begins in wonder
  22. It could have been you at the park ... but I swear it was a male I swear this guy is there everyday when I drive down to the park (at the end of my street!!!) - normally the dog performs well but last night he was saying sit and it was dropping but he just kept at it and each time the dog would offer up another behaviour and it never matched what was asked ... or just looked at him like he had said nothing at all. The guy ended up dragging the dog home ... literally dragging it as the dog refused to walk with him as he could tell the guy was ticked off. I sometimes have this problem during obedience classes were my pup is not focused as he is distracted by everything else going on ... and the instructor keeps telling us to pull them into line and make them sit if you tell them to sit. I don't like physically correcting (with check chain) a 6 month old and prefer to get his behaviours through reward ... but at the same time he knows the basics and I do expect him to sit when he is asked to sit etc. Was interested to see what everyones responses would offer...
