Need A Good Acupuncturist
InspectorRex replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have only used the one in South Rd for accupuncture and it gave my old Collie a new lease of life If you are prepared to travel I can highly recommend Dr Kate Haines in Morwell. She has a Masters Degree in Vet Chiropractics, qualifed in Bowen therapy and also accupuncture. It is about 1 hr fron Cranbourne if that helps. She also lectures at the Vet Uni school on these subjects. Look up Latrobe Vet Group in Morwell and Traralgon as she works from both clinics. She is superb. -

List Of Foods Not Irradiated
InspectorRex replied to Azurite's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
having worked for the Fed Govt for 21 yrs I well understand the Privacy Rules -
If he is even throwing water I would be getting him to one of the animal emergency centres now. Dogs can dehydrate very quickly. Does you Vet have an after hours service? Southern Animal Referral and Emergency Centre is open 24/7 and is in highett Ph 9532 5261- give them a ring and at least speak to a Vet and get some advice as tomorrow might be too late if it is anything serious. From what I have heard a few dogs that were at Spring Fair have parvo or parvo like symptons- this has been discussed on another list I am on

No worries. As my friend is the Manager of a Pet Goods Direct store she gave me the ph number of the Importer and I was able to speak to him personally. -

You can also add INNOVA, EVO to this list as I spoke personally with the Importer yesterday and NONE of these or any Natura Products that come from USA are irridated when they reach OZ -
I know California Natural is imported by PP but my Pet Goods Direct only sells goldfish and it is a really good dog food and the one I am feeding, Chicken and Rice, is designed for hypoallergenic dogs and it only has one protein source-chicken- and the only grain source is brown rice. For that reason I will feed it as it is better for my furkids and if that means putting principles aside then I will. I have yet to find an Aussie kibble that 1( my dogs will eat and: 2) doesn't go through them like a dose of Epsom Salts

Just to let other DOLers know I have just spoken first hand to the Importer of all the Natura Products(California Natural, Evo, Innova etc) and he has reassured me that because of the way these foods are made in USA(human conditions) it DOES NOT have to be irridated when it arrives here in Australia as Natura Products have meet all the AQIS guidelines prior to it leaving USA He has even checked this again today for me .I get the Chicken and Rice Dry California Natural from a friend's Pet Goods Direct Store Phew!

Geez we all seem to be having a run of health issues with our furkids at the moment. You need to get the dog to a Vet and get Vet to do a full check up and yes if you can take a Poop sample with you and ask for a faecal float and analysis to be done. The Vet will more than likely give you something like Peptosyl or Scourban and tell you to feed boiled chicken and rice for a few days and Nothing else . May give you electrolytes to out in the dog's water. Here if runny poop has not resolved after 24hrs of Peptosyl and chicken and rice then it is off the the Vets. Dogs cannot tell us what is wrong so we have to do our best to get them Vet treatment when there is a health issue.

Mysterious Dog Death - Help
InspectorRex replied to AngelSoul's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't call it over -servicing.I call it caring for the welfare of said animal BTW Gracie had the mouse in her mouth and when I got it out it was all covered in dog saliva. Normal ACT for a dog os 95 and Gracie's ACT was 175. She would have died had my Vet not conducted tests. The first Vet I rang had an attitude of "she should be okay " -
Dermeze cream- it was designed by the Royal Children's Hospital for children with dry skin. I use it daily on my 85 yo Dad who suffers from dry skin on his feet. Most Chemists stock it and it is not too dear either.

Mysterious Dog Death - Help
InspectorRex replied to AngelSoul's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Quote : The deceased dog was rushed to the vet for an autopsy, along with the sick one for treatment. The vet just observed the sick one, sent him home that afternoon saying he had a tummy bug.He did not send any blood work away or do any tests........even on the other sick dog. To me, that is remiss on the part of the Vet. If a dog dies suddenly for no apparent reason I would be wanting answers and if I have another dog ill I would be wanting blood tests etc. Eg: In April this year our Gracie brought in a dead mouse. Worried that it might have been baited I rang my Vet who sad "bring her in and any other animals you have" Vet did activated clotting tests on Gracie and her mum Phoebe. Phoebe was okay but Gracie was nearly twice the anormal range and put straight on Vit K. That is what I call a Vet- one that thinks outside the immediate danger. Vet could have easily just tested Gracie but Vet cared anough about all our dogs to test them all. -
Mysterious Dog Death - Help
InspectorRex replied to AngelSoul's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
by not carrying out an autopsy on the deceased dog seeing it was a mysterious death and not doing blood tests on the other ill dog. Most Vets I use would suggest an autopsy if a dog died suddenly as this one did and also check the curviving dogs vitals etc via bloods etc -
Mysterious Dog Death - Help
InspectorRex replied to AngelSoul's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would be getting the ill dog back to the Vet( or another preferablt as it sounds like the first Vet mucked up IMHO)) and demanding full blood tests etc and asking for the dog to be placed on a drip and monitored -

Did the Vet do an autopsy on the poor deceased dog? Did the Vet do blood tests on the ill dog? If the ill dog is no better I would be seeking a 2nd opinion asap -

Belgian-blue- have sent you a Pm with the details of where the store is located and who to ask for. -
Good news about the biopsy results but bad news about the rest. Have they checked for things like kidney stones as that can affect urine flow?
