So sorry to hear the loss of your big boy... I hope as the days have progressed the memories of him have brought you and your family smiles instead of tears.

How about in a situation, where you have an expensive/rare/imported/highly-desired breed of dog and would like to reduce the likelyhood of strangers (with possible bad intentions) knowing unneccesary details about you. Therefore, you do not keep a Facebook/Twitter/Photo sharing account, you don't post photos of yourself or your dogs online and any forum that you frequent, and generally keep to yourself when out walking your dogs not because you are an unfriendly, petrified hermit paranoid that everyone will steal your dogs, but because you prefer to enjoy the company of your own dog/s and share them mainly with your family and friends?
-
What about in scenario A? Having your/your dog's photo taken by a camera phone from a person in their car at the lights? I'm assuming we're talking about different things here... 'Street photography' as you've described to capture moments for whatever reason for a persons own collection of photos. And photos that can potentially specify whom, with what dog, where, and when to then be posted online 'for the sake of it'.
-
So you would make all candid street photography illegal or do you really mean getting consent to USE the photo after? i think photographer should ask permission before taking photographs pf people.... You realise you can't really get a candid once the person knows, so that would be the end of street photography altogether. What a shame. Can't say it's my type of photography but there are so many amazing photographs over the years that record both history and society and culture all through candids. Asking permission to use the photo means if they do have the above issues, they are negated because the photo never sees the light of day. Tess32 my questions were more specifically of JUST you and your dog...walking along, as apposed to a 'street candid photograph' where there is an attempt to capture a moment with background etc etc... My personal opinion rely on the intent of the photograph. It's common decency to ask permission either before/during/after photographing an owner and their dog out in public, when attempting to capture an interesting shot with a purpose of creating something artistic as Tess32 has mentioned. You don't legally have to, but it's just polite if you get a questioning look from the owner to smile and ask. However, I'm puzzled as to why people would bother to take 'un-artistic' photos of people and their dogs taken seemingly...just for the sake of it. And am curious as to people's thoughts on being photographed out and about. Hence this discussion.

Considering it is NOT illegal to take photographs of a person without their consent unless in the following situations: Consider the following scenarios: Scenario A:You are out walking your dog in your local area, and an unknown person sitting in a car at the lights, pulls out their camera phone to take a photo of you and your dog as you pass them. These photos are then posted online (not necessarily on a forum that you frequent or a photo sharing website) as a 'check out the dogs in my area' or 'who's this? Identify yourself!' type of thing. Scenario B: You are sitting at a cafe with your dog at your feet, and a passerbyer takes a photo of both of you using a small, compact camera without saying anything, and continues walking. These photos are then posted online (not necessarily on a forum that you frequent or a photo sharing website) as a 'check out the dogs in my area' or 'who's this? Identify yourself!' type of thing. Scenario C:You are at a dog park, and a stranger walks around taking candid photos of owners and their dogs. These photos are then posted online (not necessarily on a forum that you frequent or a photo sharing website) as a 'check out the dogs in my area' or 'who's this? Identify yourself!' type of thing. In all scenarios, your face/personal features are not necessarily recognisable, however you are in all of the photos WITH your dog, and no details with regards to location/clothing/identifying mark/etc are blurred. Have you had unsolicited photos taken of you and your dog whilst out and about? If yes, did you mind? Do you have a 'rare or interesting looking dog'? If yes, did you ask them to stop taking photos/delete the ones of you? If yes, did they comply? Would you prefer for photos taken of you and your dog to be posted online, or kept within a person's photo collection? Would you mind if in all of the above scenarios photos were taken of JUST your dog?

I agree any long coated dog would be the same, My girls today rolled in horse poo, home for a quick tub under the dryer for 5 mins good as new!! ;) it just part of owning a long coated breed or cross breed as the case may be. Each to thier own I guess, I love the fact that I have no dog hair on my clothes or furntiure or carpet or anywhere really apart from a little in the hair brush from ears and face occasionally. eta: I was fully aware of the coat my guys would have when I got each one. I disagree.. see below. Dogs bred for dealing with those conditions..in my (newb) opinion have coats designed to repel dirt/water, dry quicker etc... Hehe... what fun for our dogs! I was looking after a gorgeous Golden Retriever and was mortified to see how muddy, wet and dirty he got after a fantastic play session that last all day in the rain, rumbling with other dogs... was prepared to wash/dry him the next day when all it took was 15mins out of the wet/mud and the oils in his coat seemed to excrete all the dirt and he was looking fabulous. Seriously was very impressed/relieved.... all these ethical breeders doing their job to confirm to breed standard... pays off.

He's a tea-cup Border Collie! :D Wow.. I WISH I saw more of these beautiful 'rarer' breeds out and about.. I would love to comment and coo over them... I've only ever seen one Great Dane around my area as well..

Good luck finding temp homes for them!!

*rubs eyes* *still can't see difference* *leaves judging to the judges.... *

Neat! You should make a 'how to' thread with piccies of how you made it! What type of dirt is it? Do you find you get HEAPS of dirt patches all around it from the flicked up dirt? How often does it need refilling? If you didn't have the cover, apart from it getting muddy when it rained...do you think it would dry up and be harder for the dogs to dig into/more fun? What a fantastic effort to give your dogs ability to do something that comes naturally to them!!
-
As a side note...digging is fun! I'm not surprised that your pooch has discovered it...and I'll bet $500 he'll keep doing it until he's bored of it, or finds something else even more fun to do. (Or...as some have suggested, he's figured out that digging = not-fun squirt of water, or whatever...but this is harder for you as you haven't been able to catch him doing it). Good luck getting a digging clam or making an area where he is allowed to be all doggy like... If you're upkeeping the rest of the house as best you can, on time with rent etc etc, a reasonable landlord/property manager will understand that when it comes to moving out time, a resonable tenant will do everything they can to 'fix' things (read: the grass..which grows mind you! And is at the back so passerbys can't see it) to ensure getting their bond back.

Is there a concern that the more and more 'incorrect' colours/dogs/(whatever) are shown for the fun of it, eventually with time judges may lapse in their judgement, readjust their standards, or these incorrect colours/whatever are then eventually allowed in the breed code? And would this increase the general publics opinion and view of these 'incorrect' colours which then may lead to higher demand, thus increasing damage to the reputation of correct dogs? How important are the colour guidelines? What percentage of colour guidelines is related to health issues, versus just what looks 'good' and is the norm? *question coming from a non-showy who has no idea how it works, to all showies.*

Rare Or Disqualifed Colours In Breeds.
Tatelina replied to poodlefan's topic in General Dog Discussion
They used to be. I don't know any breeders who it these days but I think it happens less often at least. I wouldn't think twice to make sure a black and tan, liver, blue or fawn doesn't make it past the first few hours. I'd be taking a serious look at how they've come about and making sure I take measure to prevent them popping up again. Out of curiosity, why wouldn't you desex and pet-home? Assuming the pups are healthy of course. Because to let them out into the hands of the averge Joe, serves only to encourage the breeding of them. There are people who already think that black and tans for example are the best thing since sliced bread and can't wait to get one. Excitement over a breed fault, colour or otherwise should not be encouraged. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a second! Blue staffies are a fault in the breed?! Sheesh! Shows how much I know...but... ReadySetGo as proof of your point about the general public desiring the incorrect colours, I have so many acquaintances who have/desire/want blue coloured staffies is amazing, and validating your (logical and correct - imo) reasoning. ETA: And more than happy (and even EXPECT) to pay atleast $3k for a blue pup... -
Good for you for taking the time to educate someone...although that is really sad that they received a not-so-friendly response. For me the embarrassing part is when people call the OP a troll for asking a simple question, then turn the thread into a shambles of a discussion based around why the OP did not return. Can't see the hilarity though +1 I would guess this stems from some people becoming jaded from always having to repeat themselves to deaf ears?
