  1. What sort of mince meat are you feeding?
  2. When my older boy was a little puppy I came outside to see what was wrong (he yelped and cried) and find he was crunching on a large crayfish that used to live in our fish pond. I think he went swimming and the crayfish bit him so he got even. Did she end up eating it all? My boy crunched his up completely and went looking for seconds ....
  3. I put the collar on my GSD pup the moment I got him out of the crate off the airplane. I also put a very light lead (one of the kitten ones) and let him drag that around inside ... and occassionally putting a little tension on it. He got used to it being on a leash really quickly as he saw having a leash on as fun and playtime. I left his collar on him fulltime until recently (changing for growth of course) as my dogs don't wear collars at home ... and I found as he is constantly in and out of water and mud, the collar was starting to rub on his neck a bit.
  4. I feed chicken necks, chicken wings, chicken frames, rabbit, brisket bones, whole fish. Normally the packaging said to feed x amount of patties with the same amount of bones - these need to be digestible bones. Basically bones your dog will completely eat ... so I find the above better because they are eaten fully. Stuff like roo tails and marrow bones are more recreational bones (for my boys) ... they chew on them but they are not fully eaten.
  5. I once got told my our vet that my older GSD needed to drop about 10kg (she read his weight on his chart) ... until she actually looked at him and then she told me he needed to add a couple of kilo's as he was too thin (she had felt his body shape under his fluffy freshly bathed coat).
  6. I started by GSD pup on the BARF patties when I got him ... I was going to feed him on Royal Canin or Artimas but he definately preferred the BARF. As he got bigger and was eating more .... and I switched my older boy to BARF ... I found it easier to buy Canine Country as it came in a 1kg roll.
  7. That's horrible. Maybe ... but I was sick of having to deal with the cat shit in my gardens, the mulch spread everywhere, the digging up of my plants, the screaming cat fights in my front yard and the dogs barking at them when they sit on the top of the fence. I had tried a number of expensive "repellents" that did absolutely nothing ... along with a number of other things before I resorted to this and it only took a couple of good shots and they haven't come back again ...
  8. You might find he enjoys having his feet massaged ... My GSD boy only has to see the tube and he runs to his bed and rolls on his back with his feet up waiting for his foot rub ... too bad it if isn't for him or for another part of his body :D
  9. Ice cubes (evidence melts) and a sling shot ....
  10. I have found the "what else can you expect when your dog is on a leash" is the attitude of a number of dog owners. I had a similar situation when I had my young boy on a leash while we were using the agility equipment in a fenced off-leash area. He was snarled and nipped at by another dog and I had to step in a push the other dog away with my foot. Other owner wasn't happy but I didn't particularly care - I was more interested in protecting my boy. Sorry you had to deal with a nasty owner ...
  11. Oops ... not a good day hey That sounds almost as good as me when my dog broken his sit/stay (no leash on) before he was about to hop in the back of my brothers car. I yelled out his name to call him back ... only to remember I have absolutely no voice and his name comes out as a tiny squeak ... and then run out to grab him (trying to call him name) and then again trying to apologise to some poor woman who was walking past at the time with her dog only have nothing at all come out at this time. My boy just wanted to say hello but he definitely should not have left his sit/stay.
  12. I went to an obedience club where all dog had to be on check chains ... even the young dogs. I hate check chains and didn't like using them ... but have no ojections to others using them. Every dog is different and there is no one method that will work with every dog. Some dogs work well with positive only while others need some level of correction. I am used to strong willed and high drive dogs ... so I prefer to use a prong on my dogs and find it much gentler on the dog then a check chain.
  13. I have seperated my backyard into 2 yards (fence down the middle) ... so when I leave they usually get a bone or something tasty.
  14. My boy loves water, rain and mud ... it is guaranteed that if it isn't raining he will make his own mud by spreading the water from his water bowl. Basically every time I have gone outside in the last 2 days … both dogs have been covered from head to toe in mud or soaking wet.
  15. My older boy is part cow ... he is always eating grass. Now if I could just get him to do it around the edges a bit more I wouldn't have to struggle with the whipper snipper and do the edges of the lawn. Younger boy tend to eat wood ... he has a stolen hard wood tomato stakes out of the garden bed and chewed them up. He is also obsessed with plastic ... loves chewing up his little kiddie pool. He has now killed number 3!!!!
  16. I definately want to see some new photos ... the puppy photos of Marnie were extremely cute
  17. I find it hard Ms Moloney was having sleepless nights worrying about the pup ...
  18. My older boy loves ice. A lot of the sites they work at have ice machines and our boy will pick up his water bowl and sit beside the machine ... sooking until my brother fills his bowl up with ice. He then crunches it until it is all gone and then take his bowl back to the ice machine for another refill. He gets very upset when they are on a site without the ice machine ...
  19. I don't use shampoo on my dogs so I can't comment ... but I use the Fido's Herbal and Fre-Itch rinses and never had any problems at all.
  20. I give my boys their chicken necks as a frozen block ... so they have to chew it. They also get chicken wings, turkey necks, whole fish (gutted & scaled), rabbit (skinned and gutted), kangaroo tails, brisket bones, lamb flaps and chicken frames.
  21. With that innocent little face ... how could she possibly be anything other then a perfect little angel ... :D
  22. I use minced chicken carcasses/frames as part of a meat and vege mix ... but some minced chicken can contain a lot of skin and fat. My boys also love the chicken frames/carcasses whole to munch on :D
  23. I brought a tubular tracking line from Canine Outfitters. It looks flat but it is a tube so it is super strong. It is lovely and smooth on the hands (wet or dry) and even with a strong dog pulling I don't need to wear gloves and it doesn't burn.
  24. I has the same for the first couple of days or so ... I slept on the floor beside the crate with my fingers through the side of the crate. After about 4 or 5 days I found I could sleep in my bed if the crate was immediately beside the bed and I had my hand close to the crate. Over time I could slowly move the crate towards the doorway and then eventually out into the lounge room. It is hard but he should eventually settle ... it is a case of who will give in first
  25. There was a case ages ago about a dog who was in a fully secure yard, elderly lady was walking by, dog barks, lady gets a fright, falls over and hurts her hip ... dog is declared dangerous. If you dog chases the ducks as the local park ... it can be declared dangerous. I think they should have different levels of "dangerous" ... human agressive then have it muzzled and secure run, dog agressive then under effective control when walked and maybe muzzled (depends if the owner can control it), other animal aggressive then it needs to be under effective control at all times.
