If she is straining to poop she could be out in the back and I would suggest a check over with a Chiropractor.( have you ever tried to poo when your back has been out? same things for dogs )
-
sheltiesrule- I would be getting a Vet to take a look at our dog, seeing some of the spots have been pussing etc. Contact the Sheltie Club for help

I wish both of you luck with your dogs. My "Maggie"(avatar girl) was diagnosed with severe Inflammatory Bowel Disease after having an endoscopy done. Nothing really worked for her diet wise or medication wise and we lost her to IBD on 15.7.2005, 2 wks short of her 8th birthday. Maggie had been able to eat anything as a youngster then at the beginning of 2005 she started with gurgling tummies, funny poos, off her food etc etc and lost over 7 kgs in weight. We even tried a Qualified Naturopath but nothing worked. Hope it all goes well for you , you have a long hard and expensive road ahead of you. Rex

Thanks Tassie however I did know that all drugs from the Mectin family , and many others, cannot be given to Ivermectin sensitive dogs. I have copious pages of studies done and took part in the latest research done here in Oz last year.
-
s Belinda has stated, if you have Collies( Rough, Smooth, Border, bearded) or Shelties, Aussie Sheps or crosses of these breeds IT IS NOT safe to use products with "mectin" drugs in them, eg Heartgard, Revolution etc. We use Sentinel Spectrum monthly tablets with our Collies. The sensitivity in due to a mutation of the MDR gene and there is now a DNA test available here in OZ to see whether your dog is Clear, Carrier or Affected with the Ivermectin sensitivity

My Poor Murray Dog Is Sick
InspectorRex replied to Cheyenne_Fury's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ok CF, here is some advice as I had a sick girl in the new year who was panting etc and my Vet gave her metacam too(: Murray's symptoms sound just like she was-unsettled, hiding under beds etc, panting heavily. After a heap of tests etc nothing was found by the Vet however I picked up that her Back was very badly out. Took her to Chiro vet and after being manipulated etc she was back to herself. but she had a severe adverse reaction to metacam and ended up an a IV drip for 2.5 days. please WATCH Murray for explosive diarrhoea, vomitting etc as these are adverse reactions , as is lethargy, to rimadyl and metacam. These reactions can take over 14 days to occur from the initial dose. My girl reacted 10 days after the metacam was given to her :D Metacam and rimadyl can actually raise a dog's temperature, so i have found out. I did a heap of research on NSAIDS since my girl's drama and will never have them given to my dogs again. have a look at www.dogsadversereactions.com and look at the NSAIDS section. I have since changed vet clinics and the Vet I now go to uses holistic medicine also and is qualofied to do so. Dogs cannot tell us that they have put their backs out etc. and Vets , some of them, make too many assumptions, that if the dog is unwell that they must have an upset gut ;) -

C5 Vaccination Side Effects -
InspectorRex replied to doberkids's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am wondering whether or not there is a bad batch of C5's at the moment? My grl had a huge lump come up recently after her c5 15mth old booster. Damn Vet wanted to 'write it off' to as one of those things. well we had words I and I waited in his room whilst he reported it to the Company( it was Canvac for those interested). He then wanted to give her cortisone for the lumo and I told him where he could put it, so to speak. I now go to another Vet who listens to my concerns and with her guidance my girl is getting back on track and adopts a holistic approach to her Vet work. -

C5 Vaccination Side Effects -
InspectorRex replied to doberkids's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Am totatly with dogbesoted, insist this adverse reaction is reported, or do what i did and report it yourself! Too many Vets are "writing things off". Due to a reaction to a medication we have changed Vets and the Vet we go to now has mad massive notes on my girl's record about drug she is NOT to be given under ANY circumstances. A friend's two dogs( litter mates ) had the same reaction to C5 about 12mths ago Hope your furkid is now recovering okay -
I agree with Kimjim - qualifications essential If you are prepared to travel here in Morwell we have superb Vet who also holds a Masters Degree in Veterinary Chiropractics( only 2 people in Oz have this qual.) She is also very gentle with the dogs. Pm me if you want furhter info

Ollie Dog - Mast Cell Tumour
InspectorRex replied to Staffyluv's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Please dear Lord let Ollie and Jodie overcome this awful illness Colleen -
if she doesn't tolerate the yoghurt you could try a Dairy-free probioitc capsule. I use Micro-genics one bought from the health food shop and open it up ans sprinke on food. Pups eat some real delights. My 15mth old Rough Collie pup found some cat poop in the yard yesterday and ate it . The she found a half-eaten apple a bird must have dropped and thought it was wonderful until I caught her and took it off her. Our furkids just love the gross us out
-
It is terrible that these things happen to our furkids. With my girl having had the adverse reaction to Metacam( on a drip for 2.5 days) and now it appears a reaction to her vaccination I am now going to a vet that will listen to my concerns and looks for natural alternatives first girl05-you are entitled to get copies of the Vet reports of your beloved dog. PM me if you want to discuss more
-
didn't you recently change your dogs to a new dry food? could that be the cause?
-
girl05- not is is not right what happened to your baby. A few weeks ago my girl had a severe adverse reaction to metacam and was on a drip for 2.5days. I then did research on metacam and have had the Senior Vet at that practice repoert the reaction and I have reported it too. Make a list if questions and go get some answers. PM me if you want any further help Rex

Too right Dan, it is so scary

Holly, my girl was given both injectable metacam and oral and yes followed the dosage instructions and gave with full meal. Yes Collies are Extremely sensitive to Ivermectin. I have now become aware of 4 other Collies that had severe reactions to Metacam in the past 12mths. I had my girl DNA tested last year for Ivermectin Sensitivity and she is Affected.(most Collies are) Like Wolfies, Collies sometimes have issues with anaesthetics too.

Hi all about 10 days ago my girl hurt her back pretty badly and we could not get into the Vet Chiro for a few days. the vet at the other Clinic gave her Metacam as pain relief. Well within 2-3 days she was really ill with explosive diarrhoea and had her at the Vets at 4am last Sunday morning. She was placed on a drip for over 48hrs and given metranidazole. I have since found a website on adverse reactions to medications in dogs and I was totally mortified when I read all the dogs that had reacted and died link www.dogsadveresreactions.com My girl is on the mend now but how many owners have not known why their dogs are so ill after being given one of these drugs??

Our dearest "Maggie" aka Ch Colbeau Go Get Em Legal ( our Rough Collie in my avatar), aged just under 8years. Today it is 6 months since you left us for the Rainbow Bridge and it still feels like yesterday. You were such a sweet, loving girl and you left you paw print on the hearts of all who knew you.
