  1. You might need to order it from some chemists ... just ask them. Online can be cheaper option ...
  2. Glad she is doing a little better. You could maybe try her on a little chicken mince with some olive oil to help move her along. Dry food tends to absorb a lot of moisture so she probably need the fluids to keep things moving. My boys think everything is a food source and constantly sample it to double check ... our oldest used to eat rocks as a pup. At least the youngest only has an obsession with water and plastic ... ;) It was always interesting to see what came out the other end ... and trying to work out what it was and if it had all come out. My vet often said most things come out the other end within 3 days ... if they aren't out by then they are usually not coming out without some help.
  3. She is probably just overfull and it might take a while for things to get moving. I definately wouldn't be giving her another meal until she is back to normal. She has probably got a very big tummy ache. If she is acting pretty normally and is active - I wouldn't stress too much (ok - I probably would but don't ) Just keep an eye on her and make sure she is still drinking - if anything changes then take her straight to the vet. Also - do check around the house to make sure she hasn't chewed up anything that could cause a blockage ... Hope she feels better soon ...
  4. My guys get Ester C - it was recommended years ago by a rottie breeder who swore by it and guaranteed all their dogs against hip problems if they were given a dose daily. Not sure how accurate that is but the guys get 1/2 a teaspoon every morning - they are feed raw.
  5. The boy has had a reasonably good day. He is still getting tired easierly and sleeping lots more than normal but is moving around much better. I am restricting his running around so he doesn't tired himself out too much ... poor baby is not happy about it.
  6. Definately give the papaw ointment a go - we always have a tube handy. We find the tubs always end up full of dog hair :D
  7. Thanks Ams - I will check them out. He is brighter and happier tonight but I didn't want to let him overdo anything. He is still unbalanced and tentative on uneven surfaces but better then he was this morning. Maybe another day or two of rest might ...
  8. Wait until they learn to open the crate door like my little one did. I woke up one morning to find him nibbling on my fingers and the crate door wide open. I have to use a clip on the door now so he doesn't open it by himself....
  9. Apart from an allergic reaction, the only other thing I can think of is a spider bite ...
  10. After a sleepless night I took him to the vet this morning and as usual - the vet was useless. He doesn't believe it has anything to do with Repel-X even though this is the only thing that was any different in the last week (they have left the property since the 4th of March). He gave him an injection of Metacam as the vet seems to indicate it might be a soft tissue injury ... even indicating I should get his hips x-rayed. The vet couldn't identify any sore spots and his reflexes are all normal. While he isn't as bad as he was on Sunday - he is still not better. His feet are still a little swollen/puffy and he is sleeping a lot more then normal. He is slow getting up but walks ok when he is up as long as the surface is not rough (bitumen road, peddled surface) - this seems to cause him to walk slowly and a bit unbalanced. Soft lino, smooth concrete etc seems to be much better. He is eating, drinking and toileting with no problems. I have put him in his side of the yard for the day which is mainly grass - which he seems to be able to walk ok on. I am hoping for some improvement when I get home this afternoon but so far the reports I have received from a friend who is keeping an eye on him - he is still the same as when I left this morning.
  11. When I was crate/toilet training my youngest ... he was a very vocal pup so sometime it was a whine for "I need toilet" and other times it was just him having a conversation with me. I missed his "I need to toilet" whine twice and he doesn't think the crate is a place to toilet. Don't be too hard on yourself
  12. I have been tossing up with the trip to emergency ... but at the same time he is not getting any worse and it hasn't stopped him from rushing out to the back yard to sort out the possums. I guess I will keep monitoring him for tonight and see how he is in the morning - and take him to his regular vet in the morning ... unless of course he gets worse.
  13. There is no redness or visable injuries - the pads are just puffy. He isn't chewing or licking them. His legs and joints are not swollen or puffy. He hasn't been out of the yard today so he hasn't walked on anything different. The poor baby is just much quieter then normal ... I have never seen him laying around so much as he has been. :D
  14. Ok - he is being really clingy and is currently sleeping on the back steps. I went out to hang some washing out in the carport and he walked out there ok. He has also run out to check out the possum our other dog was barking at. He just became hesitant when it came to stepping back onto the back veranda (which is pebbled and a bit rough on the feet) - it seems like his paws were sensitive. He doesn't seem to be getting any worse ...
  15. My youngest was playing a little rough with our older boy this morning and ended up with a slight limp in his back leg. It is not uncommon for rough play to end up with a bruise or two so I didn't worry too much about it. With the rain and fly invasion ... I applied some Cetrigen on their ears (both have fly bites on their ears) and gave both dogs a light spray with Repel-X this morning to try to keep the flies away. He was bathed this afternoon so he is covered for ticks and fleas. A little while ago I went outside and the youngest was a little slow getting off the bed. His front paws look a little swollen and he seems to have some weakness in the back legs. If you touch him back legs or hips he sits. He looks a little tucked up but there is no hardness in his tummy area and there doesn't seem to be any sore spots that I can find. He is walking but seems a little hesitant. He is still eating, drinking and toileting. His breathing is normal. I doesn't really have the money to rush him to emergency but will if he deteriorates in any way I will … or should I take him now? Any ideas on what is causing this? I am wondering if it is some allergy to one of the sprays...
  16. I will pack them up and send them back to you Erny. I seriously think they must have collected a lot of friends of the way up to sunny Brisbane. I would have thought all the wind would have blown them away but it seems my place must be a perfect place for them to hide from the wind.
  17. My backyard is absolutely thick with flies. I didn't notice them before this morning when I went out to feed the boys. I gave them their bones (seperate sides of the yard) and then came back a few moments later to find the youngest absolutely covered in flies. By this afternoon both have crusty ears from the flies ... I have sprayed the ears with that purple stuff with insect repellant but they flies are still all over them. I have brought about 8 fly traps and have just set them up around the yard. Even though it will take about 24 hours before they really start working .... they already contain about 3 dozen flies each. I poop scoop twice a day so I can't really understand why I have so many. Is anyone else getting the invasion or am I just the lucky one?
  18. I took my youngest to puppy pre-school for socialisation around other dogs. From day one he was considered a problem as he just doesn't sit still - he just wanted to play and when I had him sitting still he was very vocal. One night I had him focusing on me (because he was over excited about the other puppies) and the instructor came up behind him giving him a start which caused him to turn and bark at her. I asked him to sit and then praised him ... she thought I should have corrected him for barking at her instead of telling him he was a good boy Another night he went off at some young men who were acting suspect around some car in the carpark beside us. I praised him and rewarded for his watching and alerting ... instructor thought I should have been correcting this sort of behaviour. She had been told he was going to be a security dog so I wasn't going to correct him for barking at someone. Needless to say we failed puppy pre-school and didn't get an attendance certificate like the other puppies.
  19. I was given the book Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog (by Wendy Volhard and Karry Brown) and found it very interesting. It covers: How to read commercial dog food labels and understand what they really mean The Natural Diet and how to prepare it Raising puppies and caring for older dogs What supplements are all about How to asses vaccinations and lab tests Kinesiology Homeopathy The Five-Element Theory of traditional Chinese medicine and much more.... Might be worth a read
  20. I have a folding water bowl (brought from the local IGA). I have also taught my boys to drink from a water bottle - I had 2 police officers laughing at me when I was pulled up at a set of lights and I was holding the water bottle over the back to give the boy a drink. It looked like he was sucking on a baby bottle. I use the folding water bowl for longer walks such as bush walking etc so they can have a decent drink and usually just use the water bottle for a quick drink to wet the mouth etc.
  21. I loved the message behind it ... it applies to all dogs.
  22. This was an email I received ... and I thought I should share it for those who haven't already seen it. http://www.southeuclidpolice.com/K-9Presentation.html
  23. It is a shame you didn't get her details ... I think the ideal solution would be a dog lover who lives close by who can't have a dog (living in a rental or unit etc) but has the time and energy to help out with obedience and exercise. That way they would both get the best out of the arrangements.
  24. I was at Lotsa Pet Food at Woodridge this morning buying more dog food and they have some tartan collars - they are buckle up ones but there is a few different collars with matching leashes.
