digisol- I too have nearly lost a dog to Metacam and it was an Injection. The dog in my avatar was given one injection of metacam and it nearly killed her.She spent nearly 3 days on a drip Please make sure you report the adverse reaction to the site I mentioned in my earlier post PM me if you want any help doing it
-
Metacam nearly killed my avatar girl after one single injection . She had massive diarrhoea and was on a drip for nearly 3 days. No Non-steriodial anti-inflammatories for my dogs either You need to Report this reaction if your Vet has not already done so- www.apvma.gov.au. You can fill it all in yourself and believe me they do follow up with you and the makers of the drug have a look at this site www.dogsadversereactions.com you will be horrified. Hope your furkid is on the road to recovery

Yes Tess32, we all live and learn. I would perhaps ring the Company who makes the Vaccine and ask some questions.I did that with Novartis re Sentinel to make sure it was okay -
Advice Please - Titer Test Results In
InspectorRex replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Tess32 can I ask why Noah had a 6week vaccination, then one again at 9 weeks then the Nobivac?I agree with the others, I would wait until he is at least 16 weeks old for another vaccination and the Vet should cough up the $$ for this as he/she has already given your baby the wrong recommended Vaccination regime by the AVA Our Vet does 1st Vaccination at 6 weeks(Cavandra, I agree with you here and so does my Vet, only if the pups have been weaned from Mum for at least 2 weeks otherwise they have it done at 8 weeks), then a vaccination t 12-14 weeks then again 16-18 weeks- this is their regime for pups. Gracie had her final puppy C3 at 14 weeks( she was weaned at 4 weeks) and both her and Phoebe have just had NobivacDHP and don't have to have another for 3 years. They also had Nobishield for KC(intra-nasal) Good Luck with young Noah, can't wait to meet him in real person -

Orijen Is Now Avaliable In Australia
InspectorRex replied to laffi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
how can it be classed as grainless when it states on the website that the chicken are "grain fed"?? Far too many Overseas dog foods coming onto the market What price are they putting on this one out of curiosity? -
Fingers and paws crossed here too Miranda- hopefully the Vets at Werribee can solve the poor dog's problem Some Vets leave a lot to be desired and you wonder how they got ther Degree
-
yes I agree- mixed meats could mean anything!
-
Is it made in Australia? my only concern would be having lamb in it as most premium foods usually have one protein source not two Checked the site and they give out free samples but do not do that in my postcode area.
-
Also have any of the Vets done a faecal analysis( you collect a poo sample, take to Vet and they send to Lab for cultures etc)? I lost my Champion bitch to Inflammatory Bowel Disease- this is a different condition altogether from Irritable Bowel Syndrome If your Vet won't test go to a Vet who will

Worming - Heartworm, All Wormer, Fleas
InspectorRex replied to pennyw74's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have always used Popantel All wormer till 3 mths of age then switched over to Sentinel Spectrum( does heartworm and all worms) and if you buy online at pricelesspets.com.au it will cost you about 1/2 the price you pay at the Vets, I also use Frontline Plus as we go to obedience clubs and dog shows -
Make sure the Vet is using Nobivac DHP( distemper, hepatitis and parvo) , this is the correct one for the 3 yearly vaccine, and Nobivac KC- these are the current ones being used Your Vet should not have an issue as it is AVA approved
-
I give the intranasal KC yearly. Our Vet signs the Vacc.Cert to state next D,H and P due in Feb 2011( 3 yrs time) ,they have had no issues with obedience clubs or kennels querying it and have been using the Nobivac for quite a few months now
-
I just want to praise our wonderful Vet clinic who have adopted the 3 yearly vaccine protocol for Distemper,Parvo and Hepatitis. We in a rural area in Gippsland Vic They are using the Nobivac for D,H and P and also the Nobishield Intranasal KC Vaccine. My girls had their annual check-up today and so do not have to have another D,H and P vaccine for 3 years
-
have any of the Vets even hinted at Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficency( some GSD lines have issues with this from what I understand) or Inflammatory Bowel Disease? I agree about the probiotics, need to start her on them asap.Spend the extra $$ and buy the better quality ones.

How Many Vets Are Doing This?
InspectorRex replied to pomquest's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Our Vet has adopted the 3 year protocol for C3 vaccines and then if you want KC then that is annually and is usually the intra-nasal KC Vaccine, Nobishield which has far less side effects that the old KC Vaccine injection or the Bronchishield intra-nasal vaccine -
My 9 Year Old Rottie Girl Has Had A Stroke
InspectorRex replied to rakaaz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Poor Flynn, I can ask my Vet who is president of the Veterinary Chiropractics Assn if she can recommend anyone down your way( she does bowen too). PM me if you want me to do that for you Give Flynn a gentle hug from me and take care of yourself -
yes friend's GSD had "normal " eyesight for an older dog, from memory she was over 10yrs when she passed away
-
A friend's GSD had this years ago and the dog competed well in both obedience and tracking( gained several Titles) and passed away from an unrelated illness at an old age I would definietley be getting an opinion form a Veterinary opthamologist and also look at things like Macuvison and LuteinVison which they give to people who have macular degeneration
