  1. To remove the fleas you will need to treat more then just the cat. You will need to do a complete elimination ... and repeat it a couple of times to get rid of any eggs that may hatch later. I would look at doing a flea bomb in the house and any rooms the cat accesses, spray all the yard with something like Malawash, wash all the bedding with a flea treatment and hot water as well as treat the cat. My mum's dog had a flea problem ... and she found Innovation was the old thing that helped - not sure if there is a cat variety .... Spot on treatments or sprays are evenutally licked off by the cat during the cleaning process ... so do be a bit careful about what you use ... maybe a flea collar might help ...
  2. I would be interest to know the age of the breeder ... this was something done many years ago in the country. The neighbour down the back of my parents place (since pass away) did the exhaust thing to a couple of litters of kittens (born to strays that were dumped at their place) ... at least 3 litters that I know of. Don't agree with the process and do agree they should throw the book at him ... in this day and age there is no excuse for not seeking property veterinary care for the animals.
  3. I am thinking it must be the weather or something ... normally I can leave the back door open (not something I try with the front door open though) and neither of my dogs will put one foot inside without being invited ... My boys have been taught not to go through a gate without being invited ... in order to avoid these types of disasters ... but the youngest seems to have completely forgotten the rules today.
  4. I had a friend who was interested but would like to have the dogs there so she could practice hands-on ... they are greyhounds so TTouch seems to works well with them Might get her to call Jane to double check ...
  5. I have had 3 near misses today ... all thankfully have turned out ok. This morning I went over to a friends place to take their dog for a walk. I decided to take him the couple of blocks to the off-leash area. Every thing was find until we had just crossed the busy main road to get over to the off-leash park ... when the clip came undo on the leash. Not sure exactly what happened but one minute he was on the lead and then next he was running off down the side of the main road (opposite direction to the off-leash park). This dog doesn't have very good recall so I knew calling him wasn't going to really help ... for some crazy reason I yelled his name and then run off through the park to the off-leash area ... and thankfully he followed me into the park. Disaster 1 avoided ... After that morning I come home to my 2 ...I left the front door open as I was carrying stuff inside from the car. I quickly put the stuff away and was about to head out again when I was about to close up the back sliding door (have to open the screen door to close the glass door) ... when the phone rang. I closed the screen door again and picked up the phone. Next minute the screen door is knocked off the runners and the youngest charged through the house and out the front door. I yelled his name, dropped the phone and charged out the front door after him ... only to find him sitting in the back of the still open car waiting for a ride!!!! Thankfully I have an array of leads in the back of the car so he is quickly secured and walked back inside. Disaster 2 avoided .... Just a little while ago ... I was doing some work on the "lawn" side of the yard so the dogs were on the other side of the yard with the side gate closed. I had given my lemon tree a serious pruning earlier so I was dragging branches out to the front yard and bringing bags of top soil back with me to the back yard. I had about 3 branches left so I grabbed all three and were juggling them a bit as I was trying to get them up the side of the house through the side gate ... just as I got to the front yard ... the youngest came charging past me and started doing zooming around the front yard (unfenced front yard!!!!). I dropped the branches and called his name .... actually I called him the wrong name (instead I yelled out our older dogs name) and then turned back towards the side gate (to see the older dog coming running towards me also) ... So I whistled and called "lets go" ... thankfully both come zooming back into the yard after me and then quickly disappeared back into the yard allowing me to quickly close the side gate. They must have jumped up against gate locking them on their side of the yard and it has come undone ... normally I put a clip on the gate to make sure it doesn't come open but I didn't this time. Disaster 3 avoided ... time for a stiff drink now !!!!
  6. Are dogs allowed? For some reason I thought it was no dogs ....
  7. Here ya go - black and white GSDs But the guy down the road told me breeding his white female with my black male would produce black and white puppies ... he didn't say they would be one or the other. I love Border Collies ... they look soo pretty but I wanted a vicious guard dog ...
  8. We use Fido's Fre-Itch Rinse (or the Herbal version) in our hydrobath at home ... we don't use any shampoo just the rinse. It is a flea treatment that is supposed to last 1-2 weeks ... When the dogs were working we used to bath them weekly as they built up a lot of grime on their skin ...
  9. You can give them the whole egg (shell and all) ... maybe lightly crack the shell if they don't know what to do with the whole egg (or know how to open it themselves). Or you can just crack the egg over their breakfast - my guys don't particularly like the shell so they tend to spit it out for me to walk on ... so they just get the egg over their mince. Not overly sure on the correct amount per week - my guys get 2 or 3 each a week ...
  10. I am going ... decided I wanted to have a bit of a holiday and booked a room in Caboolture so I don't have to drive home Saturday night
  11. How is this for a straight back GSD
  12. My boys have just wolfed down a whole frozen fish each for their dinner tonight ... they always start crunching on the head - this is another of their favourites They had some chicken frames for breakfast this morning.
  13. Tonight was one of those nights where I do a bit of a clean out of the fridge/freezer ... and this is the boys favourite nights. They ended up with lots of little bits ... so in their bowl tonight there was some Canine Country (BARF) mince, lamb flap, couple chicken necks, pork chop, steak, fish head, some left over little mince meatballs (made from pork, lamb, turkey and chicken mince - used as training treats), eggs, sardines, yoghurt, mashed potato and some steamed veges. They look at their bowls drooling ... but not sure what to eat first. I think it all looks revolting in their bowl all mixed up ... but they absolutely love it ;) So ... what did your dogs get for dinner tonight ...
  14. I might believe that if the petshop staff actually knew anything about the breeds they are selling people ...
  15. I had a similar situation with our rottie when I had a particular male visitor ... the dog hated him and made it extremely clear. I ended a friendship with this guy because of the dogs reaction and have never regretted it for one moment - all my dogs have been good judges of character. Having said that ... I would have an issue if the dog didn't back off when I asked him too and do agree about getting some professional assistance. Just curious ... but was Kuma's behaviour like this from the beginning or just built up over time? Also - has Dupree been left alone with Kuma prior to this occurring?
  16. My youngest got 3 needles ... he did become unwell after I gave him his second needle and I did toss up about getting the third needle ... but with parvo bad in our area I decided it was safer with then without. He has now had his first booster 12 months later and I think I will titre from now on and only vaccinate when I need to.
  17. What do the paws smell like? Maybe wash them in some malaseb medicated shampoo if they are smelling a bit funky ...
  18. she is beautiful ... sure you don't want to swap
  19. If you see Rod's photo's from Sunday you would definately think he was crazy ...
  20. I found rice/chicken didn't really help my boy when he had the runs for the first week after I got him ... it was steamed chicken and pumpkin that made the difference. Hope your pup is feeling better soon ...
  21. Check out the Australian Veterinary Association website - in June 2009 the AVA adopted a new policy on vaccination of dogs and cats to reflect the latest scientific literature recommending less frequent vaccination for adult cats and dogs ... Linky They also provide a list of vets who follow their guidelines/protocols ...
  22. Great pics! Does Rod take photos at every meet? Hoping to bring my boy along to the next one Rod takes a number of photo's every race (but not usually every dog) ... it is best to introduce yourself to him and ask if he can take some of your dog running.
  23. Your two were beautiful ... swap you for mine
  24. I got annoyed with the show - particularly after the DNA test came back on the pup (staffy x whippet) and the mother was going on about how the kids friends could now come over and she didn't have to worry about the pup getting nasty and attacking them!!!! WTF
