  1. My girl went 2-3 times a day and the poops were bright yellow We lost her to the IBD even after alternative treatments. We tried steamed turkey mince, potato, everything but nothing worked
  2. Has he been seen by a Specialist for endoscope to see if he has Inflammatory Bowel disease? ( different from IBS) Endoscope is the only way IBD can be accurately diagnosed( I have it myself so I know) and usually if IBD is confirmed a short course of steriods is prescribed to reduce the inflammation in the bowel and also dietary changes. My Ch Bitch had this and the poops were as you describe
  3. Well today "Phoebe" (avatar girl) and the older of the two Collies did her Drops from the Stand position with the food reward .I made such a fuss of her.i don't care at this stage that the drop was not straight- she did it! Gayle - Phoebe does the most gracious drop inside too, not on command but she plonks herself on the lino and does Frogs legs at the rear Her daughter "Gracie" is cottoning on too and we are now doing most things for the food but Drop is still "not clikcing" but hey it is only 4 days since her first introduction into the world of obedience plus she is a Dominant bitch- far more than her mother Phoebe. She is going to be the one to 'test' me. We did manage to get one drop in so heaps of praise and some nice treats. They are both getting so excited now when I say 'let's go Work' that it is a race as to who wants to train first so I am rapt that they are very enthusiastic(sp?) as for Collies that can be one of the hardest things to get" enjoyment and willingness to work" Good training this morning so they are now rewarded by coming inside with the air con on and they can have their "nanna naps"
  4. Will give it a go and let you all know, thanks DOLers ;)
  5. Ian Dunbar is wonderful. I used to have his videos then a "friend" borrowed them and never returned them
  6. Have not heard the expression"fold back drop" in all my years of trialling Ness. Can you please explain? Much appreciated
  7. Training can be frustrating , we have all been there. I don't like class work- it bores the hell out of me so how must the dogs feel I prefer to train with a Private trainer then just go to club for the Groups stays and socialisation Well done on your pass
  8. Thanks Luke. I suppose I am a bit impatient having trialled a Collie successfully to CDX . I expect the girls to do it straight off I will give what you have suggested a go and let you know how we travel Cheers
  9. Thanks for that LukeW- that is howI have always taught the Drop but these two girls are very smart and will either get the front end down okay and then I have to physically push their bums down or sometimes they will get their bums down and I have to physically place the front end in the down .
  10. Okay now that I have the Collies back in "obedience mode" I am wondering what method ppl find easier to teach "drop" to adult dogs; from the SIT position; if so how do YOU do it; from the STAND position; if so how do you do it? These are the only 2 Collies we have ever had that I never taught drop to as pups for numerous reasons so i am keen to find out from others what they have tried and has it worked. Both girls are food orientated. Colleen
  11. Prayers that the furkids are still with us and fighting like mad to recover Just a thought- DOL should have a list of Vets that will treat first and then work out repayment plans etc so at least in an emergency situtaion we DOLers would not waste valuable time and know who to contact first. What do you think Mods?
  12. The reason you give every day as it only takes One mozzie to bite and infect your dog
  13. Your Vet MUST get these dogs on anti-venom Any Vet worth their salt would treat a snake bite victim first and then sort out the funds side of it later on. GE Credit has a loan scheme to pay for Vet bills. That is why all of our dogs have PetPlan Health Insurance. We are only on pensions but we asked these dogs to come into our lives so it is our responsibilty to look after then. I would hock anything I could if needed $$ for Vet treatment.I also have Private Hospital cover for me too. I would rather live on mince and noodles than rely on the Public System . For two dogs costs us $70 per month and it covers up to $14,000 per year per dog( less $100 excess) and PetPlan has deals with a lot of the Vets for them to be billed directly so that the owner does not have to find the massive $$ Prays going their way.
  14. Yes Natsu Chan, Stand is an easy exercise for them It will be good to have more Collies out there showing that they also have brains as well as beauty
  15. Thanks JulesP I am really pleased with both our Collies progress so far. They get so excited when I get the leads out and say the word "work"( I always used to say that to my other Collies I did obedience with) . I have to shut one inside whilst I work the other in the backyard as otherwise I would be doing "brace" obedience. I am very lucky that they both are food orientated. Our biggest "problem" area is the Drop as they have not done it before but they are slowly getting the idea. As they say" Rome was not built in a day!"
  16. I would be eering of the side of caution and getting this dog checked by a VEt. It could have a bowl obstruction, diarrhoea, anything.
  17. Has your Vet offered to refer you to a Veterinary Dermatologist? Labradors are prone to s skin disorder known as Atopic Dermatitis/Atopy and the only way this can be accurately diagnosed is for intra-dermal skin testing to be done. PM me if you want any further info please.
  18. After several years break from obedience due to the sudden death of my Mum, Dad's failing health and my health issues this week I have started our two Rough Collies back in Obedience and I am loving it and so are they ;) My case manager has re-gigged my Respite Hours so that someone is here to care for my darling Dad whilst we go off for lessons once a fortnight. My avatar girl, Phoebe, had done a bit when she was a pup but her daughter Gracie had done zilch except for Stand in Conformation. They both did really well at their first official lesson amd my Trainer and Mentor was pleased with them too. They both may still do Conformation but with another Handler . Woohoo- back in the field I Love and we may yet even dabble in some herding
  19. Paws and fingers crossed that he recovers well.
  20. Speaking from an experience handler/trialing point of view I personally do not believe in doing more than say 10 minutes of heel work etc in a class situation and then would take the dog back in for group stays Pm me if you like because our family founded Frankston in 1991( haven't trained there for years as a "new crew" moved in) and I would be interested to know what is going on there now that we have moved back into the area.
  21. Yep can second the recommendation for Berwick- very friendly club and lovely instructors who know what they are doing.
  22. it could even be an Apocrine Cyst( cyst of the sweat glands). My avatar girl had one removed from the underside of her tail a few months back. Vet will let you know.
  23. I would not give this medication unless it was prescribed by a qualified Vet dermatologist after intra-dermal skin testing has been done as some breeds are actually allergic to the drug itself.
