I feed Eagle Pack Holistic Duck to my avatar girl with chicken thigh fillets and necks. Her 8mo daughter is fed Eagle Pack Original with human grade beef and chicken necks. They also have beef brisket bones to keep their teeth nice. Go to a Petstock store as they have samples of Eagle Pack and other Premium foods and get a few and get your dog to try them. Yes Eagle Pack is dearer however because it is a Super Premium food you do not have to feed as much

Surgery For Extreme Hip Dysplasia
InspectorRex replied to Trisven13's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Does the Vet think he might have Elbow Dysplasia also? I feel for Samson's owners as I had to PTS a 9mth old puppy in 2004 with severe HD. The surgery has a very long rehab program and can be very taxing, both emotionally and financially for the owners as well as very taxing for the dog. For me , i would not put a dog through the surgery as it is not guaranteed 100% success. Humans go through enough pain with hip surgery and we can tell others when we have pain and discomfort- a dog cannot JMHO -
I feed EaglePack and am very pleased with it.

As a former ANKC Obedience Judge who has had to Judge in 41 degree heat(23 dogs and only 2 scratched ) I was so glad when OTEC brought in the Heat rule, which i might add was available for all members to Vote on. Now for the Conformation ppl to do the same. The RSPCA would have a field day if they saw ppl trialling etc in those extreme temperaturs. I for one would not have even turned up if I had entered.Would much rather lose a few $$ than lose a dog to heat exhaustion any day.

I would NOT use anything other than Interceptor or Sentinel on your Greyhound. I have an Ivermectin Sensitive breed( Rough Collies) and the latest info I have is that they have now discovered that breeds such as most Sighthounds, Akitas, GSD's are aslo known ti be Ivermectin Sesnitive so therefore should NOT be given Proheart of any kind, Revolution , Heartgard or any of the drugs that have "mectin" products in them If you want more details feel free to PM me and i can email you a list of No drugs I had my Rough Collie DNA tested for the Ivermectin Sensitivity and she is affected. Test costs around $60.00

I am with Fido 666 but I am biased too Collies are gentle souls , they get along extremely well with Shelties, Cavaliers( in my experience) but I wouldn't have an over the top breed with a Collie( ie retriever or similar)

Obedience Trialling Question
InspectorRex replied to leopuppy04's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Keep up the practice Leopuppy, it is hard work but you are making progess. Yes re-judging is at the Judge's discretion - I always used to re-judge if an unruly dog that had broken forced other dogs to break. -
Sounds like the breeder is being supportive? Make sure you have plans in place if for some reason the murmur does not go away( eg will the breeder assist with possible medication costs since the condition was know to them prior to your collection of your baby? will the breeder refund $$ if the conditions worsen etc). these are things you need to look at Prior to bringing the puppy into your possession. Good luck and God willing all will go well

Obedience Trialling Question
InspectorRex replied to leopuppy04's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Leopuppy , as a former ANKC Obedience Judge I personally would have re-judged the stays for the dogs that were"forced " to break by the unruly dog. If this happens again, seek out the VCA rep and explain the situation and you might find your dog will be re-judged. If you don't ask, you don't know. -
RIP little bubbas, have fun at the Bridge

Annual Heartworm Injections Adverse Reactions
InspectorRex replied to evelin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ginger's Mum- yes Revoultion has "sister" ingredients to the Proheart Injections- hounds have now been discovered to be Ivermectin sensitive as well as other breeds such as Akita's and GSD's so unless you have a DNA test to find out whether or not your dog is Ivermectin sensitive I would NOT use either of the above injections on your dog. -
Annual Heartworm Injections Adverse Reactions
InspectorRex replied to evelin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Evelin, I am glad you had this reaction reported to the AVPMA- they are very helpful I have Rough Collies so have know for years not to give any "mectin" based drugs to my Collies even if they Vets say they are safe. It does not only end with Ivermectin sensitivity- if your dog is Ivermectin Sensitive( this includes Coolies Rough and Smooth, Shelties, Aussie Shepherds,Boder Collies, GSD's, Akitas, Whippets and other sighthounds) it will also not be able to have a whole lot of other drugs that are administered by most Vets. If anyone wants the list feel free to PM me -
Thanks folks, it is true Mita - God must have needed the boys more than we did. The boys are watching over their 2 sisters I know that

On Monday 30.10.06 our first Rough Collie litter was born by emergency c-section. First boy was stillborn and the other boy who survived( whom I named Harry after my wonderful Vte;s son as my Vet had an emergency c-section too) struggled through two nights and then on Wednesday morning God took him to the Rainbow Bridge RIP big "boofy"( stillborn puppy) and Harry- you watch over your two sisters that are here with us- "Gracie" and "Glory".

Hero Has Demodex Mites Help!
InspectorRex replied to he'smyhero's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It is not only Collies that have an Ivdermectin sensitivity. Google Ivermectin Senstivity or MDR1 mutation or pm me I can give you more info -
Ditto to what Miranda said If you want to give your Standard Poodle every chance of Not having bone issues etc etc exercise it lightly until fully grown( no jumping in or out of cars, up and down of things etc etc). Nice little walks.
