While puppy classes are good ... you really need to see where the classes are being run. I have seen puppies as young as 9 week old at a local park having a puppy pre-school class

If she likes yoghurt or eggs - maybe mix a little of mince in with this and then build up the amount over time ... but if she would prefer to chew on a chunk of meat or a meaty bone that would probably be better for her teeth at least.

Hope she is feeling better soon and isn't anything too serious.

It is a lot of work but not completely impossible - depends on your home situation and the time you have available ;)

A halti would work fine for some dogs ... but when my boy had one on what he does is turns towards me and pulls backwards and shakes his head. A halti caused massive welts across his nose when he did this and then of course he slips out of the halti - so it is not effective for him.

I have a dog that walks beautifully on a lead about 95% of the time ... but then at some point his high prey drive kicks in and he gets over excited and completely forgets there is anyone on the end of his leash and without the prong I would be on my ass or dragged across the road in seconds. One slight pop on the prong and its like ... oh right - I am on a lead so I can't run across and play with that person/dog/cat etc.

Can you put the crate beside the bed so she is near you? When we got our last pup I spent the first night on the lounge room floor beside the crate and then moved him into the bedroom at night and put my fingers through the side of the crate and just slowly moved him further and further away until he eventually could sleep in the lounge room by himself.

I support an individuals right to make an informed decision and choose the training method that suits their dog ...

I am sure something bad can be said about every collar and harness ... do we ban the lot or look at better education and training?

My yard is fenced down the middle ... one side is grass and nice garden ... the other is holes and seriously pruned plants Each day the boys get grass time and that is our special play time ...

Depends on the size of the pup and how they eat. For my boy I froze two or three together and fed those ... otherwise he inhaled them. You want to encourage chewing rather then swallowing ...

I have never had an issue with deliveries in Brisbane. I specify where to leave it (because I am at work) and never had a problem. I actually had the delivery guy ring me one day ... because I had asked for the food to be put in the back of my brother's vehicle (4X4 with canopy) ... but when he turned up the vehicle wasn't there. I had forgotten my brother was going away ... so he asked if it was ok to leave it with a neighbour or did I want him to come back that evening when I got home.

Ages ago I saw a house with a large enclosed sunroom type room with individual pens along one wall ... the gates opened up and then pushed back down the side so they could be left open for individual bedrooms for the dogs or they could be closed in like crates/pens. The whole area was able to be hosed out.

I have a little hatch back ... so I use the baby seat anchor point and a double ended lead. The cheapest lead is the blue and white waterski cord (it comes in two sizes - this is the bigger of the two) available in hardware stores and 2 decent clips - it is easy to do and can be made to any length - this is a photo of a longer one I made.

I had a dog that I was unable to walk in public at all by the time he was 12 months old. We got him at 4 months and worked on his training every day but after a couple of experiences with off-leash dogs attacking him - he started wanting to get in first. We tried to distance work and build up to getting closer ... but basically I couldn't even get out of my front yard without him going mental and pulling like a freight train. I ended up never walking him because if he reacted then I had no chance of holding him back and I was worried he would attack another animal (or even a person) and would end up getting destroyed. What a miserable life he had with barely leaving our yard twice a week. I got introduced to a prong collar and my initial reaction was - NO WAY!!!! But I was told to try it so I put it on my leg and gave a correction ... and then a harder correction because I couldn't believe it didn't hurt. I then tried the same correct with a check chain and the pain was unbelievable ... I had massive black bruises almost instantly (I bruise easierly). A dog that spent most of his time in the backyard then got to experience and enjoy walks around the block again. I could take him down to the local park and work on building up his tolerance of other dogs and get him focusing on my rather then going into melt down at the sight of another dog. I was not stressing at the sight of another dog (because I was confident I could now handle him) and transferring that stress to him. I agree that a prong collar shouldn’t be used on some dogs – but after working with a high prey drive dog in full on meltdown – I wouldn’t use anything else. My younger boy now – while he is absolutely perfect at home – he tends to get a bit reactive now that his boy bits have kicked in. I initially had him in a flat collar but he kept slipping out of the collar no matter how tight it was … we moved to a limited slip collar … but they left welts on his neck from the nylon rubbing when he pulled. When his focus was on something – the person at the other end of the leash didn’t exist. I needed something to remind him I was on the lead – so I tried the check chain. Unfortunately he was getting into the habit of pulling and the check chain was useless because I couldn’t hold him back and effectively correct him on the chain. No-pull harnesses left bald patches and red spots on his skin from the pulling. After attending an obedience club we moved onto the head halti – this was an absolute disaster. If there was no-one around then he walked nicely on it …but as soon as he focused was on something (he goes from 0 to 100 in micro seconds) and he didn’t want to be by my side he would turn towards me and twist and shake his head trying to get out of the halti (or any restraint for that matter) … which resulted in a huge welt across his nose in seconds. We then put him on a prong collar … and he has had no further injuries or bald patches caused by pulling and rubbing of collars etc. The biggest problem we then had was finding an obedience club to go to where the prong was accepted and where we could work on his socialisation … which thankfully we have now found. We are currently working on clicker training but I still use the prong – and he certainly doesn’t object to it.

Betadine is our preference here for face wounds. Cetrigen (Antibacterial Wound Spray) is also used but mainly if there is flys etc around. Poor baby - nose looks awful but a gentle bathe in warm water might help keep it clean without adding anything to the wound if you are heading off to the vet. Otherwise warm salty water and Betadine should help.

I have tried ordering through topbuy ... but the order has failed atleast 3 times. Now I don't know if I am going to get 3 of the same order or nothing ...

Maybe teach your dog to shake outside before coming inside ... maybe that might drop some of it off before they enter the house. I started with my older boy when he would get a bath ... wait until he started to shake and put a hand signal / word to it and reward. It didn't take him too long to work it out - I did it so I didn't end up drenched when they were bathed.

I used to put my boy on a light leash the moment I opened the crate and would leave that on him ... never giving him to opportunity to run away from me. If he was having outside play time (after his toilet break) then he was allowed off leash but it would go back on when I was heading inside with him. If he didn't come up to me so I could clip on the lead then he was left outside and I went inside - he quickly worked out if he wants to be with me then he needs the leash inside. My boy is also vocal so going into the crate also included a tasty treat such a chicken neck or something so he had no issues with going inside it.
