  1. I brought the BARF patties initially when I got my pup a couple of months ago. I brought the patties because he was a pup and I didn't want to risk getting it wrong during his growing stages - and it seems everyone has different ratios and views on what to add. I found the patties became a pain (size wise) when I switched my older boy over to raw as well ... so I started buying Canine Country as they come in lots of 1kg. Both dogs have done extremely well on this and the older boy has never looked better.
  2. Initally it was lots of blankets to snuggle into and teddy ... but now there isn't much room left for teddy or the dog for that matter
  3. My younger GSD boy will play with anyone who will play with him ... but as he is a big boy I prefer he played with dogs he isn't going to break and who won't let him get away with being a complete brat
  4. I will google it as I don't think I have seen them I've just had a look and they don't seem easy to find. I stumbled across mine at a pet shop. I did find one similar, but it has a rake thing. Mine is the smaller one to the right of the photo, without a rake: http://www.petsolutions.com/default.aspx?I...15&SID=NXTG I use an old garden rake cut down (handle was broken at the end anyway) and then I just some of the rake prongs off each side to make it a bit narrower. The scoop is a 5 lire acid bottle cut at an angle and screwed onto an old broom handle. Nothing fancy but does a great job. I managed to find a bit of a photo of it ... if it wasn't for the brat walking past It was taken to show what happens to wood if left unattended for 3 minutes.
  5. Swimming is low impact on the joints so it should be very good for him
  6. I have heard of metho for drying out the area if it is moist ... but I wouldn't want it anywhere near my private areas. Maybe get the vet to take a scraping/swab to find out exactly what type of infection it is and then once they know that they should be able to treat it... It could even be a contact allergy...
  7. I use chain link wire and star picketts around the garden. I used "Get Off My Garden" out the front to stop the the neighbourhood cats from digging up my garden and using it as a toilet ... but I found the ice cubes and sling shot more effective!!!
  8. The boy was unfortunately found deceased - the boy was unable to swim and apparently fell in to the water while playing with his brothers
  9. That was unfortunately a search for a young boy who went missing in flood waters in Wishart recently
  10. And here is my little poser ... it is yellow due to the yellow tarp overhead which is used to provide shade.
  11. The little boy was doing much better this morning and cleaned up his breakfast bowl in no time ... just like normal. I was getting really concerned on Monday morning when I filled up his puppy pool with water and he wasn't interested in playing in it ... given he was such a water baby and normally I can't keep him out of the water long enough to get water in it. I think the best thing I did was put water in his "sleeping" hole - this made it much cooler for him. He played with his "ice bucket" treat and after a bit of a sleep in his hole ... and a decent poop he seemed to brighten up. I didn't find anything abnormal in his poop so it was probably just a combination of heat, tiredness and a bit of upset tummy. He has been jumping around like a nut case tonight and completely back to normal.
  12. My boys absolutely love fish ... dried works well as a treat but they also love it raw.
  13. Maybe something like a gazebo (using shadecloth, polycarb or solid roof) and once the runs are moved you can build a deck underneath ...
  14. The young one is getting walked morning and night while it is still cooler. He gets a short walk to the off-leash park, 15 to 30 min play (with me - not other dogs) and then a 45+ min walk around the streets (it is a circuit we walk). He then gets the same at night. The exceptions to this is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurs morning. These days he gets play time with our other GSD morning and night. He will also get a shorter walk on these days and no off-leash time at the park.
  15. 2 GSD .... one 60kg and the other about 43kg. They are fed raw and cost about $7 or $8 per day for everything (meals, supplements, treats). So that is about $50 per week (give or take a little). I am sure it is the rabbits at $5 each or the fish/turkey necks that tend to push up the price a bit. Chicken necks are only about $2 per day but they don't get them every day
  16. I brought a cheap one from my local IGA and the thing I like about it is the sides are a little stiff. Makes it easy to open and fill.
  17. He is still doing ok - he is loving the ice and playing with that in his pool. He had toileted once so far and has been drinking. My inital fear was a blockage as he tends to find something to chew but thankfully I can't find anything that he seems to have gotten into and chewed - other then the end of the garden hose but I have managed to find all the parts to the plastic fittings which were missing. He has some "recharge" leading up to and after his run (at home) - and was fine yesterday but it could definately be the problem. I brought him home and gave him a cool bath under the garden hose - he loves it when I squirted him with the garden hose (his absolutely favourite game).
  18. I think I saw your dogs. I had the very vocal GSD ... but thankfully he wasn't as vocal as the staffy's I was with a work colleague with her little beige greyhound.
  19. I am really hoping it is just the heat. I have given him fresh water and topped up his little pool. I have even filled up his sleeping holes with water so that should hopefully make them cooler. I have also put a couple blocks of ice in his pool and given him a bath under the garden hose. He is still running around and seems ok ... I have done a full poo scoop so I can tell if he has been to the toilet.
  20. My 9 month old GSD didn't eat his breakfast this morning ... which has me worried big time. He is still running around and appears fairly normal ... I felt his tummy and there is no tenderness or hardness that I can feel.
  21. Sand would be like sandpaper ... and there might still be some on her feet when you get home. Even carpet can rub away the skin (carpet burn ). Did they give you any cream or something to put on her feet? We used PawPaw ointment (red tub or tube at chemist) on our dog's feet when he had sore paws from running around on concrete.
  22. Maybe the beach sand is being a little rough on her feet Does she run around a lot at home or when she is "not being walked"?
  23. Here is my little boy's first bath ... he was sooo tiny at 6.5kg We have our own hydrobath but I definately wouldn't be taking a little pup to a public hydrobath until it is fully vaccinated. Our boy also got bathed in a bucket or in the laundry tub a number of times after walking or sitting in poo...
  24. We started from day one with the dogs on a leash, tell them to sit and wait (something they know from waiting to get their breakfast). I then very slowly start to open the door and if they get up from the sit or move forward then the door is shut again. When the door is open without them making a break for it, I will step through and give them a command to step through the doorway. Eventually I drop the sit and wait and continue with the command to walk through the doorway. It is a slow process but we do the same for every gate and doorway (leading outside) ... even in the car so there is no jumping out or going through the door without permission.
