  1. RIP Debbie. :D Your Mum did all she could but God needed you more . You were one very special Collie and your Mum will meet up again with you one day, Colleen
  2. Our wonderful Vet has adopted the 3yr protocol for the parvo C3 vaccine and then leaves the decision up to the owner about KC
  3. If your Vet will nt report the reaction to AVPMA you can do it yourself www.avpma.gov.au Many breeds are now know to be Ivermectin sensitive, including Akitas, Whippets and other sighthounds. I stumbled on a website yesterday that may give you a greater insight - Ivermectin Affected dogs cannot have a whole heap of other drugs that, unfortunately, most Vets are not aware of have a look at www.miniaussierescue.org and look at the list of MDR Problem Drugs list. I have had my Collie DNA tested for MDR1 mutant gene and she is Affected. My wonderful Vet has this noted on her file along with all these drugs that she is NEVER to be given
  4. I would NOT be using Revolution on your Aussie Shep UNLESS he/she has been DNA Tested as Clear for Ivermectin Sensitivity as Collies, Aussies, Shelties and a few other breeds have a mutation in the MDR gene and if given this drug, even as a sopt on, it can prove fatal PM me if you want more info
  5. Yes my Collies are EaglePack Holistic dry food eaters with chicken frames. No smell, no copious poos etc. Have you tried warming his food in the microwave for day 15 seconds with a bit of homemade gravy on it? Works for every fussy eater I have known of
  6. RIP Little one, have peace now
  7. Vitamin E 500IU twice a day is good for restoring the immune system, can buy relatively cheap in the Cenovis brand too
  8. For a Collie, due to the Ivermectin sensitivity in the breed-my breed too- I would be using the Glucosamine Hydrochloride on a daily basis. Best to buy from a human health food shop as the staff will know what you are talking about. Sashs's blend reeks and I would not eat my dinner either if it was on it.
  9. My Vet recommends the Glucosamine Hydrochloride as the Glucosamine Sulfate can be hard on their stomachs Eg for a 20 kg dog 500mg twice a day for pain relief/reduction of swelling in the joints
  10. Ring any Vet clinic you can get an after hours service for advice then back to your own Vet asap tomorrow- that is what I would do if i could not reach my Vet. if you can PM Rappie ASAP ( DOLer who is a Vet she may be able to help)
  11. My Collies are feed on a mixture of super Premium kibble( Eagle Pack Holistic) and chicken frames. The poops are nice and formed , no farts and their coats are superb. As others have said, whatever works best for the dog
  12. I agree with Nadia and CavNRott- vaccine or drug reactions can occur from within minutes to days. I have experienced it with a severe adverse reaction my girl had to Metacam several days after being given the drug.If the Vet wont't report it go to www.avpma.gov.au and report the reaction yourself. In the meantime get the puppy to a Vet that will listen to your very valid concerns
  13. Norska if the large size 16 pants are elastic waisted I may be interested also :p
  14. The "Moisture Magnet" towels( chamois) are great for getting all the excess water out of a Rough Collie coat prior to drying them with the turbodryer, that is what I do anyway. Does help get the reall dripping water out around the ruff.
  15. Thanks heaps Norska . I have asthma which requires me to go on steroids often so makes it dam hard to even try and lose weight I think this thread is superb
  16. I am like Ellz and are "up-sized" and also short, 5feet 3inches. Also on an limited budget. I am desperate for a suit in a hot pink or cherry red tomato colour( pants size 18 if elastic waisted all around, otherwise a bit bigger, jacket/blazer need at least a size 22 as I have inherited my mother's families broad back and big hips and thighs). ( my dear Dad can eat all he likes and never puts on weight ) I have a lovely apricot/peach fully lined skirt in size 18 (worn once)that I am prepared to swap if someone in the world can find me a hot pink outfit. I love that colour and it looks superb with my Tricolour Collies. So does the bright reds. MM- anything in your box of "goodies" that might suit/fit me? Please Great idea for a thread too DOlers.
  17. Anne , my thoughts are with you at this very sad time. You were there for me when my Collie Puppy went to the Bridge in 2004 and that meant a lot to me. Chance- run free now sweetie- no more pain :p
  18. isaviz, you are in my thoughts at this very sad time. Take care and cry when you want to cry

Ditto to what everyone has said, the dogs need to be securely contained, for their own safety too.especia;;y if you are Rural farmers can shoot a dog on site. Plenty of places sell Run kits etc, farm fencing will not keep a dog in.
  20. An "internal medicine specialist" specialises in the field of gastrointestinal issues such as colitis and IBD, among others. Whomever you see will probably recommend an endoscopy( that is what my beloved Maggie had to have) and they take biopsies from the walls of the bowel and intestines. PM me if you want to chat as I totally know what you are going through. Sending Good vibes your way
  21. Hi Peigirl, yep it is time to ask for faecal analysis and referral to internal medicine specialist as the illness is not improving. After losing my girl to Inflammatory Bowel Disease last year I now know what symptons to watch for etc. Wishing you and your poor furkid all the best.
  22. Well said Nadia. The less chemicals we have to give our dogs the better. I am lucky my current Wonderful Vet thinks that way too
  23. DebbieK I sent you a PM, did you receive it?I really feel for you after almost losing our girl back in January this year to a severe adverse reaction to Metacam. have a look at the website www.dogsadversereactions.com and it is scary stuff. My wonderful Current Vet avoids Metacam and other NSAIDs like the Plague and looks for a natural alternative first.
  24. as others have stated here Collie and related breeds( Shelties, Border Collies, Aussie Sheps, Greyhounds ) and even GSD's have a sensitivity to the drug Ivermectin and any related drug, including the yearly injection. It can can fatal or near-fatal reactions. I would never give the yearly heartworm injection to any dog, regardless of breed. Too much for their system to cope with
