  1. Just after some advice here. My Kaiser focuses on anything and everything except for ME! If I could somehow channel the amount of concentration and focus he has for his footy on to me he'd be a brilliant! I have started to teach him to make eye contact with me using chunks of polony and that is going very well. Is there anything els i could do/use?? Jean
  2. Dont know what advice to give ya. Hope things settle down for you.
  3. Hi :D I too have a 16 month old GSD, Kaiser. He gets way over excited when other dogs are around and doesnt really listen to me at all! He is a beautifully behaved boy at home though. Perfect angel!! I have found that the only way it worked for me is to go to training with other dogs. I've only been a couple of times, but it really helps. There was great improvement even after the first lesson. I am trying to teach him to make eye contact with me. Maybe this will help with your girl too?? I'm not an expert so I cant offer much other than that!
  4. My boy Kaiser was sold to me with a 6 week puppy insurance with Pet Plan, I continued on when that expired. Since he was covered from a wee liddle pup with no reported health probs the insurance covers pretty much everything. You dont have to pay a specific breed excess with Pet Plan. I have Kaiser and Mya on Pet Plan. I think around $65.00 per month in total. I think it is well worth it
  5. Good to hear she's improving! Kaiser had one of those collars on when he had an operation to remove grass seeds in his skin. He kept bashing into the doorway. He never learned to walk through the MIDDLE, he always walked to one side. I had to hold it together with electrical tape towards the end!
  6. If its clearing up it must be a good sign Hope she gets better asap!
  7. Poor Gypsy I'd take her to the vet just incase. Mya was scratching her eye and it became a little swollen. I kept it clean for a few days and it cleared up but i took her to the vet anyway. They checked to make sure her tearducts werent blocked and gave me a cream just incase. Give her extra cuddles from us please? She's a lovely girl

    Goodbye sweet boy....
  9. I take mine to South Street Vet in O'Connor. I know a handful of other DOLers do as well. They run a great puppy class, are friendly and caring. They remember me and remember Kaiser from puppy school even though he is now nearly 15 months old My favourite vet has left, he moved interstate, but the staff are still great. They're not open on Sundays. Another one is Melville Animal Hospital in Melville. Its on Rome rd which is off Leach hwy. Close to where the school and car dealers are. The vets there are WONDERFUL and they are open on Sundays. Both are great in that they dont push you to buy products or anything like that and they genuinely care about the animals. :D
  10. Oh no!! Poor Darling! Fingers and paws (x 4 dogs here) that Gypsy will be okay
  11. Hope Jyra is okay. I'd get them checked out asap - i am a worrier and unless i get these things checked out I'll be stressed out about them. Let us know how it goes with Jyra PJ
  12. Thanks StaceyB I get them chicken frames from lennards at Pheonix. I think last time I got around 32 frames for about 8 bucks :p
  13. Starting F/T Uni I also had this problem I fed my GSD Royal Canin GSD Jr I fed My mutt Royal Canin Labrador Adult I have swapped them over to Bonnie puppy and adult. I'd prefer to buy RC, but money can be a problem when your living away from home and studying I also add in Sardines, chicken frames, tuna, plain natural set yoghurt, eggs and any cheapo meat from the meat section in the supermarket. Usually lamb off cuts and offal. They've been on this new diet for 4 weeks and I havent seen much difference. Apart from slightly larger poos.

    Gsd Limping

Hi alananddora My now 11 month old GSD boy has been limping on his front legs on and off since he was about 7-8 months old. He went to the vet and was diagnosed with a shoulder strain and was put to rest - which is quite easy as he is a lazy couch potato - and given antinflammatories. Limping went away but i noticed he started to limp on and off again about a month later. I believe he was exercised too much when my BF's parents were looking after my dogs whilst i was overseas for two weeks. Went to get his lebows xrayed at a GSD specialist in WA. Aparantly he has arthtitis..... I have spoken to his breeders but there have been a slight break down of communications being Xmas and New year and all. I have started him on light exercise and supplementing him on Joint Guard. He seems to be improving which is good news. Hope your sheppie gets better soon
  15. So sorry about Zana. What a beautiful girl she was
  16. I've only just read this Hort. Hoping for the best. I've seen Ebony do zoomies in your yard! Can you get a doggie life jacket??
  17. I'm so sorry for your loss Pix. Rest in Peace Kaeleigh.... :D ;)
  18. I'm supposed to amypie :D But as i said, I dont have my own transport to get there and BF cant always take me ;) (Hopefully i pass my test on the 24th. I already have my stationwagon ready to go!!)
  19. I'm thinking about doing Agility with Kaiser.... Im SOR too and currently a member of the Southern River Agility (& Obedience) Club. It'll be a lot easier to get to training when I get my drivers licence! SoI cant always go as BF is busy sometimes with TAFE and work etc.
  20. Hi All. I bought a pack of Lamb kidneys the other day for the first time. Mya loved it Kaiser ate around it and left it in his bowl Just wondering how often i can give it to my dogs? I usually give them RC kibble, eggs, yoghurt, sardines/tuna, chicken, beef and lamb mince - depending on whats cheapest while i'm out shopping. All human grade stuff. Is it bad for them to be given kidneys, hearts, livers etc too often? Thanks all
  21. Just saw this D+D. Hope Dougal Dog gets better soon! Good luck finding the right vet Hope it all works out for the best.
  22. Louie is much better and has stopped the humping and isnt straining to poo anymore. May have been a settling in thing?? Bad news is that he may have a brain tumor/growth. He lost his eyesight in about 4 weeks and the vets said it wasnt cataracts. He also wobbles a bit when walking which is more neurological - uncoordinated walking. I guess he's showing his age.... The specialist said that operating on him may kill him and he is not in any pain. His owner is going to let him be and give him a good life till he passes. She's actually reduced her work hours to stay home a little more too. Thanks for your concern
  23. Kasier learned to shake hands (both paws, but with one firmly on the ground) in one 10 minute session (so proud ) as a 10 week old pup. He only does it on command. My sister taught her rotties to shake their whole body on command like when they shake water off their fur. Would LOVE to teach Kaiser that!
