Dexter's Hip Dysplasia Update
InspectorRex replied to Cosmolo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you are in the Melbourne area I would be taking the dog to see either Dr Ray Ferguson or Dr Mark Foley at Monash Vet Clinic in Clayton. Both are Vet orthopaedic specialists and very very good at their jobs. I have see the results of some of their ortho surgery etc and it was amazing. They will both give alternative advice if you don't want to go down the surgery path just yet. They saved my boy many years ago after he was attacked on the hind quarters by a person with a lump of wood( 4 x 2)and he went on and lived to be over 14 years of age - no surgery- just chiropractics and supplements. -
I am with Cordelia here too- off to another Vet and get to the real cause of the problem rather than just treating it symptomatically

thanks DOLers

Hi We are relocating back to outer metro Melbourne, Cranbourne, in just over three weeks ( used to live in Frankston now Morwell). Just wondering if anyone wants to recommend Vets in the area, we will be living in Cranbourne West. I will off course be back on the books of our wonderful Vet Dt Stephen Coles in Sandringham for major stuff and regular check-ups but need to have a Vet close-by for emergency type situations. Please feel free to pm me or email me at [email protected] Thanks in advance Colleen and co

Colitis comes under the umbrella of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and the only true and accurate diagnosis is for your dog to be referred to a Vet Internal medicine specialist who will perform an endoscope and take biopsies. We lost or Ch bitch to severed IBD at age 7.5 years as she did not respond to dietary changes, conventional vet medicine or alternative vet medicine. Do not muck about with this as I would hate for another person to have their dog go the way our beloved Maggie did. I myself have IBD( diagnosed after investigative surgery) and for me the medications actually aggravate the condition so am now usually alternative medicine Please fee free to PM me if you want to talk

Does Anyone Know How Long Ensal Takes To Work?
InspectorRex replied to Eileen's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
So glad you took your dog back to the Vet. What you were describing was definitely not normal after a GA May your dog recover okay and not have any lasting effects such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease etc. -
Does Anyone Know How Long Ensal Takes To Work?
InspectorRex replied to Eileen's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would be taking your dog back to the Vet PRONTO! The dog has obviously had a reaction to the GA and the Vet needs to be reviewing all meds etc. This is not normal IMHO -
If you want to PM your email address I can highly recommend a great groomer in Balwyn Vic. Has been showing and grooming for yonks( poodles, Shit Zsu's, Lhasa Apsos, TT's ).Family friend and if they were not so far away my own dogs would be going there to be groomed.

C8!! Tess32 is right. Nobivac do a 3 yearly vaccine for Distemper/Parvo/Hepatitis( the old C3) and then your dog has an annual intra-nasal vaccine( in one nostril) for the Kennel Cough Component. Our Vet does not charge any more than the old C5. Under the Animal Act here in Vic dogs entering Boarding kennels etc must have the C5 component annually and the kennels with accept the 3 yearly C3 vaccine( I know this to be fact as I recently checked with the Department of Primary Industries here in Vic who govern and set the Rules for members of the Boarding Kennels Association).

Ga Sensetivity In The Siberian Husky
InspectorRex replied to Miss B's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Collies ,and related breeds, have the Ivermectin sensitivity due to a mutation of the MDR1 gene. Therefore if the Collie or similar has not been DNA Tested for the IVR sensitivity and are CLEAR they should not be given stannard drugs like ACP, morphine and many others as they are KNOWN to cause neuro-toxicity and even death. Rappie- if you PM me your email addy I will email you the list of DO NOT GIVE drugs fro me breed. it is interesting to note that the ivermectin sensitivity has now been found in other breeds such as Sighthounds, Akitas and even GSD's. When my avatar girl had an emergency c-section she could not be given Morphine as she is Affected for Ivermectin(DNA Tested) so my vet had to give her Tramadol I carry this lsit with me in the car in case of emergencis. -
SmoothCollie- get your Collie Off Proheart ASAP! it could prove fatal giving it. Unless your Collie has been DNA Tested for the Ivermectin Sensitivity you must not give it any of the "mectin" based products DNA test costs about$60 and will tell you if your Collie is Affected, Carrier or Clear. PM your email address and I will email you heaps of information about the Ivermectin Sensitivity- it not only affects Collies but many other breeds also Proheart has been banned in some overseas Countires due to adverse reactions

Updated- Dexter Has Hip Dysplasia : (
InspectorRex replied to Cosmolo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I agree with S&T- go to an orthopaedic Vet and at least you are dealing with a Vet who specialises in the area. Your normal vet is just the same as a Human GP -
send a PM to RAPPIE- she is a Vet and can tell you all about the drugs you have mentioned Personally I would get the dog of Macrolone asap- it is known for causing kidney damage and other side effects.it caused the demise of one of my furkids many years ago and I will not give it to any of my dogs Cephlexin can cause side effects as with any drug. Ring on of the 24 hr Vet Clinics and speak to a Vet, at the very least get some reassurance

Possible Dengenerative Myelopathy? Hip Dysplasia?
InspectorRex replied to rivergem's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I totaly agree with settrluvr and Miranda- x-ray will show if the dog has HD. I would not be mucking around with chiro's or changing diets etc until you get the dog x-rayed by a Vet who specialises in hip x-rays, as Miranda say most normal Vets do not specialise in this area, similar to Human GP's. I had a pup that was lame and bunny hopping- had it x-rayed at 7mths- sure enough HD was the diagnosis. -
Sudden Onset Seperation Anxiety?
InspectorRex replied to kellyxley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
No worries Kelly when we had our house up for sale we never removed the dog water bowls etc and we justed placed all their toys in a toy box- just like you would do for human kids. Let us now how you go -
thanks for the input Isiss, much appreciated :D Care to PM me the details of the Vet you clashed with as I value your opinion here.

Looks great, be interesting to see what their fees are for things like consults, vaccinations, after hours consults etc
