  1. I used concrete laundry tubs (he smashed up one but gave up on the second one) ... until my youngest grew out of the "must destroy water container" stage ... now he just renovates the yard
  2. Sweet Bliss All this thinking and now my brain hurts ... I am going to bed
  3. sweet success Saint Blaise - was a physician who healed humans and animals.
  4. I feed chicken feet as I heard they are a natural source of glucosamine ... and the boys love them.
  5. Popularity shouldn't come into it ... the dog should never have been allowed to rush at anyone particularly given it is blind and "protective" - a good recipe for a bite to occur - it should have been under effective control and not allowed to "rush" at anyone.
  6. Even if he was a legit breeder - that is just far too many dogs. You can't exercise, socialised and work with that many dogs. They would have to spend significant amounts of time in kennels without human contact ... it just isn't healthy.
  7. I brought a concrete barrel look planter (which holds about 25 to 30 litres) from a local garden store ... it came with the hole already plugged otherwise I you can just plug it. The dogs were destroyed all other water bowls and this works brilliantly ... and it keeps the water cooler in summer.
  8. I would be freaking out too ... Maybe call the DPI on 13 25 23 - explain the situation to them and ask for the bat to be tested.
  9. In the event of something happening to me my younger brother will get the dogs ... but my mum wants our older boy - she would take the youngest but I think he is too spirited for her. My mum would take my two cockatiels if she had too but they will probably go to a friend who has a massive avairy. We have had an evacuation in our area before (just not involving our house) so I have given this a fair bit of thought and have set things up so I can grab stuff on the way out the door. If we had to evacuate for a couple of days - we would head to my parents place. The only problem I would have would be taking the birds because I haven't got a "travel" cage for them yet ... but I have some storage baskets I could cable tie together to use in an emergency. Not ideal but definately ok in an emergency. During the evacuation in our area - there was a family who had evacuated ... but forgot to take their 9 weeks old pup with them!!! The police had to go back into the area to collect the pup - I remember thinking I would have grabbed all the animals but forgotten to wake up my brother.
  10. With so many people moving or situations changing and having to give up their animals ... I often wonder what plans people have in place to care for their animals in the even of something happening to them. If you where killed or seriously injured and couldn't care for your dogs - do you have plans in place for the care of your animals? If you are renting - what plans do you have in place if your current rental becomes unavailable and you can't immediately find a place that will allow you to have your animals with you? If you needed to evacuate your house for a period of time (days or weeks) - do you know what you are going to do with your animals?
  11. Size shouldn't come into it when a dog is declared a menace ... it should be judged on the actions - "dog ran towards her growling and snapping at her legs on the stairs at her block of units" is menacing behaviour. I have only ever been bitten by small "friendly" dogs ... ;)
  12. Where exactly are you? Animal Options are at 8/29 Blanck Street, Ormeau (near Yatala) which might be a bit too far for you but Rowan is absolutely fantastic. Rowan really helped with my older boys bladder issues.
  13. My dogs are not the slighted bit destructive ... :D Ok ... maybe just a little - easier to post a link then photo's http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/206050-who-do-you-think-is-the-guilty-one/ ... with update on post 25!!!
  14. I usually find the "feeding guide" is usually way too much - so definately start at the lowest end and don't forget to cut it down a bit if you are feeding extras such as training treats.
  15. Yep - my boys can't read a use-by date ... and usually they get the bit of meat in the tray that has spent a day or two in the fridge. If it was slimy and smelly then I don't ... I usually freeze and toss in the bin on bin day ... not that the dogs would care but I can't tolerate the gas coming out the other end
  16. Definately look at a food change. Even though the brand may is considered "Premium" ... some dogs just don't tolerate some foods. I had to switch my dogs from one "premium" brand to another because they just didn't do well on that food. What are you feeding now? Maybe someone would suggest something else on a similar level. I used to feed Eukanuba, then went to Royal Cain before going to Raw ... now I feed a combination of Raw and Canidae (PureSea - Grain Free) which my boys love.
  17. I have a pink Eukanuba bin from many years ... I keep looking around for a new bin and often see the "free" bins that go with bags of dry food as they are the perfect size. But I never want to buy the bag of food just to get the bin (usually a brand I don't use) and they won't sell (or give) them to me.
  18. Another for Comfortis ... our boys don't normally have fleas but occassionly they will pick up a few and start scratchings. Since being on Comfortis - absolutely no fleas
  19. Good luck ... my almost 9 year old still chews ... but he has a very extensive range of squeaky chew toys which are his favourites
  20. Sorry about that - the link insert thing doesn't work properly for me on this computer. I have fixed the links now.
  21. When my youngest boy came to me ... he was microchipped by his breeder. It wasn't until recently that I had discovered that while he was physically microchipped - his microchip was never actually registered with any organisation. So even if he was found and scanned - it was completely pointless being microchipped. I had approached my vet about getting his microchip registered ... but they didn't seem to think they could actually do it because they hadn't microchipped him (something about a sticker needed to be added to the form). It was just today that I discovered http://www.aar.org.au - where I could actually register my boy's microchip myself - so he is now registered and it was done instantly. So - if you are not 100 percent certain your dog's microchip is registered - please double check. You can check if your dogs microchip number is registered here
  22. I guess they have to prove the dog killed the cat ... at my place there probably wouldn't be a body (or at least very much of it left) ;)
