    Cover Or Not?

My boy only got covered if he was noisy or it was cold.
  2. Uhh wow, that is scary! I responded with only by disposition and only if someone is directly at threat of harm. Size and breed don't make a dog dangerous. My comment at the end was about punishing the irresponsible owner and not the unfortunate animal who had the misfortune of being owned by them...
  3. Maybe also start putting names to objects she brings you ... particularly if they can be useful items ... like the car keys
  4. many Sardog - they have been in contact and I am heading off to their social day on Sunday ... I just hope my boy behaves himself and doesn't go completely silly like he occassionally does when he is over excited
  5. Maybe contact this place - I don't think their link is working properly. Or a place called "Green Harvest" apparently has it - (07) 5435-2699
  6. I had a friend make it for me ... I was going to attempt it but just hadn't got around to it. This is where he normally sleeps ... even when it fills with water during the rain as it sit on top of a gravel pit. He is normally out in the rain and playing in the mud ...
  7. And some more photos ... (sorry for the quality - they were taken on my mobile as I can't find the camera)
  8. This is his new home ... it still needs some carpet in it but i will see how the mud levels go at the moment.
  9. This was the kennel I originally brought ... it was supposed to be "large"
  10. Our rottie had a lump which was suddenly there one day ... it turned out to be an absust (sp?) which we think was caused when a neighbourhood cat got a claw in while he was seeing it off the property. Hopefully everything is all ok ...
  11. I have an XXLarge collapsible crate (wire) for my GSD ... and quite frankly it is heavy and cumbersome to carry any distance. I have seen the 4 wheel trolley dolly … but I am thinking of something like a 2 wheel trolley. It would need to be something that folds up. What do you use?
  12. Maybe leave some other telephone numbers with the kennels (family or close friends) who they can call if needed - preferable someone your dog is very comfortable with. Is there anyone who can go in a take her out for the day or something like that ... maybe on the weekend or something ... day parole
  13. Does anyone know of anyone who trains dogs for "Search and Rescue" work? I am interested in the training for my my 9 month old GSD boy. I know there used to be the "Qld K9 Search and Rescue Group" but they seem to have stopped training. I am on the southside of Brisbane but willing to travel a reasonable distance if needed.
  14. MY boy did his first full run at Kuraby at the last meeting. You just complete a registration form. Scan the form and a copy of your dogs registration papers (if they are registered) and email it in. You just turn up on the day and pay. You will be given a number and then basically you wait until your number is called and then they have a run. How old is your dog? They need to be 6 to 9 months for the puppy runs and over 9 months for the full run. I should be at the next one (7/2/10) with my little GSD boy ... so come up and introduce yourself
  15. I have only ever had boy dogs ... but I have a female cockatiel called Bailey.
  16. I was talking to a woman once who had a shetland pony that used ventolin and a nebuliser (sp?) as it was allergic to hay and dust!!! They had a mask made for it ...
  17. Is Mt Gravatt too far for her to travel? The Cat Clinic specialise in cats so they might be better option then a regular vet.
  18. I found my pup was the same - he only slept when I was laying on the floor beside his crate with my finger inside so he was touching them. This went on for a couple of day. Each day I took him out into the backyard he would stay within about 1/2 metre of me and woudn't leave my side ... over time as his confidence grew he would explore more and more but had to know where I was at all times. Now he doesn't need to be with me but wants to be with me ...
  19. I believe all the cabins are gone ... so it is camping all the way Mystiqview - yep ... and I loved it - maybe I am a little It is much nicer then the heat of summer
  20. Toughen up you two ... it will be lovely brisk mornings with nice crisp grass under your feet. I love the cold Brindle ... I could swap you for my brat. I will have greyhounds in my tent and you can have him ... hope you don't mind him sitting on your head or anything like that
  21. How is Sally doing with her walks now? Hope both of you are doing better. I had similar problems with a woman who had two little fluffy / terrier type things that she often walked off-leash. Normally I got between her dogs and mine and defended them with a stick or my foot. One particular day my then pup was attacked the day before when another dog rushed at him and repeatedly attacked him (thankfully no damage) ... so when I was walking him the following day and her dogs came rushing at my boy I just lost the plot. I yelled at the woman to get her dog under control and on a leash. When I heard the "they are friendly" as they were snarling and lunging at my boy that I let her have it. Not so politely I told her that if I ever see them off-leash again they would be reported as dangerous dogs.
  22. Yes it is possible to fail puppy pre-school ... my little boy did. It was mainly because he barked at the instructor when she came too close to us while he wasn't looking ... actually I don't think he liked her much at all. Thankfully the puppy pre-school I took my boy had the room to be able to move away from other dogs/people if there was a problem. Mind you I spent most of the classes walking my boy as he was so excited to see all the other dogs. One thing I liked about the school was there was no off-leash play time and only calm introducing of the pups.
  23. I have two GSD's (both on the very big side) and we have a little backyard (with a pool taking up a portion of the yard). My boys don't get a lot of exercise in the yard (other then general play time) so the younger one is walked twice a day for about an hour each walk. He also get off-leash time at the local off-leash park (with no other dogs around) for anywhere from 15 minutes to 30 minutes, swimming once a week and training sessions every day. The older boy goes to work with my brother (he is a security dog) so he gets all his exercise on the job which can include foot patrols for the entire 12 hour shift. On his days off (if he gets them) then he generally sleeps or leads the puppy astray and teaches him how to get in trouble (not that he needs any help)
  24. MY GSD boy has the same issues ... other dogs are play object to him. I have found since starting the "Really Reliable Recall" training with him that I can get his attention more easierly and he has calmed down a lot. He still has silly moments but if saying his name doesn't turn his attention back to me then I walk briskly in different directions turning left, right, doing about turns etc so he is forced to focus on me and pay attention ... and then he tends to behave himself.
  25. I have booked as well ... and we are going to try camping
