  1. I would have a Vet look at it as these types of things can lead to infections such as peridontal disease that it left untreated can have other impacts on the dog's health. Like with Humans, a broken tooth that is exposed can have an abscess(sp?) form Best to err on the side of caution
  2. I would not be using Proheart in any shape or form.Too many fatalities.go to www.dogsadversereactions.com and it is scary reading. Both our Vet Clinics here have adopted the 3 yearly protocol for c3( not bad for rural Vets) and both also offer the newer, safer version of the intra-nasal kennel cough vaccine called"NovaShield".( they only have to put in one nostril, not both like the Bronchoshield) I am pleased with that as I do not won't to over-vaccinate but still want my dogs covered. I do C3 plus the NovaShield and for heartworm prevention and worm prevention I use Sentinel Spectrum but stretch it out to about 5 weeks between doses( have checked this and s fine to fo).
  3. Genetic Science Services do the buccal sawb for MDR1 here , costs about $60 but money well spent as if the dog is MDR Affected or Carrier there is a huge list of other drugs that cannot be given to that dog. Feel free to PM your email addy and I will send you some info and links on this
  4. Sentinel Spectrum Monthly for heartworm and normal worm prevention and Frontline Plus( bought online at pricelesspets.com.au) If you care to PM me your email addy I can send you mountains on info on Ivermectin Sensitivity( mutant MDR1 Gene) in the Collie breeds( it is also in Sighthounds, Akitas, OES just to name a few more breeds that are affected). Unless the dog has been DNA Tested for the Ivermectin Sensitivity and the result is "Clear" I would not be using any ivermectin or related product on a Collie or Collie-like breed- it could prove fatal
  5. I would not use Revolution on any Collie breed Unless the dog has had the DNA Test for Ivermectin Sensitivity and is "Clear" Revolution contains a Mectin based drug that can be fatal if used on a dog that is Ivermection Sensitive( eg Rough and Smooth Collies, Border Collies , Aussie Shepherds, Shelties, Sughthounds, Akitas to name a few)
  6. Thanks Mystiqview- you cannot muck about with these types of health issues. A Vet is like a GP- if it is out of their field of expertise they should be referriing you on asap
  7. Firstly i would be going for the thyroid test , then if no result referral to a Veterinary Dermatologist for a full range of intra-dermal skin tests to find out exactly was the poor BC is allergic too as airborne pollens can cause Atopic Dermatitis/Atopy- do a google search on this , there is heaps of info on it.
  8. Yep it is a catch 22, there has been other cases of Parvo in Frankston recently so it is around. You can do alot with Noah at home though- exposing him to different surfaces to walk on, different noises, he will have Reilly and Ebony to socialise with( what more could Noah want Lol!). I haven't taken any of my Collies to puppy pre-school as the risk is far too high IMHO- You can always have friends bring their vaccinated dogs over to play( and if like me you are worried about the risk of infection have the owners take off their shoes and leave them outside your house, wash their hands with Dettol hand wash and spray their dogs lightly with Glen20- that is what I did and I know a few other Collie people swear by spraying with Glen20) Good luck with Noah
  9. Steve, you already have my email and suggestions for a venue
  10. I am with Pebbles here- Rimadyl, Metacam and other non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs can have fatal side affects. nearly 2 yrs ago I nearly lost my avatar girl after one dose of metacam- result on a drip at the Vet for three days have a look at the following website www.dogsadversereactions.com, you will be mortified! No NSAIDs for this house
  11. are any of the local Vets, like Karingal, holding puppy pre-school? If not and you can travel a bit further look up Erin Matheson of "SitHappens" dog training( delta dog trainer). The ppl who bought Gracie's sister Halle went there and they were rapt, I also know Erin personally and she does have experience with Collies Counting down the days before Noah joins your crew, how exciting
  12. look up Erin Matheson of SitHappens- delta dog trainer. She is great.ppl who bought one of pups went there and they were rapt. She is usually in the Malvern area from memory
  13. Calendula Cream from the Health Food shop will assit in the scarring healing and the hair re-growth and as it is natural it should not harm the dog. trick with applying any ointment or cream- put it on as you are just about to feed the dog then it has a good 10 minutes or so to soak in before the dog can lick it as they are too busy eating. I used this on my Collie when she was bitten by a bee two weeks before a show and was missing hair etc and by the time the show was here she had hair back and no scar. we always keep a jar in the house
  14. I am a member there but haven't been for awhile. PM Weisnjac, she may know how the ground is. we had an awful lot of rain here at the weekend.
  15. I am with Hazz, get a referral to a Veterinary Dermatologist and have the intra-dermal skin testing done as it could be air borne pollens, grasses etc that your dog is allergic too.
  16. Keep up the great work Bosko , Rome was not built in a day! It all takes time , effort and patience .
  17. I live in the LaTrobe Valley and would love to have a go at Herding with my Collies- is there anyone close to here?If so, can you please PM me their details? TIA
  18. Sentinel Spectrum here too MM. Proheart is too much at once Any breed that has Collies, Shelties, Aussie Sheps, Sighthounds, Akitaa, OES have an Ivermectin Sensitivity ( from the mutant MDR1 gene) and if you give any of these breeds Proheart, Heartgard, Revolution or any "mectin" based produts it can be fatal. You can get a DNA Test here in Aus for these breeds for the MDR1 gene , costs about $60.00 have a look at www.dogsadversereactions.com and you will be mortified
  19. What type of fruit are you feeding as some can be toxic to dogs? At puppy's age she should be on 3-4 meals a day still. If this yucky poo continues collect a sample in a plastic bag and take it and the pup to the Vet, speak to the breeder also in case any of the litter mates have the same issue
  20. we have been feeding EaglePack for 18mths now after feeding Bonnie. Beautiful coats and skin and although it is dearer you feed way less
  21. EPI= Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency PM Rappie as Rappie is a Vet and is always there to help
  22. eaglepack fan here. after every tenth bag bought you get the next free and it is fantastic quality food
  23. Shellfish is notorious for causing severe allergic reactions. Stings can also cause the reactions. Has your poor furkid recovered now? Hope so Also some drugs that you dog maybe on post-op can react( some can take up to 28 days for a reaction to occur) My avatar girl had a severe allergic reaction to Metacam Jan '06 and she was at the Vets and on a drip for nearly 3 days I would be checking all the drugs she has been given and is on and then have a read of this website www.dogsadversereactions.com What breed of dog?
  24. Mt Waverly Referral Centre has one of the state's best Vet Dermatologist's( I have been to him with a dog a few years back). westie's are known to have an Inherited skin condition called Atopy/Atopic Dermatitis/Atopic Disease.
