Getting Grass Seeds Out Of Long Fur
InspectorRex replied to CP*'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Geez how did they get some many grass seeds? Many of our nature strips are not mowed and I have only ever had 1 grass seed to remove( I have Rough Colles) Yo need to be vigilant and do an full onm dailu check if you continue to walk them where you are. Personally I would be sussing out an area where the grass have been mowed and chucking the dogs in the car and taking them there.Sure it may take a little longer to exercise them but s..t look how long you have spent so far picking out gras seeds I never walk my Collies in areas where the grass in long, never. -
Look up Kazjs Kollie Kennels in the Rough Collie Breeder directory and go to the website then the Products page. This is the breeder of my avatar girl and I am pretty sure she deals with Myella and should be able to get what you are after. If you contact Carol pleas etell her Colleen with Phoebe recommended you contact her. Good luck

doesn't Nervatone have alcohol in it? maybe that is the cause of the smell??

NeoSulcin helps with loose stools but can make the dog drink more and thus pee more, I prefer Peptosyl or Scourban myself.

Supercoat Special Care Sensitive
InspectorRex replied to InspectorRex's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for your replies. Vet has said to try Supercoat Special Care Sensitive, this is now clased as a Premuim Food and you can only buy from stockists and it is NOT one you but in a supermarket( took the brochure to show her) as she said it is very similar to Hills Sensitive Stomach les the corn and grains. She said to also look at Advance Turkey and Rice. Zayda Asher- what Advance were you feeding your furkids on that had the sensitivities? Spotted Devil- can you get Horus to PM me as cannot find on DOL? These two Collies are show gals Thanks again DOLers - yes Eagle Pack is good but I am on a limited income so have to look at alternative -
This is how my late Champion bitch started and then it went on to full blown Inflammatory Bowel Disease, we lost her at age 7.5 yrs due to complications form the IBD I pray for you Sway that it is not IBD but is surely sounds as if it is the starting of it

Any Suggestions For An Alternative?
InspectorRex replied to Terujo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
your Vet needs to refer you to a Veterinary Dermatoloigst and stop playing the guessing game which in turn is causing your dog(and you) to suffer. If she/he won't refer you then go to a Vet who will.Dermatoligust has more knowledge with these issues. In the interim I would try putting baby cotton socks ( or dog boots)on her paws each time she has to go outside to lessen the risk of a Contact allergy -
Do you have a contact for 4 Paws and more? I too am looking at Dick Van Pattens or Nutro
-
Hesapandabear, ca you please email me at [email protected] as I have lost your emaill addy TIA

A Supplement Needed? If So, What?
InspectorRex replied to Gayle.'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Have you discussed this with his breeder? That would be my first port of call as it maybe something that line does. Could be the sampoo you are using too .Try Aloveen and make sure sit is rinsed thoroughly from the coat so no residue is left then use a good conditioner and rinse that thoroughly too -
What breed of dog do you have? If it is a Rough or Smooth Collie, Sheltie, Aussie Shep,Border Collie, Akita, Sighthound or a cross of one of these I would NOT be using these products Unless you have had the dog DNA Tested for the Ivermectin Sensitivity( Mutant MDR1 gene) and the dog is Not a Carrier or Affected. Pm me if you want more info

Yes I too would not be letting him outside too much or he could get an infection at the operation site(which he may have already and that is why he is off his tucker). I would try him with small meals more often- if he keeps that and his water down well and good , if not get him back to the Vet pronto. with a temp like that I am surprised your Vet did not place him on intravenous fluids as that is elevated, especially for a dog that has had surgery. Watch for diarrhoea etc as when a Vet gave my avatar girl Metacam she had a severe allergic reaction ( explosive diarrhoea etc) and was on a drip at the Vets for nearly 3 days. With metacam etc sometimes the reaction can take up to 14 days to show itself so keep a very careful watch on your dog, I can understand giving the metamide for nausae and Noroclav( Clavilox) for infection but why the metacam?

Vaccination Confusion
InspectorRex replied to Poodle wrangler's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Our Vets( both clinics here) give 1 Vaccination at around 7-8 weeks(Protec C3), then next one at 12-14 weeks then 3 years later for the Parvo/distemper/hepatitis vaccination. For Kennel Cough they do the intra-nasal vaccine at 12-14 weeks then yearly thereafter. They are using the latest intra-nasal vaccine called Novashield- only have to squirt in one nostril and has less likely side effects than the Bronchoshiled intra-nasal KC vaccine. -
Just ensure that whom ever you go to is fully qualified in Bowen Therapy. If you are prepared to travel our Vet here in Morwll in qualified in Vet Chiropractics and also Bowen Therapy-pm me if you want details. We have people travel from Melbourne to see her.

Glad you get him to a Vet Did the Vet express the anal glands or say anything like they were "impacted" or "infected"? If this does not clear up I would be taking the dog back or going for a second opinion
-
I too feed my Collie Human Grade premium mince that has no perservative in it. My butcher makes it up fresh for me before anything else goes in the mincer and I get enought to freeze for 2 weeks. He does a special price for me too, most butchers will. Previously I have fed pet quality mince but years ago we had one dog get food poisoning so IMHO I would rather pay a few extra $$ and feed human grade that has No preservatives
-
I agree with Stormie , a Vet check to get something to give your poor dog relief from the itching and to hopefully nut out the culprit.Mention Atopy and Flea allergy dermatitis to your Vet do a google search for Atopy/Atopic Dermatitis and Flea Allergy Dermatitis- as Stormie says it takes just One bite from a flea to cause an aleergic reaction
-
why wait until Monday to take to the Vet? If he has already had sloppy poos for a few days prior to you posting you need to get this seen to ASAP .(mine would have been Vet checked by now but I like to err on the side of caution rather than something drastic happen) I am not trying to alarm you but that ice cream stick may have caused damage to the gut or bowel and if left untreated you will have one very sick dog on your hands and a very large Vet bill . At least ring your Vet today for advice.
-
If it were me I would be having the dog vet checked ASAP as there are lots of bugs around at the moment due to this ever changing weather we are having. Until you can get the dog to a Vet I would only feed small meals of boiled chicken breat fillet(skin off ) and boiled rice. The ice cream stick may have irritated/injured his gut lining so make sure you mention that to the Vet Better to err on the side of caution than to regret it later if it is something serious IMHO

Collie, Border Collie, Aussie Shepherd People
InspectorRex replied to Lemonlime's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would be doing the DNA test is there is any of the Ivermectin sensitive breeds in the dogs makeup as even crosses of these breeds can be Affected. The only way to find out if they have the Mutant MDR1 gene is to have the DNA test done. Better to be safe than sorry IMHO -

InspectorRex replied to Lemonlime's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
DNA test is about $60 through Genetic Science Services- money well spent IMHO -
Shepmax- from my understanding your dog would have it's C3 now and then not need another for 3 years.( that is how I understood it from my Vet anyway). The Kennel Cough component is given annually still and you can have either injection or intra-nasal
