I live in the same area as foxyloxy and we both bought our human grade meat at the same place and you guessed it my 13mo Rough Collie pup had the same symptons last week and the faecal analysis came back the same, campylobacter. She is on antibiotics for it. I , and foxyloxy, both do as you say Nadia( we sometimes shop together)- we buy the meat last, put it into an esky bag and straight home and into the fridge( home is a 2-3 im drive). I then divide mine up into portions and immediately freeze what I am not going to use that day. This has given me so much of a scare( we lost our Champion Collie in August to Inflammatory Bowel Disease) I think I will be cooking the beef mince when I can resume feeding it again.

Hugs Katey, I feel the same with the losses I have had this year, first Maggie in July and then recently our rescue boy Bundy. We have Phoebe and love her to pieces but Maggie was one special girl and I cry for her a lot. It is okay to cry.

Dog Not Eating After Vaccinations
InspectorRex replied to girl05's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
what breed of dog is your poor sick one? I ask as a few breeds such as Collies, Shelties, Aus Sheps cannot have the heartwrom injection due to ivermectin sensitivity and a damn lot of Vets don't realise that. Get to another Vet asap and let us know how you go. -
There is a Specialist Canine Dentist, Dr Stephen Coles, at Sandringham Vet Hospital in Bluff Road, Sandringham. Stephen is also Veterinary Advisor to the Royal Melbourne Zoo and does all the dentistry on the Big Cats etc. he was our Vet when we lived in Melbourne( would still go there if it wasn't 2hrs each way). If you ring Directories and ask for Sandringham veterinary Hospital then you should be able to get an appointment with Stephen . he saved my old Collie's life years back when a mouth problem occured and the local Vet thought it was nothing to worry about.

It is with great sadness that this morning November 7th 2005 we had to farewell our beautiful aged Rescue Collie, Bundy, to the Rainbow Bridge. We rescued Bundy in Aug 2005 and he had been badly neglected. We thought we were winning the battle to get him back into good health but alas the damage had been done. "Bundy the Beautiful"- you enriched our lives so much in the 3 months you were part of our hearts and home. You were such a loving and gentle Rough Collie. You will be missed dearly by all of us. Rest easy old chap. Colleen, "Poppy"(Bill) and your little "sister" Phoebe Puppy XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Refer to Dog Rescue Forum for more Vales for this beautiful old man

I would worry- sounds as if she has retained Puppy teeth that need to be extracted.(that is where the puppy teeth do not fall out and make room for the adult teeth) Get her to the Vet and mention that- bet that is what is happening.

Vet Shocked At Me Giving My Dogs Vegies
InspectorRex replied to sugar's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Firstly , dogs cannot digest raw vegies unless they have been pureed, that is whythe peas and corn were whole. I don't feed corn. My dogs love their vegies and my Vets supports what I am feeding them( raw mince, pureed vegies, boiled rice, chicken necks, shanks, brisket bones and some Bonnie Complete). -

Supplements For Joint Health
InspectorRex replied to Dublin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have recently started our 9yo Rescue Rough Collie on the MicroGenics MSN Glucosamine and Chrondoitin Unflavoured powder and he is bounding around like a young dog again. our vet is amazed at the difference in him. It is around $49 to but at the health food shop but he only has 3/4 teaspoon with food morning and night. -

Help! I Don't Know What Wrong
InspectorRex replied to HeidiB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Phew glad poor Busta had a wee. Strange the Vet who speyed her doing a flank spey- our Vet hasn't done a flank spey in around 20years. Do they think that was the cause of all her problems? Please keep us informed. will include Busta in my prayers tonight.Geez my list of sick doggies is growing fast at the moment. Hang in there, we are all thinking of you -
Dog Sleeping In Your Bed
InspectorRex replied to joannakathleen's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Our dogs have always been allowed to sleep on the beds if they want to. My young Rough Collie pup, Phoebe, snuggles up on the pillows next to me and keeps my back warm. soemtimes she will get up and go in on Dad's ( her Poppy) bed for awile but then she comes back onto mine and snuggles. when she gets really comfortable she lays on her back and leans over towards me with her front paws resting on me to cuddle -
it is so sad to lose one so young.( we know we lost one last year at 9mths) let your Council know about this as there may have been other cases in the area so even if a snake they can put out alert to residents In our thoughts

:D So sorry about your beloved Sir Bastion, Pesh Our animals are much loved family members and it hurts like damn hell when they go to the Bridge. Catch those mice up there Sir Bastion

so true'experiencedfun'- you knew Maggie so well and she was a very special grand lady. She touched the hearts and souls of all who knew her. Maggie is up there with her "Nanna" and her "Brodie"- they were waiting for her I am sure of that. Yes Mum's grave looked beautiful after we put the red and white roses, streamers and balloons on it. She would have loved that .I am sure she was watrching the game and gave the Swans a good talking too in the last quarter when they nearly lost the game

A question Dogdayz- wen you did your recall which end of the ring did you do it from? If you did it from the Post end that is why your dog didn't come. it has been long recognised that you always place your dog for recall at the other end of the ring as recall is done after stand for exam from the post end and the dog needs to be able to distinguish the 2 exercises. As for only losing 6pts for the dog not heeling off with you- you were lucky!as a former ANKC Obedience Judge this should have been a Zero score, unless the rukes have changed recently

Bugger! Berwick is an hour's drive each way and with the high cost of petrol and me only being on a Carer's Pension it is not an option

is there an ADT club anywhere near Morwell, Victoria? sick of mainstream obedience clubs

The "Lawrence Tender Care" slicker brushes are much gentler on the dog and the coat. Some of the so-called slickers brushes hurt the dog when you use them

Thanks Val and Katey. I too , Val, know about the ravanges of Cancer. I gave up my job of 21 years to nurse my Mum at home with Cancer. It is a dreadful disease.Mum died at age 68 in Nov '03 and now I care for Dad who is nearly 83yo."Maggie" was really Mum's dog who I showed and groomed etc so that made Maggie's passing even harder to deal with. My late Mum's footy team , the Swans( aka South Melbourne/Sydney) won the AFL premiership today after a 72 year drought. Tomorrow I am going to the cemetery to decorate her grave in the Club colours. Mum must have been wathing our her Beloved boys today.

I agree with Jencol and Carluke; any groomer worth their salts should be able to prevent a dog nipping them but still be able to groom the dog. You need to find the cause of the hotspots also; if Brandy has them in the area she does not like being brushed then a cycle had started
